Big emphasis on air mobility and footsies as well as plenty of rushdown with all your crazy IAD tricks and whatnot.

why does shoultzula keep thinking that you’re only allowed to want a new entry in a series if you play the old ones
why do bronies keep existing?
…
i wish ggpo got updated to use the emergent naomi emulation. that shit would be too sick, cvs2 online~
Q-Bee one of the first characters in any fighting game with a Homing Air Dash. Reason I’m not on ggpo at the moment is I broke my second stick.
Why the hell do you want a new one if you don’t play the old when you ahve all this access to information adn good players with a great netcode?
Would you bother making a new game for a series that no one plays? I don’t think anyone here is crazy enough to say that 3K people should be playing VS, but five percent is a pretty small number.
I wouldn’t bother making shit for those folks if not even one percent(30 people for Christ’s sake) can manage to get on GGPO. Damn, I remember reading Shoultz and other vets responses on the subject a few months ago and I thought they were smug as fuck. Now I realize that a huge chunk of these “fans” are too busy with other stuff. It sucks for folks who don’t know how to get GGPO working or don’t have the ability due to extenuating circumstances. Some folks just don’t care about the game which is cool since they are being honest about it.
For people who can’t get your stick to work on pc. For 360 controller interface type you can get the official xbox 360 driver http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows this should allow xbox 360 and Madcatz TE controllers to work.
PS3 TE is a little more weird from what I here the PS3 TE only works on intel chipset so if that is the case your TE may not work on pc. You can try Motioninjoy to get ps3 pads to work which should make some PS3 sticks work
http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-use-a-ps3-controller-on-a-pc/. Official motioninjoy site http://www.motioninjoy.com/.
I personally use a pelican converter ps1 custom stick combo and I got the pelican converter to work with this download that also got my playstation eye to function as a webcam when at the time their were no ps3 drivers: http://codelaboratories.com/downloads/.
Also people should consider getting an instant messenger such as: aim, skype, etc to reach other players for matchmaking and gameplay discussion. These tools help a tiny community communicate with each other and should always be utilized as a learning tool to help new players gain insight through game discussion.
Not sure ‘lazy’ is a good word here, people want to have fun, not work, and there are plenty of games they can play without the extra effort. Why fiddle with ports or hardware compatibility if you can just go play a game that works right away?
This thread kind of reinforces it, these are mostly people who are motivated to play, but still can’t quite get it to work for any number of reasons… or never find anyone actually online to play (which is even more depressing because it screams vicious cycle).
And again this is the small group that knows about GGPO and was motivated to try it, its leaving out the huge groups that have never heard of it or don’t care about the games on it.
There’s a huge difference in playing an old entry and a new one coming out.
In general for any game:
A new entry will get players in a way the old one never could, even if every person who read this thread went and started playing the old one.
With that comes tournament presence and the possibility of money.
A 10 year old game’s playerbase will always have the stigma of being unbeatable, as opposed to people new to the series or who haven’t played it in a while who came back thanks to a new entry with modern production values and advertising.
Some people may not like a game that’s so “figured out”. And in combination with the previous point, may want a new entry simply to shake up the series, and close the gap between themselves and the vets because the vets have to learn all the changes from the previous entry, so they lose some of their head start.
And of course, there may be those who’s appreciation of a particular series comes from the characters, who want a modern audiovisual showcase of them. Or who couldn’t get into the previous entries and wants the new game to be different in ways that let them enjoy it.
I for one don’t want a new Darkstalkers at this point, but those are all the reasons I could think of for someone to want a new one, but not play the old ones (except for “I want to play the old ones but can’t get GGPO to work”).
ITT we over analyze everything to make ourselves feel better about [S]being[/S] [S]hipsters[/S] playing old games.
No one is on GGPO because they just don’t want to play old games.
It’s called a video game console. It can be used for offline and online play. Factor in the appeal of “new and shiny” and “ease of access” and more people will play on console. I mean take KOF for instance. What do you think would actually pull more people into KOF right now? KOF XIII or classics like 98 or 02? If you want people to get into Street Fighter right now, what would most people tell them? “There’s SFIV.”
Then you got a fair amount of people on SRK who don’t even play FGs anymore and if they do don’t even touch GGPO any more/at all. No one bought a console thinking “My PC is for my FG fix! GGPO 4 LYFE! Consoles for everything else.”
I may have disposable income but not enough to just go buy a computer and whatever accompanying accoutrements just to play video games when I already have an xbox 360 with stick (this investment was already a bit over the top just to get SF comp). Then you want me to download your pirate-ass emulators risking virus infection and total system crash back to the drawing board hoping to play on a little computer monitor with arrow key DPs. I got no time for that. I found time to go to the store to peep cheap computer they said I have to buy windows SEPARATELY which just itself is $100+. …trying to sell me graphics cards and sound cards etc, whatever these are… When did playing FGs become this expensive/involved pastime?
You rich.
Because despite popular belief, though this is a fighting game based website, most people here don’t actually play fighting games. Or at least not enough to be worth mentioning.
And some just simply don’t care.
hmmm I downloaded the 360 driver a long time ago and my stick works on my computer, but when I open ggpo with it, the buttons work but it won’t let me use the actual joystick part. I’ve played around in the config a lot and nothing seems to work either so idk. Everything works fine when I use it in other games.
I love you, father my babies.
Banned: no fake or secondary accounts on SRK.
I play on GGPO. Was playing like 1000 games of Savior last night, when I finally got it to work for me. But honestly, I don’t like playing on a PC. It’s just too much of a hassle to get everything up and running. My PC is mainly for porn and that’s about it. There are about 20 games on consoles that I can get to much easier. And I’m not gonna lie, if Capcom re-released Savior on consoles, I wouldn’t touch GGPO at all.
And nobody plays Vampire cuz Capcom’s a group of giant dick heads who failed to make the game properly available back in its heyday and today. Everyone doesn’t know about it or care to play it, they’re spoiled on SFIV and UMVC3. But Vampire is a god amongst fighters! Ma’fuckaz better recognize!
I play on PS3 and use the PS3 pad.
I really wanted to get into GGPO to play MvC1 and Alpha 2 (two games I LOVE). I couldn’t get used to playing on keyboard though, it’s horrible.
I do play offline every now and then. I can play Charlie okay with the keyboard. XD
Haven’t had time.
I can be found scrubbing it up in the Vsav room from time to time, problem is since i live in the UK I’m usually on at different times.
