LOL at all these weaksauce excuses, 99% of yall in this thread just don’t want to admit you’re:
a.Bad at any game that takes skill
b.Afraid to say you don’t like any “og” game
c.Not interested in playing something for fun rather than because everyone else plays it
d.All of the above
I’d respect someone more if they for example said “ST is ass” rather then “I would play ggpo but errr umm uhhh insert bullshit excuse”
Exactly the points some of us have been trying to make, we don’t want to sound like douchebags here but some of these excuses are pretty half-assed. I have no qualm with someone who simple says I don’t play because I don’t want to or I just don’t like the games.
All I want is for more people to play on ggpo, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. No one’s forcing you here, but it’d just be nice if we had a bigger online community for some of these games that are still fun to play even to this day.
c. bugs me, you think they’re not playing games for fun? Also that goes exactly against shoultz (and some others’) primary argument, which is that if it isn’t fun they should just man up
To both orochi and negative, I’d say the same thingthing.
There are plenty of people that are willing to say they just don’t want to.
With the people that say they do but are having troubles, you can do 2 things…

[]Try to help them
[]Call them liars

I can’t imagine what you think the advantage of doing the latter is.
Any game supported by GGPO Final Burn Alpha that is not in the main lineup can be played via a savestate hack. This is done by starting the game of choice up offline making a savestate of said game then changing the name of the savestate to one of the supported games savestate and saving it in the folder.
With the advent of tools such as Hitbox Overlay while watching games and or playing the games within ggpo (thx Pasky), teaching players and coaching them through matches is much easier for me to do then ever before. For anyone who wishes to learn how to play their character in vsav I can be reached on skype (mightymarcurse) or in the ggpo client.
I know lots of people get legit games on GGPO and have fun, but my personal experience (this is from several years ago) was…
-3s was unplayable. This is well known, but since its my main game I certainly wasn’t too fond of that (still think its unplayable in OE)
-Nothing besides ST had anyone playing it. I’ll only play ST with friends, but when I wanted to get A2 games everyone (5 people) was AFK. It seems like if you really want to play a game on GGPO besides ST, after all the setup you still have to figure out when peak times are for whatever game you want if you actually expect to play.
c. is a bad point, there is a slight difference between having people to play offline and having 5 Japanese people online I can barely communicate with who are all masters of the game while I am in the learning stages.
a. Against human competition, all games take skill so I’m not getting this either, I am bad at Vsav, but I am learning it pretty much entirely on my own without a training mode so it’s not because I’m not trying at all.
b. doesn’t apply to me.
In all honesty I probably will use GGPO when I start to feel more comfortable with the game, but I’ve only seen American players on a couple of times and never and Australian player other than myself, it’s always full of Japanese players and I struggle to communicate a lot of things unless they speak english.
Just for the record, let me say that MightyMar is easily one of the most overall helpful guys I’ve met in the FG community both irl and online, so if you want to learn anything VSav related he’s definitely the guy to go to.
i dont have a lot of interest in the game lineup and i could just put that time into other fighters
also i had multiple issues with it running. not like “my computer is a cardboard box” issues, but really strange errors. (emulating such games offline ran quite well)
I used to play a good bit of SFA2/ST and even some VS when it was new on GGPO. Unfortunately, the I’ve been unable to get the network in my neighborhood to make nice with GGPO. I haven’t been able to make or join games for over 3 years.
I barely play on GGPO since hardly anyone plays the games I like.
For example, I think I’ve had maybe 2 Nightwarriors matches in the last three years.
For KOF, ST and A3 it’s great though.
I don’t use GGPO because fighting games are a social thing for me. The best matches online don’t hold a candle to the mediocre matches with friends/coworkers/random dudes at the arcade.
I know I’ll never have the time to become competitive at a mid/high level, so for me it’s more about the people than becoming awesome at the game.
Goes to show, how Mainstream USA has gotten. Yes they"ll be times you"ll catch a hefty amount of USA flags in SSF2T & SF3, and a good 5 to 8 USA players for each of the other games at times. But compared to Europe, Japan, China, & etc. they clearly play the classics more then us. But were all entitled to are own choice & opinion; its cool. Since some of the new era games are pretty damn good to play and get into besides some of the shit Capcom has been spitting out lately.
Much respect to the USA players who still play on GGPO if and when they can and still love, respect, & play the classics , & the other countries that have alot of numbers still playing the various games on there keeping at least a online scene alive for the games.
Its more for calling out not fans of other games, but for everyone who says i love vampire savior. When we ask them if they want to play its “ugh, i can’t becuase my CPU sucks or " I am not good.” This entails that they never wanted to play in the first place becuase unless you are using a commadore 64 for you internet access needs, i highly doubt that ANYONES computer can’t handle GGPO for these piss poor excuses. Its specifically for those who are in the darkstalkers 4 thread asking for a new one, when they don’t even play or try to play the previous one. I know for a fact if they simply ask a question some of they’re problems can be avoided and they might actually end up liking the game.
People in the Vampire room are willing to teach. You don’t have to go and act like a lost child, NO one has to do that. Come down, try it, you’ll see how fun mid-high level vampire is.
