Super Mario RPG? It was the first RPG I took seriously just cause I could play as Bowser. It also introduced me into RPGs.
a close second would be Circle of the moon… I remember grinding/farming for DSS cards. Plus Nintendo Power claimed there to be a secret Camilla ending if you beat the game under 2 hours. Sadly, it was false.
Wind waker cause it was my 1st zelda that i finished by myself without the help of my brother.
1-DRAGON QUEST 8 PS2
this fucking game…was an incredible experience. the art style, the music, the story, the writing, the characters, the immense scope and size of the world. just, just incredible. almost perfect. proof that video games could be works of art.
spent 500 hours first playthrough. 250 in my second. just exploring shit.
disappointed DQ9 wasn’t anything like this one.

I think the magical sword opens up the possibility that the legend of the phoenix and dragon mirror could be true. I think Yu Suzuki’s intention all along was for Shenmue to be a fantasy RPG. He wanted to rip you from everyday life into a fantasy dimension. Problem was he did too good of a job to a point where people hate the idea of leaving the life like cities they inhabited in Shenmue 1 & 2.

Do you remember the dialogue at 2:42? Chi You a Chinese demon will resurrect itself on earth, I don’t know if the magic sword was going too far.Who knows we may see this supernatural phenomenon in Shenmue 3.
In the arcade there was a game called Space Harrier. Space Harriers opening line when the game starts is “Welcome to the fantasy zone, get ready!”
What was then? It’s a great game with atmosphere, solid shooting mechanics, and enough enemy and stage variety to keep it interesting but I really think you should try Dead Space it’s on a different tier.

I understand the temptation to lump them together because at first glance they seem very similar both are over the shoulder tps with a horror bent, but that is where the similarities end because they’re both very different games fundamentally and cosmetically. RE4 is a great game but it’s a well made shooter with a creepy atmosphere leaning much more heavily on the action oriented side than survival horror while Dead Space 1 and 2 is the opposite. Unlike the RE series the Dead Space series makes an atmosphere of dread and discomfort it’s core, it really is everything a true survival horror game should be. Resources are somewhat limited, light and sound design work in tandem to always appear menacing, the lack of HUD, fear of being attacked at anytime anywhere even while doing anything in game like upgrading weapons make DS embody horror in game form. Even the lore of the universe is sinister almost like a film noir in the the future almost everyone is corrupt and out for themselves it’s a harsh world so much fucked up shit happens before and during the games and the characters rarely show any humanity. Dead Space 1 and 2 have a different goal than RE4.
Also how can you possibly think 2 is less scary than 1? In 1 the backtracking and repetitive dark corridors really took away from the immersion and reminded players that it is a game, while 2 went above and beyond to use the bigger budget all for more detailed light and sound design. The lighting and sound is the key to both game’s success and 2 simply has a deeper and wider range of tools to unnerve players with. It was a lot more action oriented than 1 I’ll give you that but it also tried much harder to use multiple scare tactics while 1 used jump scares much more.
