The Greatest Videogame You've Ever Played

I completely forgot about Quake 2.

DOOM > Quake 2 > Halflife 1 > errythang else.

Sent from my thumbs, using SRK technology.

may i remind you, good sir, of abel the wicked’s fight quote, “its not the great who are strong, but the strong who are great.”

Skygunner anyone? old ps2 classic, Very underated. Deffs check it out if you have a ps3

Well I think Q3A is the fun of competitive fps in its purest form, although in terms of single player level design it is indeed non-existent. It does have plenty of ingenuity in its multiplayer level design though.

i meant ps2…

Why yes it is and reason alone for it to be one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. Thankfully there are a shit load more reasons then that for why it’s one of the greatest.

That game gives you 200 moves to custom bind to any key 7 button configurations you want. Wanna fight like a boxer? Go right ahead. Muai Thai? Sure why not. How about Drunken Master? Fuckin yes please.

God Hand is God Damn amazing and troll ass bustas like SWBeta don’t what they are missin. COME AT ME BRO! :badboy:

I fucking love this game. I played it once a week for like two years. It has tons of charm, wonderful characters, a great flying system with cool ships, wonderful music and a fun scoring system. Skygunner was the shit and I’ve always been heart broken at there being no sequel.

dont know X2 had way better action and story then X1

Sonic 06

[details=Spoiler]
on a serious note:
okami

Gamecube: F-Zero GX
Snes: Link into the Past, F-Zero, DKC
4 players: Muscle Bomber Duo
5 players: Dungeon Explorer
Saturn : Fighters Megamix, Nights

Lyin’ ass motha fucka.

It was kinda cool getting Zero’s parts yeah, but the X-Hunters were a nice touch. The music and bosses are outstanding, the stages are all unique, and the charged weapons had good variety and uses, it had the best Buster Cannon charge shot upgrade.

Possibly my two favorite MM songs period. ^

Edit: Ok, 3…

GAHHHH Fuck it the whole soundtrack is a masterpiece.

storm eagle is the best soundtrack. remember at the start of the level, once you ride the platforms up to the top, you do a running jump and dash jump off to the left and find a heart upgrade? as you are flying through the air, this glorious music plays in the background. quite fitting. then later as you are fighting bad guys, the glass shatters horizontally in a giant shockwave. again goes perfectly with the baller music.

So since fighting games aren’t allowed…FINAL FIGHT. Arcade version

then it wasn’t called that but

STREET FIGHTER '89

I have so many favorites, but as far as greatest game I ever played? It was a toss-up between Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong Country 2, Symphony of the Night and Tales of Symphonia.

I finally settled on Donkey Kong Country 2 as the greatest I ever played.

It’s up there for sidescrolling platformers, for sure.

Like others, I can’t pick a greatest game. So, a list.

Secret of Mana

My favorite RPG. I love the battle system, especially with a 2nd player. The world is interesting, the soundtrack is good, cool magic (and useful, unlike say Final Fantasies); just a great game.

System Shock 2

A FPS with RPG and survival horror elements, what’s not to love? Customizing your player without being locked into a class is great, and the ammo conservation in the game is balanced well. You don’t get enough to go hog wild, but you’re never helpless. It also has a fantastic atmosphere.

Parasite Eve 2

I love the replayability more than anything. Doing another run with different weapons and different parasite energies never gets old. Multiple endings, plenty of weapons, cool difficulties, oh yeah.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection

I cheated because I couldn’t decide between Mega Man 2 or 3. Platforming at its finest.

Can’t decide on one greatest game I ever played but THE greatest sleeper game I every played was Turok Dinosaur Hunter back in 1997. I mean, the box art left a little to be desired. I HATED the idea of playing it when it was the only game left on the shelf not checked out at Blockbuster. Finally, I tried it…and wow I couldn’t explain how pleasantly surprised and dazzled I was with it. The music, the weapons, the enemies, the death throws, the levels, and the silent main character himself, Tal’ Set.

Just falling off a cliff introduced you to what a real person would sound like falling to their doom. Even when he gets eaten by Thunder, the bionic T Rex, his yell is so close to realism, I cringe and smile at the same time. I even get goosebumps hearing the Campaigner tell me the universe is his, if you lose. People bitch about the ending but really this game is point A to point B. He lives and survives in a lost land, there is no happy ending, just continued struggle.

It’s an Indian using traditional and futuristic weapons to fight men, aliens, and dinosaurs. What more do you need? Good game. If you haven’t played it, I pity you.

I need to read less of this thread. I wanna go out and buy Dark Souls and Dead Spacr 2 now…

And when i get home im going thru and tallying up games, with my votes to be equal to 100 of everyone elses and people who named over 3 games with no explanation DON’T COUNT

MGS winning by 1 over ST with 6 points. Next closest are DKC2, OoT, FF6, Okami, MGS 3 and RE4. Seriously fuck all you that listed like 10 games shit didn’t count

I agree completely I love lists that have even the tiniest bit of explanation it’s nice to see what really matters to other people with a shared passion. Anyways platformers are my favorite genre, there isn’t anything as fun as running and jumping over stuff I don’t know why exactly I guess I just really appreciate how the genre shines the spotlight on the level design which really connects player to the developer’s vision. Also platformers more than any other genre cram an unfathomable amount of cleverness and pure unfiltered gaming bliss into such a seemingly simple and compact experience. It’s really impressive when a platformer can be intelligently built and meticulously crafted while never forgetting to tap into that part of the brain that makes gamers enjoy pressing buttons.

Sonic2 king of platformers is the best game I’ve ever played not for any single defining characteristic but how well all of them meld together to create a very specific atmosphere and experience. The saturday morning cartoon like sprites of sonic, tails and enemies all with just a hint of “tude”, the weird, catchy, appropriate music that feels tailor made for each stage, the balance of giving players a sense of free form speed and carefully timed jumps, the easy but still somehow fun to fight bosses, the self enabled addiction to get as many rings as possible, and finally the placement of obstacles in every stage. All of these elements combined really encapsulate something that to me encapsulates the essence of gaming nirvana.

Assuming you’ve played the first make sure DS2 is the next game you play you won’t regret.

 What is everyone saying ST for…I don’t see any of you niggas on GGPO =/. And yes I understand you don’t have to actively grind a fighting game to love it but it’s jsut a semi joke since ST is the most popular of the unpopular games AKA less than 30 active players including myself in the U.S.……please we’re…desperate come to GGPO we have candy and barbie dolls and…blast what devil do adults like…um uhh Justin Beiber posters!
