Nope.
That Akuma match… grr…
NC live stream is up! Guile player present.
Here is one of my matches from a local tournament yesterday. I made a shitload of execution errors, luckily for me so did he. I pretty much had this match one, until the game paused, and I was guilty of it. Not sure how it paused, but some people there said PS3 controllers can come unplugged and they pause. Out of the rules I had to give up a round. I didn’t do too good at this tournament, but at least the crowd was thoroughly entertained by my Guile.

Oh yeah, and criticism are welcome. I can take it.
You looked like you tried to AA with FK at ranges that it clearly wouldn’t work.
Mmm…not enough down/back.
FK? I didn’t attempt too many flashkicks, I’m pretty sure of that. There are some situations where I jump up and whiff a random kick, but those aren’t flashkick attempts at all. I was playing on pad, and when I tried to do a neutral jump I kept accidently hitting the kick buttons. I usually don’ attempt very many flashkicks unless they are jumping in from a certain range or against certain characters. I FK boxer and E.Honda pretty often. I rarely attempt them against shotos just because of their jump-in angels.
In that case (aye, you only attempted it twice), you missed a ton of c.fp anti-airs. You also threw a few (like 2) very unsafe FK’s at random.
You were wicked on point with air throws.
im watching to video now. and ill give any insight i can. hope it helps
round 1.
i see that you are missing your AA. c.fierce s.fierce s.forward in a lot of those situations that came up pretty often, you let forte get too many free jump ins.
also, he did a lot of c.round house against you even when you were already down/back… flash kick those and make him think twice! you should start trying to make him think twice about all his tools from the get go !
round 2
round went pretty quick only things i really noticed was when you threw him away from the wall the first time and a missed punished attempt… cr. strong fadc for some reason. oh wake up ultra ftw.
round 3
this round you missed a few random tatsu punishes (2?) and missed a flash kick punish when he was in the corner doing a Focus attack.
round 4
got a few good hits in this round and lost to a hado coming at you on wake up. when you’re pretty sure this is going to happen… which usually does and its that close of a hado ex flash kick that on wake up, which would have given you a chance for the win.
round 5… iuno what happened here. all i saw was an ultra and it went to a time out!? iuno.
round 6
i see more unsafe jump-ins against a ryu with an ultra and two meters.
sorry for the long post… but im away from home and i can do is sit around on srk wishing i had SF4 here… haahah
Yeah my execution was really shot in some places in the match. I noticed in one round when he crossed me up with the tatsu, I was trying to flashkick him and got a neutral jump kick. Bare with me, I’ve been busy with work so I haven’t been playing, so my execution was bad.
As far as the round 5 controversy is concerned, some how my controller became desynched and the game paused. I was officially held responsible for pausing the game mid match. It was in a really good position to get that final hit in, and it paused. Anyway, they asked my opponent what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to take the round. In the last round he slowed down the aggression quite a bit.
Also those jump-ins weren’t unsafe as far as I know. From the distance he threw the fireball, he didn’t have time to DP the jump-in. But I don’t know, maybe they were. I just always assumed I would get a safe jump-in from that distance. Thanks for the input.
It’s funny to read this sort of question because just in my little area of Tokyo alone there was about a dozen arcades, so to think about running into one specific SF player randomly in the whole country is mind boggling… I think there’s a big size misconception about Japan on this board. =) Not a shot at Opinionhaver at all, just something funny that I noticed.
yeah, but he did DP and didnt ultra after the trade.
Yeah, you’re right. Anyway, thanks for all of the input. Ryu is a very odd matchup for me because he can be played with so many styles. I am familiar with Forte, but he normally use Chun-Li. He’s very aggressive. When he went and picked Ryu, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I’ve become accustomed to fighting more safe zoning Ryu’s and no one as aggressive as he was with Ryu. Perhaps one of the most aggressive Ryu’s I’ve played in SFIV. Oh and I didn’t know I could FK punish a blocked shoto sweep. I’ll definitely remember that next time.
Forte does not know the match up.
Brahn,
Getting a lead in this match up can be very difficult against ryu’s that know to NOT jump at guile. But if you get a lead do your best to run away / zone the rest of the match.
A problem that you have, that I also have is walking backwards to much. Try to hold your ground more when zoning. If you back up while he’s jumping towards you can put you in that situation where you’re forced to block j.hk
Dear Ryu’s everywhere:
Ryu vs Guile: Do not jump in if you do not have to, especially with lead… low forward, hadouken, srk/c.fierce… with these few tools guile cannot close on you, and he cannot touch ryu in a fireball war. He can only match and jump over hadoukens, if you have lead this wont bring him anywhere. Jumping in is only really worth it after a clean knockdown.
There’s no misconception on my part, sir; truth told, I was just fishing for a story.
Yoshiwo VS Camo (Viper)

What a comeback from Yoshiwo in round 2. He was gone for all money and still won.
Stolen from Coldviper on the Gen forum. Solid if unspectacular Guile may give new players some ideas for the Gen matchup.

I was actually pretty displeased with that Guile, if you saw my post on the Gen forums following that. He threw grounded un-combo’d random EX flash kicks, several sweeps, and excessive use of tick throws.
Had that Gen just not been so antsy to go ape-shit on him and waited out the random flash kicks, that would have been all over much, much faster.
The FKs were not random; he trained him to tech the throw after crossup, then switched it up. Not saying it was his best option, but there was some psychology going on.
Umm…I’m just going to throw a random battle here.
