Aye, almost every attempt I make at crossup lk’s gets me a shoryuken in the crotch. I spent like an hour practicing j. lk > c. mp xx flashkick timing to make sure the c. mp would link, which immediately felt like a waste right around the 6th or 7th time I got shoryuken’d in the crotch for attempting it in virtually any circumstance where it might be advantageous.
I’m not very good however, so it’s entirely possible that that’s all on me.
The cu.lk would be fine as it is if Guile’s mk (for example) crossed-up. I started seeing folk dp my cross-ups a few weeks ago and nearly cried a river - unless it’s as deep as all hell or they’re crouching, it’s worthless. Grrr…
EDIT: It’s still very useful in a mirror match - which makes me rage all the way to Rageville.
The Guile army came out for this one, never seen so many Guiles. 9 Guiles came out including Yoshio but could only pull off 2 wins against non Guile opponents, including 1 from Yoshio.
19:00 vs Boxer
0:15 vs Guile (watch 1:36)
9:30 vs Guile (never seen two Guile’s mirror matches in a TRF before)
12:40 vs Boxer
15:15 vs Gief
18:40 vs Honda
24:03 vs Gief
0:05 vs Sagat
18:00 Yoshio vs Ken (Yoshio’s BP is half of what it use to be)
25:00 Yoshio vs Akimo’s Honda (Another typical Yoshio match of late, controls most of the match, looks like a win and then loses it at the very end, although Akimo had 2 clutch finishes, especially in round 1).
I think this is a casual since the finals were already played and this Guile was eliminated earlier:
20:40 vs Ryu (they play two sets)
Bunch of guile here. He does really well in this tourney although he needs to work on his c.jab > c.jab > s.jab > s.fierce link . The japanese characters for guile is ???, not to be confused with Abel ???. It’s in the parenthesis.
I don’t know if it’s cause I’m trying to work on zoning and spacing more now, but the Guile in those video does a great job of staying about mid-screen in that perfect sweet spot where a matched SB equals a free backhand or if they jump in, the cr. fierce always wins.
That’s something I personally need to work on because I always tend to let my opponent get about 3/4 to a full screen away and have a hard time keeping consistently mid screen away.
I very much enjoyed the first guile v. sagat match in the first video. You can totally see the adaptation over the three rounds, how momentum completely shifts, and how guile’s patience affects the sagat player mentally.
Rnd 1: sagat keeps up crazy pressure with lk > lk. tk (w/ one hit, safe on block). guile seems completely overwhelmed (i can def. relate to this particular scenario…).
Rnd 2: guile tightens up his d, gets a few counter hits… sagat player starts second-guessing himself.
Rnd 3: solid reversal (no counters) in between sagat lk > tk link. sagat becoming desparate… continues to feed momentum to guile ftw.
