I never said that. :o
English is not my first language, it’s my third.
Which reminds me. I kind of stopped working my English when I left high school. Was really good at it and at one point I even thought of studying English at University. But then I realized I wanted a job
lol its all cool bro. no harm done
My name is Matt. I’m 24, and I’m currently living in Haymarket, VA. I flunked out of college due to RL complications. It’s kinda difficult staying up in your classes when you can’t even afford the textbook, not to mention the lack of transportation to a campus 40 minutes away cause you lost your car in an accident. I ended up withdrawing from math class cause I missed the mid-term. That’s why my focus is entirely on working. It’s a decent job taking inventory for various companies. I make 9 bucks a hour, plus an additional amount based on my performance. It’s pretty decent.
I play Gen for the same reasons I play Seth; cause no one bothers to play them. He was a complicated character in Vanilla, having two stances and two sets of normals. He looked cool, and I got lots of wins with him due to the fact that very few people knew how he functioned. I dropped him as primary for Seth in Super due to all the nerfs he got, and the fact that I was getting better with Seth’s links. He’s still a solid secondary though when Seth loses to dumb stuff too much or when Gief runs into too many lousy matchups. I look forward to his buffs in AE.
Cool stuff. I shall add some time this weekend. Haven’t played for a week heh.
Hello Everyone,
My name is also Jason. I think I’m the oldest one here at 34 (which is why my kids say I play with the Old Man). I live in Phioenixville, Pa. About 40 minutes outside of Philly. I’m originally from Philly and I’ve been playing since SFII and been playing with Gen since his emergence in the Alpha series. Like most of you I like his upbeat and fast playstyle as well as his complexity. For some reason when I play with other characters I don’t seem to have as much fun. I consider myself a student of SF and have entered into some Tournements during my years in PSU. I even met Alex Valle in a CvS2 Tourney in early 2000. If anyone wants to spar, I’m on PSN. SSMG126.
My name is Samir. I’m 26 years old and I live in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. My hobbies are fighting games, karate, photography and traveling. My nickname is Wakatteru.
I play Gen as seriously as possible, and travel through Europe entering tournaments with my regular sparring partners until I go back to college in September for a tough study in Communication & Media Design. Like most of the others, fun motivates me to stick to Gen. The “underdog” characteristic plays a big part as well, especially in tournaments where the players take him lightly and suddenly end being knocked out with all the salt & drama included.
Can’t say much about my skill level. I’m a bit above intermediate level when it comes to fighting games in general, but with Gen it feels like I play top of my game.
I don’t practice much, but rather play some of the toughest opponents in my area and learning from that. Talking about all things Gen is really cool, and that’s why I often drop by on the IRC channel.
.
may i ask why?
I’m Peter, from Sweden, and I’ve always been drawn to Gen because I’m a kung fu enthusiast (I have practiced different styles for 9 years now). He’s pretty much the only cool character in the cast, he gets very little exposure, he’s an underdog and you can’t be a scrub if you’re gonna play him. All of that speaks to me.
Though many times have I tried to let him go, because I feel that he demands more of my time than I get back (in “winning” time), but I’m always drawn back. It just feels so good when you win, and all that effort pays off.
On the side I only play simple characters, like Bison and Hawk. We’ll see how I end up balancing my efforts in AE.
I’m Tim, 28, in the middle of nowhere by way of Missouri. Ive played SF since I was tall enough to see the screen on the arcade machines.
Sadly, there’s no local sf scene anymore so Im pretty much an online warrior. When I picked up SF4 I started out w/ Vega and spent all of vanilla grinding out
w/o knowledge of srk and such forums so I played horribly wrong. With Super, some other Vega players found me and showed me the err of my ways.
That’s when I decided to make a switch. I had tinkered around with Gen before but after getting bodied mercilessly by my new online friends I decided to
put all my time in on Gen instead. I like to think I’m decent with him now, however, I still have a long road ahead.
Recently people locally have had interest in MK so I’m putting some time in there, and one of my online friends showed me Arcana Heart 3 as well.
(which if you can get past the questionable sprites, the gameplay is intense, give it a try)
I’m kind of juggling 3 games, but I have no plans of dropping Gen or AE anytime soon. So if anyone wants to hit me up on psn “MoshpitPetey” any
words of wisdom would be appreciated
I’m Rafael, 28, Navy veteran (4 years, Aviation Electronics Technician), Journeyman Electrician, college grad (Bachelors in Game Design & Development), I now manage a GameStop in Florida. My original main in SF4 was Gouken, but at the end of SF4 i tried out Gen for some reason and he just felt right. I havent looked back since. It’s been a long road, a lot of losses, and a ton of upsets. Now i’m a Gen vet and the character finally feels natural after all this time. I’ve tried playing other characters but i find my self stance changing for no reason, so i stick with Gen, lol. I’ve picked up Yang for AE because i was great with him in 3S and they didnt put Urien in
Right now im sucking it up with Yang (going through the losing and learning process) and adjusting to the new combos for AE Gen (love that new Target combo!). Nice you meet you guys!
