Mm… I’m glad you know how to do the Ultra, but try not to use it so often - especially after something like a cr.hk (in which case something else you shouldn’t be doing so often either) or on wake up. 95% of the time they’re going to be blocked. 100% of that 95% you’re going to be punished.
The Balrog player wasn’t very good for starters, but somehow he won. In either case, I can tell you few things you’re doing wrong with Guile.
For one, you should never ever jump at Boxer for one. Although this boxer didn’t really punish you for you jump ins, in general it’s not good practice.
You walk back and throw sonic booms. Guile relies on controlling space. If you aren’t familiar with charge buffering, you can always hit downback after you throw sonic booms. In either case, the match seemed laggy, so this may have thrown your timing off slightly.
b.fierce is a really good poke against boxer, and it stuffs like most of his pursuits. You didn't throw this out often enough, if at all.
There is no reason to EVER use d.RK against Boxer. All of his ground pokes beat it, even the dreadful d.jab. Just don't do it.
Though you can focus Balrog's dash punches, this isn't always great. His dash punches are fast, and there are at least two that armor break.
Learn to throw moc sonic booms. This makes life hell for boxer, and also learn to vary the speed, and bazooka knee if he get's knocked down. This way you can start to close off his space.
Don't do any blind j.fierces, you did it a lot. It's a decent air to air if done late. You were doing it for no reason, and it's unsafe for the most part.
Overall, I do see you trying to implement mindgames here and there, but you seem incredibly antsy and impatient. Unfortuantely Guile and Balrog are two turtle characters, and their matches can be long. If Balrog get’s too impatient Guile eats him up, and vice versa. Generally you want to annoy him with sonic booms, and make him impatient to want to get in.
Your Guile needs work in the following
*zoning
*baiting
*anti-airing
*ground pokes
*not jumping
This is just my evaluation, though I would be interested in seeing you play against some other characters.
Can’t watch the video, but I definately beg to differ on this. FA’ing is extremely useful in this matchup. While his dash punches are fast, it is still more than easy to hit him with an extremely worthwhile crumple. Of his dashes, the two that break armor are the slow overhead (easy to recognize because of how slow it is and either backdash or release early for a counter-hit), the semi-unsafe turn punch, and the dash smash (the one that angles upwards). His others like the dash strait, rush upper, and dash low are very easy to hit with a lvl 2 FA.
This seems like it wouldn’t work in your favor. Your 3 for 3 on armor breakers. When it comes down to it though, the main dash punches that 'rog uses for offence are the ones that don’t break armor. As long as you use FA very rarely, you can really make it count. By using it rarely, you make 'rog use his other dash punches. Which are punishable on block.
His overhead and dash smash are, at best -5 on block. Punish with s.hp or c.mp xx flashkick.
His turn punch can range from being -2 to -34 (lol) depending how long he has it charged up. It’s pretty safe to just block it and keep blocking or throw out a c.lk.
Re. FA: agreed; I whore FA against Boxer looking for c.hk or rp.
Good advice!
As a boxer player I can agree that FA is boxer’s worst nightmare. It eliminates his ability to do chip damage and apply safe pressure. But spam it too much and boxer will start to spam turn punch.
And as a guile player, I advise to flash kick, on reaction, any dash punch you can. Because flash kick is Guile’s focus breaker, it will even beat out boxer’s ex dashes. And if boxer spams TAP, slow boom is hard to TAP around.
This is the essence of the Guile/Boxer matchup to me. Knowing when to keep db.charge, when to FA, and when to neutral jump/bait.
booo to random ultras and i also noticed you didnt take advantage of dealing some nice damage. when he left BIG openings…
i see you just plan cr. rh kick or just going straight to flash kick…
a cr. mp to hk flash or ex does nice damage and if you can standing fierce to flash kick is a wonderful punish.
you have to learn to deal the damage when it presents itself.
also, bait those ex rush punches with timed jab booms into throw or get that FA ready. he absorbs an attack then eats a combo its a game changer for sure. also EX booms eat rog alive and should be used wisely other then that, everyone else mentioned your faults.

Yeah, i don’t know how to watch nico video stuff anymore. Do you have to register?
yeah, i got mad and just registered. now it works like a charm. just google nico video register guide.
Thanks!
yeah, np warahk
That cr.mp to throw gimmick in the Ken video is sick. You could even train them to tech the throw, then backdash sweep instead or block the SRK that you know a shoto will try and mash out.
Oh man, that was so smart. In the Honda match, the Guile player was in the corner and he FADC’ed forward after a FK hit (18:46). I usually just backdash because of how unsafe dashing forward is after a FK (Slinkun wrote a long post one day that just discouraged me from ever doing it). However, I only thought of how unsafe it would be to dash forward if the FK was blocked, but what if it hit? Because he FADC’ed forward after the FK hit, he was able to dash under Honda and out of the corner, resetting the match.
That Sagat match is so painful to watch (for me at least). The 2nd round was just a GRIND. I’ve been in those situations a couple times (where you’re just matching FB for FB and trying to get a poke here and there for 50 seconds) and it really wears you down mentally.
Holy shit, that reset that the Abel did at the end of the first round was crazy.
i just tried this but instead of japanese text i get these squares with numbers in them instead. how do i get rid of those? thanx in advance
can you normally see japanese texts? could be your computer or browser. might need to install random language files from microsoft could be anything lol.
That c.mp to throw is a very nice throw mix up, you can also do c.mp walk forward and do an overhead.
That Sagat and Abel match was sad to watch as it hit a little too close to home. I felt against Abel he should have followed up more booms with s.hp or turn punch as it seemed that Abel was just walking forward soaking some hits just trying to get in.
Hi, new Guile here…
I’ve uploaded some video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/dirtynoob
I was out of the fighting scene on consoles/fighting games from 12 years, and as i said, i’ve bought the game two months ago, so, if you have any tips on how i could improve my play style… i’m here
For starters, stop spamming the C HK it is highly punishable against stronger opponents. another thing is stop jumping in blindly. You were lucky not to get punished with DP’s and other anti airs
This Ken player is clearly not that good or as good as the one that i have played against at least.
I think that you still have some work to do as Guile is not the character you will master overnight. Look at how Fuson and Dagger_G and Yoshiwo utilise Guiles tools…these guys set a pretty good example on how he should be used
Ya, while it’s generally a bad idea I’d be lying if I said I never do it. Hell, the only existing video of my guile on youtube has the FK xx FADC forward > throw as a match ender. Only got it because gief missed his SPD.
