The Greatest Videogame You've Ever Played

GTA3 or MGS, both changed everything for me, got no way to choose between them.

Edit: Dunno how I forgot about Shadow of the Beast.

I said no fighting games fag. :3k:

I…Don’t know. So many games over the years I could chose from. Do I base it on story, gameplay, visuals, replay value, overall fun or sheer epicness? Too many to choose. >< I could say Steel Battalion, no one would argue the greatness of the first 2 games based on the level of realism and detail.
I Really can’t choose so I’ll Just say Resident Evil 4 because I can play it over and over and over.

Silent Hill 2 and Deus Ex. Groundbreaking games, still the best in their respective genres. Still absolutely fucking fantastic games (people who say that Deus Ex hasn’t “aged well” can go eat a dick).

And the world of Morrowind deserved an honorary mention. The amount of hours I’ve spent, running around without aim, just exploring. Every cave, every tomb, every shrine. Wealth beyond fucking measure, outlander.

And yet you have no authority over me whatsoever. Isn’t it great?

I think Dead Space 1 & 2 were pretty much RE4 on steroid in terms of action and scary atmosphere. Less so with dead space 2 but none the less fun as hell. Also, it’s probably one of EA’s last quality titles that doesn’t gouge your want to maximize the gaming experience… Anyway, politics aside:
I LOVE JET SET RADIO FUTURE. Probably one of my favorite games of all time. It’s really hard to commit to a title of greatest because every game that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed has its own reason for being considered the greatest.
Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Dead Space 2
Third Strike
and the Paper Mario series are games that I know I can come back to after a hiatus and really immerse myself, again, in the same breath-taking experience a fresh amazing game offers even though I’ve played through it once before.
Also, Civilization IV, SimCity4, and the RollerCoaster Tycoon series deserve honorable mentions.

Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Might cop some flack for that one.)
Catherine
Persona 3: FES
Childhood favourites would probably be Crash Team Racing and Banjo Kazooie.

I give you three boots for a reason.

Banjo-Kazooie gets my vote for favorite platformer for sure. Haven’t played enough new ones or old ones enough to make a judgement on that one probably though.

RPG wise,** Chrono Cross** (yes, it’s way better than Chrono Trigger, come at me bro), Final Fantasy VI and Suikoden II.

My favorite games also happen to be the best games I’ve ever played. To this day I have yet to play an RPG of the same quality as those 3 games. Dark Souls is a great game, but it has no good story, little life and no music except boss battles so it doesn’t compare. Dark Souls felt more like a giant and depressive post-game dungeon.

Psychonauts is also one of the best games I’ve ever played. I really digged the art direction, humor, music, story and gameplay. Just everything about that game was amazingly well done. A true master piece.

Honorable mention to Fall Out: New Vegas. Which I find light years better than Skyrim for some reason. And despite all the bugs (lolol Obsidian etc), it had a really good story and mechanics. Borderlands was more addictive but the game had no story and ass NPC models/animations.

And** Castlevania: Symphony of the Night**. Best castlevania game ever. I’d like to see a new Castlevania that would play like Dark Souls but with the music of SOTN. And not that Devil May Cry’s BS.

Max Payne series videos games i played

I would like an explanation. I’ve owned both, but never beat Cross, actually saw it somewhere IRL for 10 bucks, but I didn’t get it, because I guess I didn’t miss it enough yet.

FF6 I’m stuck on, of course, and I’ve always wanted to try the Suikoden series, isn’t it a tie between II and III for the best?

Interesting, it would seem MGS3 has been mentioned 3 times already.

Shenmue 1 and 2 , by far.

Ocarina of Time
Resident Evil (Gamecube version)

Ah yes, the obvious contender for best game ever. That and FF7.

Both massively overhyped, not overrated. Slight difference. But I never beat FF7. Oh well, I don’t think I’m missing much.

Xenogears - one of the best rpgs I’ve played. Story, characters, system mechanics, all of it was good. Some or more could argue about the game being rushed, that’s their problem.
Road Rash 1-3 on the Genesis - Generally a lot of racing games sucks IMO, Road Rash games on the Genesis did not. When was the last time you could mess a guy up that was blocking your line? It had all the right stuff. I’m still not happy that nothing surfaced from the CGI demo of a possible new Road Rash game.

Chrono Trigger’s main plot was basically a bunch of kids trying to save the world from Lavos. That’s it, nothing more. There was no depth to the story at all. In fact, the rivalry leading to the battle between Frog and Magus was more interesting than the main storyline. So much so, that once that side quest was over, I felt like there wasn’t much else worthwhile to do.

Chrono Cross is so much more than that. Main story was deeper, more complex and very philosophical. More mature. When I first played it, I didn’t understand much of what was going on. Then I played it again, and again, and again. And every time, I found something new. A little detail, subtle references or character backstory element that I didn’t get before. And every time I was mind blown and amazed at how clever everything was. I rarely get that feeling nowadays.

I think the main reason why a lot of people didn’t like CC as much is because it was too different from CT. Character/story and gameplay wise. And of course, some people prefer the time travel over parallel world theme.

They both had great music but I prefer CC’s soundtrack by far.

tbh I haven’t played Suikoden III (only tried it for a short while). But yeah I heard a lot of good things about it so I definitely want to give it a try someday.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, And Ocarina of Times are the best games ever outside of FGs like Marvel 2 that deserve an honorable mention as well

The Secret of Monkey Island

Not just a phenomenal game which still stands as the best of it’s genre, but a masterpiece in writing and interactive storytelling. There have been a lot of great games, but in terms of sheer brilliance / creative thought, I can’t think of one that beats it.
