I don’t want to hate, but Geom’s Guile doesn’t look like a very practical one to me. Sure it’s great to see all of this fancy pressure, but I don’t think it will slide against anyone half way compotent. Geom comp isn’t that good. Even local guys here in my area would never get hit by half the shit Geom is doing. There was one match where he rushed down Blanka. No half way compotent Blanka is going to be rushed by a Guile player. It’s not even possible. That’s like 3s Chun-Li being rushed down by Hugo.
Seriously, Fuson is good, but not everyone can be Fuson. I think if you really want to watch videos and have a solid Guile game, then I would suggest watching Yoshio and Dagger G. They play against REALLY good people, and their styles are quite accessible. Fuson is a great Guile player, but he may be too good, because he can incorporate a lot of stuff that doesn't look like it should work in his game.
I compare Fuson to Maruken in Guilty Gear. Maruken was a Baiken player who did a lot of really technical shit that most people in the world couldn't do consistently. Fuson, like Maruken is just a God of execution. But if you aren't some freak of nature, then Dagger G and Yoshio are definitely better better points of reference
Unfortunately for the masses, (im speaking for myself here) most do not possesss the level of skill that that the aforementioned players have. They are where they are for a reason.
wether it was countless hours of practice or god-given talent, i could say not everyone is able to invest that ammount of time to be of that level.
Sigh, casual for life, and then figure out why the bills arent paid on time.
Its just nice to see some middle ground from the casual lvl of gameplay and high-level technicalities.
I don’t think Fuson is the god of execution, he will occasionally do the lp x ? > s.hp but I think his greatness comes from his mindgames. He doesn’t play Guile like 99% of the Guiles out there and his mix ups is what wins him games. I don’t ever recall him going c.mp -> sb -> super -> ultra because he doesn’t need to. He locks you down in the corner and puts pressure on you every where else.
I enjoy watching Yoshio because you know his level of competition is top notch and its always interesting to see how Guile stacks up against the best in Japan. His style is what you would consider a ‘normal’ Guile. His zoning game is top notch and his understanding of match ups make for a very hard Guile to break down.
Dagger G on the other hand is a Guile like I’ve never seen. He does do some of the more difficult combos and uses moves that nobody else uses, like standing mp with great effectiveness. Dagger G has the most flash and I feel is definitely the most crowd pleasing Guile, if there is such a thing. I just wish he was out in so cal or in japan so he would get a bit more exposure. I would like to see how he stacks up against some of the more well known players (it looks like he’s upped his game since Cali Regionals).
Does anyone know who’s gonna represent Guile at Evo this year?
You have to consider who the opponent is. Fuson does it against some of the best players in so cal under tournament conditions. I don’t think he’s ever posted himself against random people on XBL or PSN. I would be willing to wager it would turn into a combo exhibition against most of the players online.
If you are basing it purely on those videos, I think Gilley has the most aggressive Guile. Absolutely unstoppable.
Joking aside, Isy9983 has a very nice Guile but he got free jumpins all day long against that Gouken.
Fuson shits all over that guile, sorry. As for repping guile at evo, Dagger G, unless he isnt going for some reason. To my knowledge Fuson will not be at evo.
Ugh, I’m so sick of hearing all of this “FADC normals into throw” nonsense. I’m not just going to ramble with subjectiveness, look at the facts.
Guile’s forward dash is 19 frames to execute. (I got this from Wongerhere in the movelist thread)
Far s.hp, c.hk, and close s.hp give 17 frames of block stun and 21 frames of hit stun. C.mp only gives 13/16 frames of block/hit stun respectively.
Throws execute in 3 frames.
This means that a perfectly executed s.hp > FADC forward puts you at -2 on block and +2 on hit. Let’s assume you are fighting a turtle ryu for a moment. You have him cornered and want to go for s.hp > FADC > throw.
Panic shoryu FADC beats your throw.
Reversal timed c.lp beats your throw.
Backdash beats your throw.
Throw mash techs your throw.
Ok, let’s say you, instead try s.hp > FADC > c.lk > combo. This is even worse than throw since c.lk has a 4 frame startup. Ryu’s options…
Panic shoryu beats your c.lk.
Reversal timed c.lp will more than likely land a counterhit your c.lk.
A backdash will get him air reset in the corner, but your c.lk will whiff midscreen.
A throw will beat your c.lk.
All these instances of people pulling this off is just a good example of people who don’t know any better or flub up punishment, which granted, is part of the game but not something you should rely on. If you try to do these things in Japan, get ready to eat some damage. I’ve never actually looked at the frame data behind it until this moment but when I play the locals over here and I try stuff like that, I don’t get good results… even when I FADC a flashkick forward my options are pretty limited.
Short version: stick to using your meter for supers, EX’s, or safe flashkicks. It’s not worth 2 bars just to put yourself at -2.
i agree that fadc’ing into throw attempts are asking for trouble in offline play. I abused this in online play and was told last night they’re lag tactics. I agree now that I see how they get stuffed.
Yeah only if you’re dumb enough to use s.hp fadc into grab every chance you get.
If you use it sparingly and mix up your block strings then I can see this working.
Seriously, watching online matches where some half way decent Guile is doing impractical shit and killing random XBL and PSN scrubs isn’t the best place to go if you want to see quality Guile play. Slinkun said exactly what I was thinking. Anyone who mashes shoryus or any other wakeup option will stop that normal FADC bullshit dead in it’s tracks. And Geom and that Isys guy is way too jumpy. That shit does not fly well at all against quality offline matches. I’m so glad that I don’t have an XBOX 360 or PS3 at the moment. Because I would be playing online, feeling myself, and getting fucked up offline for trying a lot of stupid shit that’s only valid online. And yeah, those Guile’s are far too jumpy. I know about aggressive Guile’s and all, and the way the play aggressive Guile is borderline suicide.
so is that the sound of p/k-linking? i dont have the game and cant practice as much as i want. when i do try it, i am not sure if i am doing it correctly. lol
