Hello Gentlemen,
My name is Eller, and I am from Wilmington Delaware, USA. Though I currently live close to Ocean City Maryland now. I am an electronic technician in military aerospace manufacturing. I started playing fighters with some new friends when SF4 came out, and started out maining El-fuerte on pad while learning the game. I picked up Gen just before SSF4 and as it seems with everyone, felt an affinity for him. With alot of online ranked games, alot of practice against friends, questions, and analyzing the game, I have improved my gameplay and ability to read character movements and opponents well enough to stop a playstyle nearly 75% after the first round. A great deal of my games you will see me counterhit my opponent rather than punish him, as I dont think pre AE the old man had much combo ability for punish outside of super/ultra, or hp/hk-gekiro. I play very defensive and evasive, and I either remember or learn quickly matchup information versus an opponent. I alt Makoto and maybe swapping her to my main, because with her I get alot of tools* and combos that are alot more powerful. I also get something similar from Oni, in a shoto form. But he’s still being figured out by everyone so, just getting his fundamentals down. I am not usually online for very long, but I do not mind writing down opinions, findings, and advice at all. Even if I alt Makoto, I’ll pick gen for matchups that he’s better at, and right now, my Gen > Twins. Went to Xanadu a couple weeks ago and definitely proved this to myself >:)
Hi everyone,
My name is Anthony and I am from California, USA. I am 21 years old and work at various odd jobs often times being the dishwasher at a local Chinese restaurant. I played a lot of Chun Li during my time in both Vanilla and Super Street Fighter IV. However, due to the inspirational matches and teachings from Mr.Legendary Kiryu and that1niga, I started my journey on the path of Mantis and Crane roughly 5 months into Street Fighter IV. I play regularly with other people at the SFSU meetings also known as Freedemonia and browse on these forums occasionally to look up match up data and what not. I would like to think of myself as a fairly solid Gen player because I don’t have a problem with most of the cast aside from Cody. I did check out Oni, Evil Ryu, Yun, and Yang but they simply did not interest me. As of a year ago I decided to take a break from using Chun Li and focus all my attention on Gen. I hope to learn anything and everything I can from everyone here at the Gen forums.
Hey Everyone
My Name is Marcus and i am from Russia.I am 20 years old and work as cook.I played as Akuma most of them time untill i picked Gen i don’t have any of consoles i still play SF4 on live and with keyboard :V
Howdy, my name is John, I’m 18 and I’m from Birmingham, Alabama. I’m currently attending UAB to graduate as a major in something (not sure what). I picked up fighting games when I heard about SF4 coming out, though I never bought it. After renting it and browsing through the characters I notice this old guy and found out he had two stances. I tried him out and loved it. I mess around with a lot of other characters, knowing some basic combos and good pokes, but I like to say Rose is my secondary mainly because I feel I play very safe with her. I have recently started going to tournaments and have already purchased a plane ticket and booked a room for EVO. I’ve had many frustrations learning this character though I knew he was a harder one to learn. Through and through, I still find myself proudly saying I main him and will always use him as my main.
I am Kyle, I live near Houston, Texas. I too wanted a flashy character that is rarely played. I liked at first how Gen could change styles and how that physically made him look more complicated and flashy. I started learning him and found he takes practice but is perfectly easy to use as long as you know what to press to get into your next move (which due to switching styles usually takes more presses than other characters). I stayed with him because a lot of his tricks can really make you feel good upon success, especially drawn-out juggles and landing normal-special-super-ultra combos. Glad to be a player of a rare character, makes me feel that we contribute something to this game, because if we didn’t play then nobody would even see a non-cpu Gen. Plus, by playing a rare character, I get away with a lot more tricks than common characters would, nobody remembers the things Gen can do, but if a shoto wiffs a DP nobody misses a beat on punishing it.

…I am fairly good, but I would say I am rough advanced level. I hold my own in a lobby, but noticably out of range of expert/pro.
Ahoy hoy, I’m Danny. So Cal born and raised. Age 22, Perpetual student. Picked up Gen in vanilla after seeing Yeb beast with the slapchop combo, instantly regretted ever trying to learn the loop when Super came out and raped old man Gen with the nerf stick. Still, he’s such an awesome character, and I’ve invested so much in the guy that I can’t seem to stay away. I’m pretty damn scrubby, but that didn’t stop me from becoming the 17th ranked Gen in AE on day 3 (Seriously guys, get your stuff together, I’m terrible). I’ve actually gotten really rusty and I keep forgetting to do everything that makes Gen useable, but luckily no one knows the matchup and I can do alright online anyways. Proudest AE moment so far was beating some B rank Evil Ryu who immediately sent a message accusing me of hacking (perhaps he didn’t realize Gen was actually in this game, an easy mistake). You may have noticed that I’m a bit of a negative nancy, sorry, but I still respect anyone else who can work with the walking ball of cancer that is Gen.

