I think the idea is that Yamcha has a great assist and you just want to use it as much as possible, that’s why you run him third. But yeah, his Yamcha just got bodied everytime he had to do something on his own. You say that Kazunoko wasn’t using the right tools with him, but I am wondering what that’s supposed to be? Everything Yamcha does is just so fake and easily punished. Everytime I try to watch some high level Yamcha gameplay the gameplan slowly devolves into spamming heavy WFF and trying to catch the opponent off guard. Every. Single. Time.
I know that Kazunoko said in an interview that Yamcha is his favourite DB character, so maybe that’s why he is trying to make him work after the Vegeta nerf. But the more I watch him the more I think he should just switch back to Vegeta.
I run yamcha 2nd, cause his assist is really good. Also he is good to dhc into.
I know people don’t like to stay on the ground because no one wants to get locked down but yamchas best tools are on the ground. Definitely saw him doing random ex wff too lol.
His grounded ki blasts are really good. His 214 special has air invincibility with the grounded version, obviously his ex wwf, and his 5L is the only normal he has that can compete vs top tier buttons.
He was just constantly jumping in and trying to catch with a random super dash.
I mean I would probably look clueless too at that high of level but I feel like he wasn’t sure what to do at all lol
Wouldn’t be surprised if Yamcha is better with assists than without. Especially since I hear his rekka chains are kinda iffy for pressure. His assist is not good enough to worth being the bottom/anchor dude either. Goku black beam probably the only one good enough for that outside of Vegeta. Otherwise it’s better to have a Wesker lite anchor that can throw shit around and start momentum like Gotenks.
Good shit on Sonic winning. He originally created that team to deal with Adult Gohan, but still works out now that he’s playing 2 of the smaller characters in the game as it’s obvious that the small characters avoid hit boxes and Vegeta assist better than other characters. Still think something like Kid Buu/Tenks/Vegeta or Goku Black would be better in the long run as you can’t just evade top assists forever. Sonicfox prefers the Wesker/Mag/Vergil style teams that are more about point play, so he’ll rock it out until someone or something forces him to change.
Yamcha and Hit suffer from the same problem: Left Right Mixups. Between tags, vanish, and guard canceling, there are a lot of universal tools that people are already thinking about that just stop those left right attempts. And the guard protection doesn’t help either.
I can buy the whole ‘better on the ground’ thing being an issue, but Wolverine was better on the ground than in the air. It’s not a death sentence. But being shutdown AND shutout by a single move that everyone has? Poor guys

Yknow, I get national pride and wanting the runback and whatnot, but man, I really did not like how few people cheered for Go1 in his matches vs SonicFox.
Yamchas neutral is terrible… but he still has homing dash so it’s not THAT bad. The real problem with him imo isn’t that his mixup is easy to stop…
It really isn’t from what I’ve seen. People that want to poke you can just get frame trapped till they figure it out. The problem is his mixup is horribly low damage. I mean I don’t see how a crossup that can cross you up from half a screen away is bad… it’s really that he just gets no real damage from his crossup bar spending crazy amounts of meter to get what others get meterless.
But my Yamcha, even at only 2 days old had people never wanting to be on the ground… I’d just play neutral, wait for a fuckup like the opponent landing in a bad position and instead of doing wack shit like some sort of blockstring, I’d just dashup and do raw crossup. Same for after making people block iad jumpins and stuff… raw crossup when I land, or go for DR etc etc. neutral was a huge problem but I really found the terrible damage to be the biggest problem. He still has good stuff going for him though:
Can get slide KD off of super dash starters which is pretty useful with how much he has to lean on homing dashes.
His assist is straight killer.
Dhc into him and you still get a sliding KD for pressure, or you can end your combos into his super and still get a slide KD. That’s probably a lot of his utility. The crossup, the slide KD off of basically anything and the super into slide KD. But the terrible da,age and bad neutral are too much for those strengths to overcome. I personally would be happy if they just made his crossup stuff dp like 1k more damage and gave him some kind of neutral tool like an angled ki blast instead of that straight one.
SonicFox won it all in winners without any neutral assists. Either Cell is OP and doesn’t play neutral or Sonic is that much above everyone else in neutral.
I think Go1 is gonna ditch Vegeta assist. After the nerfs it became strictly a defensive or space control tool and people are gonna learn to work around that (even though Sonic Fox hanged himself a couple of times).
False. SonicFox’s neutral is ok. But his ability to open you up is beyond next level. And having two assists designed to help with that means you need to be a defense god to not get hit. It’s why he and Go1 are rivals right now
