The Good But Generally Bad Police Thread

I stand corrected. It was a family member saying some dumb stuff on social media after they were arrested.

However, it was posted earlier about the lack of training in multiple areas (one of which was de-escalation).

Here is where you conveniently leave out that he ran around their truck to avoid them and yet the got out the truck with guns drawn. If me and another armed man approach you with a firearm after you attempted to avoid conflict with us, what would you think? They initiated the conflict. One the victim tried to avoid. I’m not going to bother with this any further. To be frank, i find you position this situation complete unreasonable. Textbook victim blaming.

My whole point was to say this wasn’t racially charged based on the evidence we have. lots of disagreements there and that’s fine but the rest played out because the other two men were in the mindset of playing hero.

I think got off track a lot in the past few hours

The more accurate statement is there is no evidence stating this is racially motivated. You’re asserting your opinion as fact based on the order of your words.

Many of us are of the mind to say that based on the information, location, and how these men asserted themselves into the situation seem to have an implicit bias based on race. Your position often made it seem like this couldn’t have been racially motivated. Then you brought his past criminal history as an opportunity to “justify” why it’s not a race issue and that it was a factor in why he was murdered by two civilians. If his rap sheet is used to prop his inherent threat level then it’s fair for many of us to look at other similar situations and draw a pattern. Ahmaud got out of line and our Glynn County vigilantes weren’t having it.

Again, I am all for having an honest conversation. However, asserting that this isn’t a thing because of no evidence when we have a pretty good read on how these situations play out.

At the end of the day this is in the Police thread because there was social outcry to arrest these men. The only reason they are behind bars is because WE saw the video.

This fact alone highlights a glaring failure of our justice system.

Fair enough on the wording.

I had a longer reply to say but instead I’ll go back to the point of the thread. These were men who made a bad call who weren’t properly trained and took a life acting on bad faith. That I can agree to.

It relates to something I was sent and posed an interesting Q:

1539813035267

But based on what occurred…I can’t agree with it…but then again we don’t hold bad cops accountable either.

Yea as bad as cops can be I still trust them more then citizenry.

Most cops are good people simply doing their jobs. The main issue is, by in large, the police will band together to protect a cop that they know is a piece of shit. There is a culture that fosters this behavior because if a good cop says something about a bad one, they get ostracized.

Yea I know. They have some real.issies going on for sure.

Still trust them more then a bunch of emotional randoms.

That picture up there is blind and deaf to the reality of the world.

I don’t trust any cop fr unless I personally know them, history has shown they’re not too friendly with my ppl. Cops are simply ordinary ppl with more priveledges but They’re prone to the same evil (and good) as any regular person.

They’re only slightly more “trustworthy” than citizens due to being under a microscope so they generally HAVE to be on good behavior or risk losing their career/being exposed (body cams)

However, I recognize they are a neccessary evil to some degree, without them the balance would shift and arguably be way worse

Cops are bullies. And I only know of one sure fire way to keep bullies in check…and it ain’t protesting or ASKING for justice although I wish those things DID work…

Sick of seeing shit like this everyday, we just want to live in peace and not be harassed because of our skin. Ugh

My dad was a cop and I worked for a law enforcement agency for almost a decade training them. Yes, there are terrible cops, but most in all honesty do the right thing. Now when I say most that is not saying that an agency can have a large concentration of bad officers on the beat.

The problem with all of this is a lack of accountability. There aren’t too many jobs where you can kill a man and say it was an occupational hazard. There are issues with policing in general as instinct is inherent upon reinforced bias. We can definitely do better.

On the other side of that, when I was doing public events with some of the officers, they would say how parents (white and black) would tell there kids that “be good or the cop will arrest you”. Their statement was to the effect “we’re seen as something to fear at an early age.”

Okay so just from a law enforcement standpoint

Dude was cuffed up

There was 4 of you there. After cuffing up put dude in the police car

Instead dude just knees him until he suffocates to death.

This is murder.

I always hate this “he was resisting because he was tensing up” such a bs excuse.

The guy kneeing him murdered him without just cause and in front of multiple witness who recorded it.

Asian officer just let it happen. They literally had dude cuffed and instead of putting him in the car and driving off he choked him to death.

Just as somebody who has made guys cuff up of course they will tense up anybody totally relaxed is an anomoly.

I am disgusted by this

I really think cops need more situational training. When i was with the dhs i had to do 6 months of training. A lot of it was self defense and situational.

When i got back home from the academy i did training with big john mccarthy the referee from ufc was on lapd for 25 years. His classes were situational and all about maintaining composure and asserting yourself without getting a lawsuit.

I thank god i has the training i did and it served me well for those 4 years

But jesus these guys out here in Minneapolis those cops from nypd.

Fucks sake all those guys who beat up prisoners in la sheriffs.

These are the fucks who make law enforcement look bad.

You know that cop might be arrested but most likely will be taken to civil court and sued

I concur, I had some police training when I was in the Marines and its 90% situational training.
You train for various situations and what is the proper response to those situation.
Like even before the police training, in basic combat training were taught not to press hold on to a prisoner’s neck that could make them suffocate and die (like that cop did). There parts of the body you can knee on to with your weight and would be unlikely to cause injury, and there parts you have to completely avoid like the neck. We were taught pointlessly killing someone in custody was a straight up war crime.
