I’ll miss you Gootecks! You’re the guy that convinced me to join the FGC.
Sounds like some shady bidness went down leading to his departure. I hope he’s going to practice nonstop and win EVO and give a bigger “f- you”
lol
gootecks was pretty good in the early SF4 days, i have no doubt if he loved the game as much as third strike, and focused on competing rather than expanding the audience of the FGC he would still be one of the top players out there today. but his focus was on making this scene bigger, and to be honest im thankful for that.
Whatever Gootecks plans in the future, best of luck to him. Dude knows how to bring the fun factor to everything he touches.
Thanks for the countless hours of dedication and entertainment, Ryan. You and Mike rock.
It is really sad to see him go, I will miss his Youtube videos, but you gotta do what you gotta do, I wish him all the best and hope he still plays casually.

One thing I will always remember about Gootecks, on top of all the other things, is that he became synonymous with Team Fortress 2 raffle threads as he always appeared in their first post pictures for some odd reason. Gootecks’ presence was felt by others outside the FGC, even if they didn’t know it. Gootecks for president.
Thanks for the FC Jago interview on Cross Counter it was FGC gold

i don’t really know what’s gone on here, but if he’s been forced out due to some sort of “beef”, then i think that the people responsible should think about what they are doing. regardless of his skill level as a player, his brain had the right concept in terms of taking fighting games forward. look at bar fights. call me crazy, but that shit is far more hype than watching a stream of a bunch of guys in an arcade. the idea of adding beer, food, music and a club atmosphere to fighting games was a great concept, and i actually think that same concept should’ve been used more and expanded even further. you could’ve had big name dj’s playing, thus bringing in girls, along with people that don’t even know about fighting games. then they get to see that combofiend match/hype and those same people that didn’t give a shit about fighting games decide to come back next week too. far less boring than mlg/esports route imo.
i wouldn’t consider myself an 09’er, as i played sf2 back in '92, along with a bit of alpha 2 and some of the sf ex series. was i a complete scrub? of course. did i take fighting games at all seriously? was i looking for my local scene here in england? hell no. the only reason i even got any good at sf4 was because i stumbled across the early sf4 arcade infinity ranbats, featuring players like gootecks, sanchez, mike ross, tatsu and co. i saw them doing headbutts into ultras, fadc’s, all that shit. from there i decided i wanted to learn how to do all of that too…and i did. i gained so much basic knowledge from watching those ranbats, and from listening to the commentary (which was mainly gootecks), i’d learn even more.
so yea, as corny as this sounds, there’s absolutely no way i’d be playing fighting games if it wasn’t for gootecks. i think that the same goes for a lot of the newer players too.
having said all that, i know gootecks is a wiley old business man. i’m sure he’s up to something.
Hopefully he comes back, or puts on events, or something. I’d love to see a “Lord Gootecks Invitational”. He could wear a crown, or wield a golden scepter as a microphone.
Seriously, though. Thank you Gootecks for the swathes of delicious media you output. A rather large handful of people I know play SF now simply because of Excellent Adventures.
Youre right. ITLL BE MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!
too soon
Even though Gootecks only left the FGC for one night, I am still taking all of the credit for his return. :encore:
the real loss here is that we have literally nobody left to represent the fgc that doesn’t have that bewildered aspie look in their eyes
Keep playing Rose.
You give me hope.
And a hard on.
