I don’t think so, I’ve played with that handle for like 6 months before someone called me out on it and I think it was mightymar who got me by my play style. It was never by the way I typed\acted in the room.
hostile players who post on shoryuken and try do the same on GGPO can be side stepped so easily. Create an alternate acct and just practice w\o the hostility being there. If you go 0-60 against an asshole and you use an alternate acct, there is no way in fucking hell he could ever ever ever bother you in person or online. He will never know who you are and you can always just block him on GGPO. Its why trolls exist online, they can remain anonymous w\ barely any retaliation.
its not a very REASONABLE excuse for someone not to practice. I did that shit all the time when I was learning because I didn’t want anyone to bother me when I was going 0-40 against maxstah in A2. I changed my name and took so many losses and asked hella questions. It allows for a proper learning atmosphere for as much as you can gain from GGPO.
supercade first of all has some god awful input lag, extremely bad. Secondly, all the good players play on GGPO even damdai who made supercade. To my knowledge there are no known players that play on supercade over GGPO except for maybe 3s players. For st, vsav, kof98, kof02, its all GGPO.
in terms of training, supercade doesn’t matchup very well. Its not even an opinion either, its a fact.
if supercade was better top players and world champions would be playing on it over GGPO and they simply don’t. The netcode is better for GGPO and the competition is 100x stronger
next, I’m gonna issue a preemptive apology for the following:
So why does less than 5% of SRK use GGPO?
We just don’t give a fuck about it, that’s why. We would rather play the new shitty games with the bigger player base than play the old shitty games with a few oldheads.
Why take the time and hassle to set up GGPO, port forwarding, gather the necessary ROMs, adjust our fightsticks/pads to play Super Turbo when I can simply power up the ol Xbox 360 and play Super Turbo HD Remix? Because I’m fucking lazy and to me HDR is “close enuff”, that’s why.
Why say Darkstalkers is cool and all that, but fuck getting on GGPO to actually play Vampire Savior or even Vampire Hunter? None of that old shit, we want a new Darkstalkers, Ono. After another update to SFIV please
Fuck that “training tool for other fighting games” BS. Why should I be playing Vampire Savior to help me get better at playing something like…SSFIV or 3rd Strike?
Why should I enjoy scrubbing it up 0-50 against a bunch of old fucks in VSav when I’ve barely been playing for a week instead of scrubbing it up in SSFIV where at least have a shot since I’ve been at it for much longer?
How is being a whiny douchebag about not enough ppl playing VSav on GGPO helping to get new players in the rooms any faster?
^^^^ i don’t think anyone fucking understands that, I sure as hell don’t
if supercade was actually good, all the good people would be using it because most have. After trying both versions more good players are sticking with GGPO and like someone else mentioned if rollbacks suck, and I completely agree, crank up that input delay like supercade automatically does or you can be more picky about your opponents and get lower MS connections. Both solutions work fine.
and the best vsav supercade player now plays on GGPO that guy is just fucking beyond trash lol. He likes to talk about how good he was on laggy ass supercade when he can’t even beat our mid tier players on GGPO. Maybe the other players are better for the other games though, I can’t really say
Man fuck, I;'m really looking forward to going home for a bit next Friday, hop on GGPO, hopefully play against Kyle, probably go 1-20 against Shoutz again, and play soem Breakers.
95% of SRK is computer illiterate, spoiled by consoles… and i’m not bashing them or something, it is what it is.
port forwarding is the main gate keeper, finding roms the second, then everything else (having a decent computer for running the emulator+rollback netcode smoothly, getting your controller to work if it’s not plug & play)
95% of SRK plays SF4 and/or newer games
i remember how awesome and vibrant GGPO used to be… not to mention revolutionary: we were spectating monsters before streaming took off in the fighting game community, or before Ono & Niitsuma “invented” the spectating feature in the second iteration of their games
watching Dakou rippin’ it up in KOF98 with 100 spectators was memorable… or watching Alex Valle play ST with some serious competition from Japan… or stalking Kuroda in the 3rd Strike lobby
and playing people from 4 continents (Europe, US East Coast, Middle East, North Africa)? godlike!
now imagine what a huge step back vanilla SF4 was… shit netcode, no spectating, no replays.
For basically exactly the reasons that Shoultz outlined in the first place. If you practice at a higher speed, when it comes time to do things at your regular speed, it’ll feel slowed down. I’m not in a position to go hunt down a reference for you, but that’s totally a real thing. Science.
I mean, if that’s not the kind of thing you need to practice, then don’t, but it’s not like it’s a waste of time.
Maybe that exact scenario is a turn off for you, and that’s okay, but the answer to that question is just because it’s a good game.
you can lead a scrub to water but you can’t make them drink
there are a lot of weird things I learned on GGPO. Like I used to think AA’s were things like shoryuken’s and flash kicks. Turns out, AA is very general. You just have to neutralize a jump angle so even something like walking back outside of someones quick trijump is range is AA.
prior to GGPO if you told me walking backwards was an AA, I would of you looked @ you crazy but since you can walk back, dodge the normal, counter hit, possible counter rush, totally makes it an AA scenario
1: Most people don’t want a new VSav, because they don’t like Ono and Dimp’s design philosophy and the current one is almost as good as it can realistically get. A new one won’t likely be faithful to what VSav is really about, and it’ll most likely only serve to kill off the current scene like MvC3 did with MvC2 and give us a new, unremarkable FG.
2: It’s not just that you’ve been at it much longer, it’s got far more players, and thus more players around or below your level.
This post prolly makes me come off as an elitist jackass, which is funny considering that I’m not willfully ignoring the past of a genre I love, nor am I afraid to lose to get better.
Currently my issues is finding people online to play. I must get on at the wrong hours of the day because I never see anyone in the vampire savior room when im on.