Hello my name Jeffrey most of my friends call med Jeff. I’m 22 and i have been playing sf since sf2 on the snes but never got serious until sf4 vanilla came out.
I do music and make beats in my free time…I Live in Tuskegee, Alabama and there isnt much of anything round in the city.
In sf4v my main was vega cause i liked the fact that people found him annoying cause of his wall jumps…I didnt touch gen in then so i never knew about how cool he was…Super sf4 came out and i got a bit more serious about the game. I wanted to pick up someone that not many saw or knew about. I thought gen’s super to Ultra was the shit and decided to main him…I didn’t get online much at all cause i was stuck with dail up and the only way i could play was by going over to a friends house…
Each time the weekends came up i looked foward to fighting people online at my friends house. It was very exciting that’s what brought me deeper into the world stage of street fighter.I got my skills with gen all the way up to a C+ and was stuck there for a minute.I started searching for ways to improve my skills on youtube. I came across LeGENdary kiryu’s videos and I was amazed at what gen was capable of. I became frantic…
I want to step my game up sooo bad…Then one day on psn I ran into D-proto and wow it was mirror match and he really kicked my ass…I found out i had much more to learn with gen and about him. I asked him to drop some knowledge my way so i could improve.
He told me his bnb was (mantis) c. lk, c. lp, s. mp (crane) c.mp, low roll. After I learned that began to climb the ranks. Soon after that i started playing XBL played leGENdary kiryu a few times and saw a few more of his matches and learn even more…I bought a stick and decided to try too see where this will take me now, I can do pretty good combos and i am understanding the game a lot more.Looking forward to growing into even a better player…Catch me on psn lil_g57 and XBL lilg57
I didn’t know that combo… how much damage/stun does it do? Seems rather tricky to me… but if you managed to make it your bnb, wow congratulations!
EDIT: never mind, I checked… Now the TC ones do more damage… have you switched to one of them?
The bonus of the roll combo is that you are point blank and at +1 on hit. Its not completely useless. The old bnb with mp > mk xx hands did more than it but you lost all your pressure unless you were willing to burn meter.
TC ones? I am sorry i am still pretty much a noob in the Sf language department still learning…Um yeah it was my bnb for a while until i got the arcade stick. Once I got the stick i started to switch in between (mantis) c. lk, c. lp, s. mp s. mk. hands. and (mantis) c. lk, c. lp, s. mp low roll…Now i am trying to learn (mantis) c. lk, c. lp, s. hp s. mk geriko.
I love roll combos, severely underrated by most sadly, you get to keep pressure and have a slight frame advantage. biggest downside is that most roll combos require cgarging while switching stances in the middle of a combo, quite tricky at first. Also if the roll is blocked grapplers can SPD in between the hits of the roll sometimes (depends on spacing afaik) and afterwards, not sure about uppercuts.
Been away from Internets for a little while so kinda dissapointed it took me this long to introduce myself.
My name is Troy and I live in Adelaide, Australia. I run the SF scene in my town with a few other individuals and I am the state member for OzHadou.net. Outside this atm I freelance write when I have the time.
Currently don’t have too much going, I help out with events in Australia when I have the funds to travel and hopefully will be amking it EVO 2012 should I has the monies under my belt
I’m 24, 3/4 through a double degree in Journalism & International Studies, I study Japanese in my spare time and will attempt my Ni-Kyu when I get the chance.
I picked up Gen as an alt back in my teens in SFA2 & 3, I switched to Gen as my main about 3 months into Vanilla and haven’t had the time to switch to another character and feel at home like I do with Gen.
Been through all the highs and lows of Gen in SF4 and I’m usually hanging around on this board checking out the interesting things written from you folk
My name Kevin and I live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
I’m a med school student and just finished an internship at the dermatology department of the AMC Amsterdam. Suffice to say, I did not have a lot of time and haven’t touched SF in 6 months now. I intend to rectify this during the summer. Unfortunately the future after the summer does not allow me to play much SF either, but c’est la vie.
I picked up Gen first in alpha 3 because I liked his A-ism style. But more importantly, I liked the character himself. I have always found myself drawn to the martial art characters in fighting games, not caring much for 'unnatural characters like Blanka and such. The only other character I consider possibly more fun playing is C.viper, as she is pretty much the magneto of thise game with her crazy execution and mix-ups.
I see, thanks for explaining
@ thanewdude07 TC stands for target combo
Oh okay cool thanks for that!
Um yeah i use the target combos i like TC1 into geriko or hands…I am trying to incorporate TC2 into most of my combos cause it is stronger like you said just gotta get use to the speed of popping that S.HP,S.MK into hands or geriko…I am trying to get these oga cross ups down as well…
