I just want to list a few of the comics that have stood out the most to me, I’m a Marvel fanboy I’ve only ever had mild interest in DC/Image/other comic book lines.
Marvel:
Civil War story arc
Fatal Attractions story arc
Spectacular Spider-Man #200
Uncanny X-Men (1963) #210-213, #268
Wolverine (1982) #1-4 [Chris Claremont + Frank Miller… 'nuff said]
Wolverine (1988) #10, #48-50, #75, #90
X-Men (1991) #25
I didn’t stay into comics much after Wolverine turned feral, and the Spider-Clone fiasco. So my favs aren’t modern… Civil War is only there because I’d read them after hearing about Cap’s death on the news.
Lots of things have already been mentioned so I’ll throw a few more out there.
Earth X
My favourite comic series of all time. I read it at least once a year. Everyone do themselves a favour and go buy the TPB. Universe and Paradise aren’t as good, but still are a good read.
Mark Waids run on Captain America Vol.3 #1-23
The only time I’ve thoroughly enjoyed any Steve Rogers Cap stories. It also helps greatly that most of it was drawn by Andy Kubert, who I’m a fan of.
Any series with Thanos as a main character
He’s a brilliant villain, who doesn’t fit the norm.
Sabretooth - Death Hunt
A very well written story with a gorgeous art style.
IMO
S: DKR and Watchmen are god Tiers and should be banned
A: Mort Weisinger’s Superman editorial run, Gardner Fox JLA (not Denny o Neil’s), Stan Lee’s Fantastic Four run (Essentials 1-3) [thus we have CvS2 Sagat, KOF 98 UM Krauser, KOF 2000 K’]
B: Chris Claremont’s run on X-men, Stan Lee & John Romita’s run on Amazing Spider-man, Daredevil Year One, Walt Simonson Thor, John Byrne FF, Dennis O Neil’s Batman Editorial run circa 1987-1994 (though this one would be the most unpopular), Wolfman and Perez’ new Teen Titans, Grant Morrison’s JLA run, Geoff John’s Flash run, John Byrne’s Superman Revamp (probably the weakest of the bunch)
C: Kurt Buseik’s Avengers, Jack Kirby’s Jimmy Olsen run, Daredevil Born Again, Greg Pak Hulk, Mark Waid’s Flash run, Ultimate X-men first fifty-ish issues, Grant Morrison’s Doom Patrol
D: Claremont and Jim Lee era X-men titles, Jeph Loeb’s Superman run,
can’t think of Tier E’s but I do know that these are what I consider Top Tier’s even the Bottom E tiers at the back of my mind are still very very very good in my book.
