In this vid, I give you my personal thumbs up:rock:. i wouldnt say you are a noob, dont sell yourself short!! it looked like you definitely knew what you were doing, and kept a cool head under Abel’s block strings and cancels. I would say you knew the match up pretty well…
Thanks for the thumbs up ! And if there is anything that I could’ve done to improve on versus this matchup, please let me know, as I’m open to any suggestions and advice. :lovin:
You played the matchup very well; all I can say is to be careful about too many sweeps, especially when Abel has an Ultra ready. That’s a FA->Thanks For Coming most of the time. Even on block, it’s possible for him to pull it off after the first hit. 9 times out of 10, the second hit will knock him out of it, but that 10th time, if the spacing and timing are just right…
Also, if you can trick Abel into jumping over a boom and you’re in position, an airthrow is never a bad thing. @ :10 and :59 of Round 1 in the 5th set for example. (Countering the Soulless with Explosion kicked ass, BTW!)
Was standing there right behind you when you beat ed ma. Shit was awesome and motivates me more. I also noticed his impatience, but a win with guile is a win. Good shit man, nice seeing you, and I hope to see you around soon. (nohomo.)
My armchair SF skillz says you might want to try backdashing after blocking ablel’s f+mk sometimes. It will make his command throw wiff and you can punish with s.fierce > s.fierce. Also work on the jab jab jab jab fierce combo. You missed it a few times. I find this combo really helpful in the abel matchup. It just seems to punish really well and abel’s like to do something immediately after that fierce, like jump, roll, wheel kick, etc. So I’m always looking to counter right after that s.fierce in that combo.
Ooo, Thanks for the suggestion on the backdash after his f+mk, I’ve never thought of that ! I felt very uncomfortable fighting Ramin’s Abel because he knew how to space, unlike most other Abel player’s I’ve fought…online lol. Considering that I have fought Ramin on the 2nd round of the tournament and sending him to losers, he was ready with a game plan when he came back up to Grand Finals…It was rough, we both had to adjust quite a bit during the match… As for 2nd round of the tournament , he almost sent me to losers…he had 3 straight rounds against me, giving him the match point and I just came back and took both sets without having any memory of what had happened …it was too intense !
As for the one frame links…I feel that it is impossible to master it, but I’ll continue to work on it to increase my success rate in pulling it off. Even though I missed the combo, it’s still a better option to create some distance against Abel whether I landed the combo or not. :wgrin: His close up games are just too much !
I agree, jab is godlike against abel (universally). I mash jab and confirm it into fierce pretty frequently in this match up.
Thanks man, I’m glad you saw my match. I will definitely try to make it out to some SD tournaments. Good seeing you too. And good seeing you Gilley, your match with tatsu was damn close. He’s tough…
Good shit to all of the Guile players lately. Seems like this has been the month from Guile. Dieminion getting 2nd at an Arcadia tournament, Warhk taking out Edma, and Lamerboi winning a tournament. Warms my heart to see people really getting great results with Guile. Now I must stop losing at my own local tournaments and take one home for our soldier. Good job.
At the end of the Chun-Li match, that was the first ambiguous cross up I’ve ever seen from Guile. Chun was in the corner and the Guile did a j.lk which really looked like it was going to cross up, but I think cause of the properties of the corner, I THINK it hit in front instead. That’s hella smart, I never would’ve thought of that. Need to go to lab for that one and run some tests.
Yeah jlk is ambigousin corner…still any linking combo after it hits does horrible damage as always
J.lk to blah blah blah to flash kick does decent damage. Only problem is it takes really good execution to pull it off (which I have on some days, and don’t on most days).
yeah a j.lk into cr. lk blah blah flash kick does what? mid 200s? that isnt bad
Against most characters cross up j.lk, c.lk, c.lp, c.mp xx fk (any) does 175, which is very shitty. This is because against none fatties the combo pushes your opponent to the 70 dmg flash kick range.
EDIT: also this is a 1 frame link combo, and when you miss it you can be punished by pretty much anything. I use this combo pretty frequently anyway though.
I was comparing the damage to Balrog’s jab, jab, short, headbutt, which does around 190 (I think) and people consider that to be pretty good damage. Though when you factor in the difficulty of both of those combos, obviously Guile’s at a big disadvantage since that 1 frame link is tough.
A combo I’ve been working on is c.lk, s.lp, close s.mp, sonic boom, which does 160 damage (I think). It’s an ok block string, and the s.lp to s.mp is only a 2 frame link (lol, like that’s easy).
(I’m still new to reading frame data so the number of frames for that link might be wrong, but I know that combo works because I’ve used it)
rog’s headbutt does 160 regardless of how far his opponent is from him (before scaling), guiles flash kick does 70 before scaling if the opponent is far away. This, coupled with the fact that rog’s c.jab goes hella far, is why rogs bnb is superior even when execution differences are ignored.
I get this weird feeling that capcom intended the d.f.rh > ex.fk to be like, a super badass anti-air, but failed miserably at it’s implementation… I mean that does what like 190 dmg? If that kick could actually connect it wouldn’t be terrible. (caveats obviously being why not just deep ex.fk)
Bit irrelevant though, probably belongs in the moveset and attributes thread.
lol so true hahaha
am i doing the combo wrong?!
j .lk cr. lk cr lpx2 flash kick does like 200. (5hits)
even if i take out the j. lk it does like 19x
iuno.
cries about guile’s one frame links I eat shoryus all day doing it!!!:shake:
