I was in G1 a few months back but I stopped because it was hard to find a game plus work has been pretty busy. I only get to play a few hours a week but I’ve noticed quite a few Guiles in G1 now, more than any other non top tier character.
Thanks for the tips. I need to break my habit of close wake up booms. I haven’t eaten a wake up ultra in a while but I still get SRK’ed (or in this case ex back handed) more than I should. I’m also trying to mix up my patterns more often as boom predictability against Gief leads to a ex green hand knockdown which inevitably to cross up shenanigans.
I usually use b.hk more too because I hate how the turn punch whiffs on ducking ops but I’m trying to incorporate both in my game. The turn punch is great for jump happy ops and I’m trying to get the spacing down to use it as a far AA. I like to use the double turn punish against shotos, I find after they get hit by one, they either try to jump away or fireball, both of which get stuffed by it.
Hey man, saw a couple of the videos. Glad to see a pretty solid Guile. I don’t have too much too say other than a few tips:
-
Yeah, you used cr.hk a lot. It’s cool though cause at least you know this problem.
-
The Ryu threw a lot of whiffed cr.forwards that you probably could’ve sweeped while he was recovering (or at least counter poked with cr.forward). I’m not saying I got the best footsies in the world, but you could use some practice on that. Like at 1:21 in this video:

Maybe you should try and conserve meter more? You never seemed to have more than one or two bars. This is more of a style thing, but keeping more meter saved can really help you in tough spots.
-
Whoa, I just saw when you jumped in 3 times in a row and got SRK’ed each time. You’re lucky that guy’s execution was horrible that day. At least try and back up, then empty jump in so that even if he does SRK, it’ll whiff.

Stop using the step hard kick so much and start using the backhand more. I know that the step hard kick is good cause it hits them when they’re crouching and you keep your charge, but you missed like 6 hadouken punishes cause you used step hard kick instead of the backhand, which starts way faster than the step hard kick.
-
More throws/throw attempts would be nice. Again, this is a style thing though.
-
You should try whiffing jabs to bait your opponent into jumping/bait him into hadouken’ing so you get a jump in.
-
Last thing, work on AA’ing with standing mk/st.hp, short FK, and EX FK. There was one time you tried to anti-air with cr.hp and it totally whiffed, where a st.mk or st.hp would’ve hit your opponent and another time where you either fk’ed too late or used a FK that was too strong and it got beat out (it’s either short FK or EX FK. That’s it).
I know, sounds like a lot but believe that a lot of other Guile players have pages and pages of shit to work on. You’re pretty solid, just need to work on some things like we all do. You’re a little crazy though. I can’t believe you cr.hk’ed at the end of that round when both of you didn’t have health.

There at the end of the 4th round were a lot of empty jump ins that, had you stuck out a kick or punch, you would have won! Were you waiting for a more stylish finish?
nice, solid stuff in the 1st round. loved the sb>super>ultra you whipped out in 2nd round i believe
have we ever ran into each other on live before? i play championship mode mainly
yea im pretty sure we have run into each other our in g1 right? and yea i wanted a nice finish lol

I’m pretty sure I’ve run into you both as well =)

i believe you were the one that shut me out 1 - 10 games? haha i was playing like an idiot and kept jumping into c.hp’s

Blitz, this is the link to the Rufus match again!
Sorry, I was trying to strike the match from my memory, you’ll understand once you see the match
The linked is now fixed in my post.
Now I see.
Regardless, I think I speak for everyone when I say I appreciate you, Gilley, Branh, and everyone else finding and posting these matches. Even from losing efforts, I take a lot away from these Japanese Guiles.
Some nice vids here. From some I learned something
yeah i know:smile:, i should have placed the camera further away from the joystick.
In my match against Ryu, i noted that when the backfist whiffed, Ryu’s attempted cross up at the start of the match missed, which resulted in me throwing him
not sure if whiffing a backfist can make opponents miss cross ups consistently though (on non wake up)
It can - Guile’s sprite gets pushed forward in a very weird way, but the timing is strange.
I know Japan is supposed to be God-like and everything, but am I the only one who thinks that the Guile in that match kind of sucked?
Looks like the Guile is playing Ryu and vice versa.
