Why do we call anime games anime games? Like everyone knows what you mean when you say that but like…Street Fighter is pretty anime too lol.

Is Marvel an anime game? I don’t think so but I really don’t know

Anime is a nebulous label that people use to refer any game not made by capcom and maybe SNK.
Marvel fits all the criteria that they use to say a game is anime, but somehow is not anime because reasons.

Some dude went and dismantled all the excuses that many people used to label a game anime here

Because it’s a comic, dummy.
Kappeek

It is, but it’s more of an artstyle label than essentially a gameplay one, or else Mahvel fits in more than Unist.

When talking about games like GG or BB, people also refer to them as Airdashers, but the anime artstyle is so impactful even to the untrained eye that the label kinda stuck.

Does a large amount of the cast have an air dash?

Its anime.

By that definition, Marvel’s anime and Granblue isn’t.

Yeah, no.
Games like GranBlue, BattleFantasia, AquaPazza, Vanguard Princes, Koihime Musou Enbu, Blade Arcus, etc, etc say hi.
They dont have airdashes, yet they are still anime games according to some people around here.

You can go and read the thread i posted above.
Anime is a label that its definition changes depending on the excuse that people want to use to not play the game, lol.

No one agrees on what makes an anime game anime.

Sometimes is the number of buttons the game uses, sometimes is how long the combos are, how many bars and meters the game has, the type of mechanics, if it has hentai made about it, if it has body pillows, you namer it.

So Marvel is anime? I never hear it referred to as anime it’s sorta it’s own thing?

Is it not anime because of the comic book characters?

If it was something about the artstyle, then every game except MK would be anime.
And even MK could be constructed as one with all the weeb shit it has with Ninjas, people going isekai into other worlds to fight evil and shit like that.

Is not anime because anime is usually thrown as a pejorative descriptor, and labeling marvel anime makes some people unconfortable.

GranBlue isnt anime though.

Not according to everyone else, lol.

Wait anime is like…a fg slur?

Edit: I thought GB was anime but clearly I have no idea lol

Many people use it that way.
And like i said.
Anime is a term its definition changes.
For some people is the aesthetics.
For some people is the gameplay.
For some people is how much mechanics it has, or how many buttons the game uses for attacks.
Or if the game in question has an anime.

It has no real meaning.

But one thing is for sure, you point out that their prefered game is anime, they start making excuses to try to claim it isnt.

SF is anime but Capcom want you to think it’s not.

It’s a more nuanced thing.

Sure, SF does have an anime side to its artstyle, but compare it to say, Unist.

Unist isn’t an airdasher, so why people call it anime?

Because the artstyle is aggressively anime.

Nowadays? I don’t think so, especially now that they’re doing very well.

SFV changed a lot of things on that front. People got more exposed to anime and it kinda lost the derogatory connotation.
