The GGPO Discussion Thread

You should be able to use MotionJoy with a PS3 pad and map the buttons to keyboard commands. I haven’t tried it myself.

sadly this is my reason.

I’d rather have GGPO on these newer games rather than play old ones I’m not really interested to JUST to try GGPO

-First I gotta turn the PC on.
-Then I have to fight the urge not to look at awesome porn and just play GGPO.
-Next I gotta wait in the lobby, cuz I don’t wanna challenge a foo and I’m ass, myself.
-While I’m waiting, I play regular GGPO and enter the cheats to simulate training mode.
-When I get the challenge, I have to go through the GGPO connecting process, at least 5 times, cuz it never works the 1st time around.
-Finally, most of the time, I’m fighting a guy in Japan and I get kicked after 6 or 7 games cuz I’m trash.

I spend an hour prepping for a 15 minutes of playtime. I do get lucky sometimes and find a cat who will sit and play with me, or lucky enough to get challenged over and over cuz there are like 15 people in the room. Not even gonna mention all the ports I had to open when I 1st started. Mind you, I didn’t know about ports and all that crazy shit at the time. I just wish this damn game was on consoles. Much easier and faster then. And my stick would work, too. I have to play with the damn MadCatz FightPad, on my PC.

Just because a person doesn’t play a game anymore doesn’t mean they never played it or they don’t appreciate the game.

And of course people are going to play the tournament standard games. That’s where the most competition is going to be and to “e-sports” those are the only games that matter when those are the big money games. You’re not going to get any sponsors playing Karnov’s Revenge or Wind Jammers.

Games die off for a reason. Whether it be a stale community, the game can’t go any farther because everything has been discovered, so on and so forth. It happens. If you don’t like it, stay in your room and play your games of old.

I myself don’t play UMvC3 or SFIV because I think they’re both awful games. I love Vampire Saviour but I don’t play it because I don’t really see a reason to.
I love fighting games. But I don’t have to play random obscure fighter or a mainstream fighter to prove that.

my computer SUCKS. and I don’t know how to install it.

Because it cuts into my drinking time.

Drunk Super Turbo is the best.
I’m so happy I have a Barcade down the street from my apartment.

For the pad players, you can use your PS2 pad, and this device to play games on GGPO with.

 The first part of that sentence isnt’ a reason?

because they took away streetfighter 3.
Seriously, GGPO needs to be mac compatible. Some body please do it. Im tired of waiting.

What type of stick do you use and does it have a toggle switch for Left Stick, Right Stick, and Digital Pad usage? If it has a toggle switch try switching it to Digital Pad setting so that you use Point of View instead of Axis while setting your stick up on the ggpo config.

If that does not work you can try using xpadder or joy2key to set you arcade stick inputs to up, down, left, right arrow keys as to emulator a keyboard of those same commands.

Thank god someone made this thread, I am a new GGPO user as of last week and I’m really trying to get better @ Street Fighter Alpha 3. Occasionally there are people online that help me with practice games and teach me a variety of stuff but it’s not enough. I can hardly ever get any games in with other people because everyone is usually already playing or everyone is from Mexico, China, Japan etc. and I can rarely connect. Even if I do connect with these people I can’t ask them any questions nor can they help me due to their lack of English.

I figured GGPO would be the best bet to get a lot of practice going for Street Fighter fundamentals and other games because this is the biggest and best fighting game site on the web and everybody on this site has a computer. Turns I was wrong, nobody here plays ggpo and if they do it’s on rare occasions. The more people that play the more games that can be added to GGPO as well as more competition and a bigger online scene hat will continue to grow. I’ve never played any of these games and I can honestly say that they are a lot more decent than most of the games that come out today. Don’t let the graphics and old age sway you into not playing, It really is a fun experience. Your going to get bodied at first, I know because I’m still getting bodied but you will slowly start to see yourself improve and the more you improve the more fun you will have.

EDIT: Does anyone know where I can find some Sakura guides for Street Fighter Alpha 3? The best I could find is on gamefaqs and it helps but not as musch as I’d like it too. Even some general basic guides or Sakura combos would be helpful. Thanks!

I play on, but i get mad when i go on and everyone is AFK. And the only people i get to play are snuggleguns and shoultzula. Hell, my old sparring partner vexco isn’t even on much these days. It gets boring getting raped by bee/lillith and pissed off at Hsien KO. So i am on from time to time now, hoping that there are more than 5 people on which… THERE ARE. Gonna go on for a bit. To watch for a while though, and maybe play a person or two that aren’t those mentioned above. Hell, i havent ever played mightymar yet.

EDIT: Just played him. 26-0. I ALMOST HAD HIM SO MANY TIMES! .

Let me write one for you real quick:

Pressure with lk Tatsu and fireballs. Once your in, use crouching fierce. Repeat until guardcrush, then CC for ~60% health or more.

Anyway, people don’t use GGPO because there are new games out. Why play an old game when you could play new ones that look better, are easier to play, and are less broken? Old games are great, I love ST, 3S, and Marvel 2, but what makes competition exciting is not the game being played. It’s the players playing it. Scrubs fail to realize this, so when they lose at new games, they pretend that older games are more legitimate somehow, when they’re no more or less legitimate than anything else.

Never knew that existed. I’ll try it out, thanks.

theres no cvs2 and my connection sucks.

VSav is an amazing game though. I have fun even if I lose 100 times in a row

I used to be on GGPO a whole fucking lot for VSav and Alpha 2 (ST to a lesser extent too).

I don’t know why I simply haven’t gotten around to playing GGPO games again.

A better question would be why do you think 90% of srk is here to play games and get good at them?

I have GGPO solely for the emulator. I don’t have the desire to play those games competitively but rather take a stroll down memory lane. Playing X-Men: COTA and Marvel Superheroes makes me feel like a kid again and I enjoy that feeling. If a friend would like to play online I won’t be against it.
