The Guile Video thread

I get DP’d so much while doing his target combo beginning with a jumping roundhouse like you. I don’t live near any arcades so online is pretty much it for me. There are tournaments in ATL every now and then but no one to personally play the game with on a constant basis. I’m glad to know that kind of stuff doesn’t fly offline. The Gief thing really pisses me off…I was thinking he just had incredibly, retarded range.

Sorry for the reiteration but I just wanted to vent a bit. bleh.

I hate online play. It started with GGPO when I played ST. People were always hitting these sick ass reversals like everytime. I figured it was because they were just THAT good at the game. So then I go to Final Round and there were so pretty high ranked East Coast players there. No one at that tournament could pull reversals off that consistently, and these were real top players like NKI, Damdai, and DSP. So I figured it was online bullshit. I still play GGPO ST, but just for fun or to kill time. SFIV is even worse, it took me 2 hours of frustration to swear off online SFIV for good

uh, there are like tournaments every week in Atlanta. There are weekly Waba tournaments. Atlanta Revival is held pretty much every month as well. There are also just random organizers who start tournaments. There is usually a good turnout. There are at least 2 montly tournaments in Atlanta, 1 weekly, and one tri monthly tournament (more like a major Atlanta tournament quarterly). Atlanta has a pretty strong tournament scene. No need to play online in ATL if you don’t have to.

Oh cool, I went to 1 WABA tournament the other month but I didn’t know they had them every week. I’m about to graduate from school and should be able to make it out to those more often.

On the reals, this is really bothering me. I had shunned online play for a very long time, only playing with someone who lives just a little ways away from me online or just going over and playing face to face (preferably face to face)…

Tried playing tonight, and it was just… jaw-dropping. Once I finally realized I need to hit buttons about 2 seconds before I normally would, I was able to beat some Sagat’s face in for one round, but I couldn’t keep my anti-airs up for long with the slow-mo…had a honda on reaction super my c.mp. The game slowed down as I crouched and punched to the point that he was able to input his super and have it hit me before my arm retracted…

Not bothering with that shit again >.>…

I honestly don’t have that many problems when I play online. I don’t even bother trying to find five or even four bars only when I look for matches. I don’t have much of a preference seeing as how the connection bars are broken as fuck. I mostly just look around for 3 and 2 bar players. If 1-bar players are all that are available, then they certainly are welcome. Sometimes the connection bar is accurate, and I do regret accepting the 1-bar player, but most of the time it really doesn’t matter. I really really can’t understand where all these complaints are coming from. Online play isn’t perfect, no where close really, but I just want to stress that online play for me is NOT as bad as you guys describe it. If you guys are having that many problems, and I’m not, ummm…what gives?

To quote yourself: “Online play isn’t perfect, no where close really” That’s what gives.

I was going to say more, but no. That’s basically it.

Online play is frustrating. The thing that bothers me the most is not being to change from blocking high to low and vice versa within a reasonable amount of time. A lot of players neutral jump and then walk up throw on block. Its frustrating to see your character stand, but then not block the jump kick and when you can see the throw coming, you still get thrown.

That’s pretty depressing honestly. I thought that some things were just meant to happen like the EXACT technique you described and i just get hit out of it like nothing.

Lol, no wonder capcom is so confused, they must see a video of something happening like that and be like “:wow:Wtf…REALLY???”

Wow, so online is really that shitty huh? See I’ve never been able to play offline that much(aside from a few matches with my bros here or there, they don#t really play it that much tbh) - there’s not much of an arcade or sf4 community in my city so online is where I spend most of my game time.

I really didn’t know how bad online was. No frame of reference you see. So now when I get hit by a reversal Dp or grabbed by gief I can safely say shenanigans on it all (online anyway).

Thanks for the tip aeroplane. Gonna start practicing that just so I can get it into muscle memory.

Please post these wtf moments for the lulz

After a month I finally won my 1st G1 and had plenty of wtf moments.

Be good to see some others.

k, thanks for ignoring my point. “isn’t perfect” =/= the shitpile you guys are describing.

This guy just uploaded a bunch of a Guile player (France Jin) beating several people in a tournament before getting gayed by Blanka.

Good to see Furansujin representing before running afoul of Blanka’s ultra. It never occurred to me to juggle with an ex boom after having Blanka land on a jab boom out of an EX roll before.

Excellent Guile. His reactions are really good. Jab SB to EX SB against Blanka’s always makes me giggle. It’s one of my favorite things to do to Blanka.

When you press punch, and there’s a good… second or so delay on it coming out, or not being able to stand and block a jump-in or crossup because the game doesn’t recognize your input for a few seconds, is equivalent to a giant shitpile.

Online play encourages jump-ins and other bad tactics because despite trying to the game won’t react fast enough for you to counter them. If you can sit there and deal with 1-3 bar connections and have no problem with them, I have to assume that you don’t experience much offline play; even with 2 computers -right- next to each other, there is significant, noticeable lag in the game.

Offline play is much, much faster and far more precise.

I did address your point. If it’s not perfect, it’s a shitpile, and that’s why we describe it as such.

I noticed he occasionally would dash up and fierce punch someone point blank; what is he looking for here? Counter-hit FP combo or…?

Yoshio has been doing this for a long time, usually after some throw attempts. I’m assuming he’s looking for a whiff throw tech attempt which then gets punished by the s.hp, and if he can score a counterhit then its even better.

I like the use of his backfist.

I’m surprised I don’t see more Blanka’s attempting the wake up ambiguous crossup ultra. Its hard to block, does a ton of chip and it was also the first time where I’ve seen it go away from the player after all that chip damage as oppose to into the player where it could easily be punished on block. It seems if you can make it go to the other side of the screen, its low risk high reward for blanka.

Is there anything one can do to evade the ambiguous crossup ultra on wakeup? Back dash? Or is it another guessing game for Guile?

You can input a reversal ultra, but your ultra will wiff and also make blanka’s ultra wiff. Blanka will recover before Guile and can punish with a combo. I guess Blanka’s punish combo will do less damage than eating the ultra. Just more evidence to show how bad Guile’s ultra is.

Yoshiwo is very solid against the good sagat players. Whenever I see “NO NAME”, Matsu and other Japanese Guiles play they have lost a number of matches against Sagat.

I can’t really say who the best Japanese Guile is, but I think the ones I have seen are good but each play slightly differently