I wish I had footage of last week’s Gen vs. Yun showdown. I went against a buddy of mine who likes Yun a lot.
We ended with 50-1 in his favor, and most of them weren’t even close. Even though I didn’t press buttons needlessly and did some solid AA’ing, he only had to get in once or twice. And on top of that, he had a few of the safest ways in ((EX) lunge punch, spaced dive kicks). 50-1 is rare.
That guy’s good at guessing games, but against a solid Yun in particular I felt I need to practice for another year to stand a chance. And I really started to wonder if that was worth my time, so I was thinking about taking a break.
unblockable him
Wow, first from the UK.
I’m Gareth but I’ll answer to cront, budgies or finches. Finishing up on my PhD in maths and rinsing the old man in my spare time. I’m nearly as old as Jason at 29.
I have played Gen since the third week of vanilla when I went online and played FROG55JON and he picked the old man and I had no idea what the hell to do - took him in training and loved him so much he stuck. I tried to play several other characters in super but always ended up defaulting back to Gen when the new character didn’t have his speed, dashes, footsies or whatever.
I’m much better at theory fighter than playing but one day they will come together and I will be gdlk.
@wakatteru I’m really sorry to hear that, in my opinion you were the best Gen I’d seen in Europe.
@mike you gotta get close enough and throw him first, its not *that *easy. But yeah, it really does help.
@shin ein I assume you’re talking about the second target combo there - the first one is just as good!
Well, I made up my mind after getting 5th place at a ranbat last week. I’m quitting online play. Offline will last 3 more months due to stuff mentioned above (on hiatus for at least 1 year).
Yun doesn’t really have anything to do with it anymore. I just accepted it’s an uphill battle and try to get as many wins as possible.
HI!, i’m from Chile, i’m 30…used to play Sagat and shoto characters in the first days of Vanilla PC, the game was gettin so damn boring, then i discovered Gen…man, i can’t quit Gen!!, i play on xbox now, every time i try to change character i look the entire roster and i’m like “mmm…ok, this guy, naaaaaahhh!(go back to gen)”…
Playing Gen can be very frustrating, but every battle i win(not a lot) even rounds against bad matchs, feels good, cause when you win with Gen, you know there is no cheap damage, nothing you can spam, nothing free at all!, just pure Gen talent 8)…
also playing gen can help your defense out a lot. you learn to be very careful since one bad move can end up bad for gen. i am really good at blocking and my AA against other characters have gotten so much better by using gen. that damn crane cr.hk is a blessing and a cruse at the same time. that god for gen other AA too.
Hi
My name is Gustavo Peralta. I am 22 yrs old and i live currently in Mexico.
Currently University Student, dropped some years but im keeping it up.
I started playing Gen on Street Fighter Alpha 2 at 2008 on GGPO, after having fun with all the rooster, i found Gen the best to fit my style. He is so fast paced with chain combos, 2 styles, fast specials, 4 different supers! i just fell in love with him.
Then when Alpha 3 was implemented on GGPO, I found gen broken lol, the combos were easier, you could do Mantis Super lvl2 into crane anti-air super lvl1 for 70% damage was insane.
When Street Fighter 4 was first announced i was happy to see a new street fighter coming, i really wanted to get into it. Then Gen was introduced and i was very optimistic about the character, got me really hype!. At first the character was just COMPLETLY different! i had to depend on dive kicks shenanigans into sweeps and supers. Then i learned about the mk>hands, mk>hands combo, which took me weeks to get it down. That learned i won 3 tournaments here in mexico, 1 with honda and 2 with gen.
Nothing special because those tournaments were at 12-24 people at best, that was in Vanilla.
I didnt go to many tournaments after that, dont have any money to travel anymore and i live very close to San Diego California, i wished i could go to the weekly box arena rankings or to WNF on LA sometime. It would be a 2 hour drive to San Diego and a 4 hrs-5 hrs to LA.
That said, i play mostly Online now, in Super SF4 omg lol, easly 600 hrs played, i got 10k bp with 6 characters. 15k with Gen.
Just recently bought SSF4AE for ps3 and PC, going to mainly play on pc because my ps3 just got YLOD.
Hey guys!
I’m David, 19, and I’m from Scotland. On Xbox Live I go by Bono93, if you’ve ever seen me. I was always into fighting games, but SF4 was the first that I’ve played competitively. I was drawn to Gen because I honestly thought he was dead, and bringing Alpha characters got me interested. However, it was a video that showed Super --> Ultra that got me commited.
I love the way that Gen is the game’s equivalent to a swiss army knife, answer to almost every situation. With the buffs that he’s got now, there’s nowhere else but up for us Gen players. I look forward to helping you help us all!
