and it doesn’t matter anyway: cross cancel is a generic mechanism, ofc you can point that out. that guile is an exception is simply a glitch.

he is definitely high tier. best zoner in the game IMO.
I was just going off what some other dude here said about you not having the game. Guile is an exception but I thought that other charge characters could do this too? Not sure as I haven’t tested it myself but that’s what I’ve read. Maybe it’s a charge character thing. That’d be cool if it was and they kept it in. Makes up for them having to get a charge while being pressured.
Also, 100% agree w/ you about tier position. What’s so awesome is that yes he is good at zoning but his normals are so good that he can play a mean pressure game as well.
Local group of fighting game enthusiasts I’m in are having a SFxT casual tournament for some cheepy little pot. We play each other a lot, but the theme of this tournament is to play with characters you’ve never played with. Since there’s not really any love lost involved, I was going to go with a Guile on point and a Yoshi as anchor because I’ve dabbled a little in both.
Any thoughts? I thought it would let me play a nicely defensive footsie team.
nope. guile is the only one it seems. no other charger can do this.
guile is a very solid pick against all “top tiers” currently. he does pretty well against rufus, hugo, raven, ryu, rolento etc
I know it’s for fun, but Yoshi is not great in this game. I tried him at the start but he’s slow and burns meter to keep up…not great!
Hugo is nowhere even in the stratosphere of being top tier and Rufus is probably guile’s number 1 worst match up.

As he should. If Guile had to press forward to counter, he’d lose access to all his charge if it didn’t come out. The other charge characters don’t rely on charge the way guile does. I’m looking at it as reparations for SF4.
This would also make him team well with any charge character. Keeping your charge off the alpha counter/tag. Watch out for my guile/blanka in the fall kids

Guile is such a nice counterpick option and just a solid point substitute for any team. You got a solid grasp on footsies and spacing? You’ve got the ability to gain a shit-ton of meter for your (probably more damaging) anchor spot. I use Cammy/Steve but against some match-ups like Rolento or Gief I like Guile a bunch.
Can we get a combo thread going?
I’m so happy c.LK, c.LP, c.MP is so easy to do right now, no more fucking 1 frame links.
Also yeah, Guile’s alpha counter can be done by just HP+HK, you can even mash it and it still will come out. I hope this doesn’t get fixed, even if it is a bug, it adds a unique value to him.
guile’s quick combo 3 might actually end up being useful imo. only uses one bar. sonic boom dash cancel, quick combo 3.
chain into c.hk xx switch cancel delives some nasty mixup opportunities as it’ll a jump crossup will hit when the block stun ends so it’s no auto block. can be reversaled betwen the two hits tho, you have to know it tho as it’s not very obvious.
Anyone that played sf4 knows you can kill guile between the hits on his sweep. Punish with anything.

The more I play this game, the worse I feel guile is. Dieminion seems to agree too.
Seems like your best options if you want a zoning character are Dhalsim, Chun and Ryu.Oh and of course Raven.
I dunno man. I’m loving guile. Best battery ever. EVER.

guile is better than dhalsim overall i think. i agree with chun/ryu though, but ryu is near broken anyways. sagat is probably better too…and raven.
that doesn’t mean he’s ass though. i personally think he fits this game better than sf4. but i think that people keep forgetting that this is a team game. solo tiers mean way less in this game. pair one of the above mentioned characters with guile and you’ve got a team that can lame out probably 80-90% of the cast. guile/raven is no joke. i know because it’s one of my teams, lol.
guile is a point character and a pretty great character at building meter for a partner who might need it. or he’s just good for wearing down the other team as much as possible before you tag your secondary character in.
