Cr.hp works great actually, but especially when fleeing. If you start jumping back and they start following then just move forward a tad and punish. This keeps people from chasing me down

Guile’s anti-air tools are his cr. HP (for deep jump-ins), st. MP (for shallower ones), and his j.HP (for air to airs). You’ll actually not find yourself using Flash Kicks that often to anti-air with Guile, given how dependent he is on footsies in this game.

If you have a great read on their jumps, always go for air-to-airs with j. HP, as you can often follow up with cr. MP xx Flash Kick for big damage.

Testing out Guile, and I’m trying to figure out which gem set-up I should use. Currently, I’m running 1 power gem (connect with x number of special moves) and 2 defense gems (get hit a lot). However, I’ve been considering running meter gems to build meter fast for either tag combos off of flash kicks/anti-airs, or anti-air sonic hurricanes.

What do you all think? He’s currently partnered with Heihachi, and I don’t really use meter with Heihachi other than for the occasional team super to confirm the kill, or tag cancels.

So, I have gotten to Guile in my online series “In the Lab,” where I go through the entire cast of a fighting game and practice with them for a week before going online. I upload one episode on what I’ve found with the character, and then another episode that has some online matches of me using that character.

I really hope they give him 1000 HP instead of 950. There’s no reason he should’ve less health than Ryu/Ken/etc.

cr. LP - Frames increased by 3 (+5F on hit / +1F on block)

Reverse Spin Kick - 6F~29F is throw invincible
Flash Kick - Block stun reduced by 10F

  • Push back on block reduced

It’s bad, but it’s not as bad as it looks.

I love the reverse spin kick buff. I HATED it so much whenever I got grabbed out of it. now it’s actually somewhat viable against certain characters.
I hate his c.lp nerf the most really, followed by the hp nerf.

capcom must hate guile these nurfs are just dumb they should of just left guile as is :frowning:

It’s certainly making me switch away from Guile. But I don’t think he’s ruined as a character. I think he’ll be a decent mid-tier character, and he’ll still be able to do things no one else can in terms of zoning, footsies and just powerful normals. Really, the only strict nerf is to his health. His other nerfs just make his BnB ridiculously hard (cr. LK, cr. LP, st. HP now involves 2 one-frame links), but they’re still possible. You can still tag-cancel DP, it’s just even less safe, but it was already unsafe in 2012.

I think that because his damage output has gone down for everyone except execution masters, and because his health has gone down, he won’t be able to compete at the highest level any more. But if you’re a semi-casual player, or if you really like Guile, or if your team just needs a “stay the fuck away” character, he’s still usable.

Just not for me :D.

So I haven’t had a chance to play 2013, how is everyone finding Guile so far? Any stealth buffs/nerfs?

I was a Guile main since day 1 - No stealth nerfs or buffs so far, but I was wrong about one of the main things I thought made him worse in 2013: His main crossup BnB is still there, you just have to do cr. LK, st. LP, st. HP instead of cr. LK, cr. LP, st. HP. This was the main way Guile went into cross rush off jump-ins in 2012, and although nerfs hit his cr. LK and cr. LP, they didn’t touch his st. LP. So that’s still viable.

Overall, he’s exactly the same but with 50 less life. His DP tag cancel is less safe now, but it was already unsafe in 2012. You WILL get punished if you guess wrong. Also he can’t alpha counter by mashing, which is probably a good thing in the scheme of things.

Given that a lot of the top tier cast has been nerfed, and the overall system nerfs to cross rushes, I think Guile is probably still solid and viable, but not top tier any more.

I thought his cr.lp felt off. Wasn’t sure if it was because I was rusty or if it was the nerf.

Do air throws remove red life?
the thought just crossed my mind and I havent had the chance to try it out yet

Haven’t checked, but good idea. I personally never used air throws, since it was usually better to go for the air-to-air counter hit into a juggle, but if they take away red life as well as having buffed damage, I’m in.
