Once the gem is activated the timer willl be active no matter what
But it’s not a gem, it’s an option called Quick Combo (which has its own separate menu away from Color Customization and Gem) that takes 1 bar away when used. I really don’t know why anyone gives a fuck about this like it will be used by tournament players or something. And if someone online has to use this instead of being able to chain themselves (because LMH is so hard) and lose a bar of meter each time… if you lose to them don’t blame the mechanic, look @ yourself.
I don’t know why people care what Mr Wizard thinks about this game, if he said your fav movie sucked ass would you snap that bluray in half of something? Learn to think for yourselves.
If you’re worried about it than equip the gem that gives you +30% defense when your opponent activates Pandora mode.
To the person who was asking a few dozen pages back about the Proficiency lv3 Gem (40% Cross Gauge Reduction when you enter Pandora Mode), the reason why you’d want that is because, even though your meter fills up to the max when you’re in Pandora mode, you’re still expending meter when you use EX moves and supers. So you couldn’t do more than three EX moves in one combo in Pandora mode normally; You’d have to stop at the 3 and wait for it to refill. With 40% gauge reduction, moves that cost 1 bar cost 60% of one bar, so you could get off 5 in one combo if you wanted to. Or two EX moves into a super.
Why would I waste a gem slot and a bar of meter for a combo? My controller has buttons on it.
yeah, i guess i was wrong guys. having an auto-combo option for newer players, even if it takes up a bar, is not indicative of a bad design philosophy, especially coming from the famous Capcom who has given us hits like “Street Fighter 4” and “Marvel VS Capcom 3”
After playing the game last night…what i previously posted is out the fucking window as i didnt see a gem customization screen…thus more or less we will use those pre-set gems…if any. we are not going to another menu to make custom gem sets(online there is no problem) offline with multiple players is…
i still believe TO should have all the content available, however until the gem selection for custom set-ups are not done it a more convenient manner then i dont think its necessary
Now MvC3 is terrible but Street Fighter 4 is legit.
Yeah you’re wrong because it means fuck all for any serious player. It’s in the game so non fighting game players can actually feel like they did something instead of getting anally raped online (and being able to hit an auto combo once or twice doesn’t change that much) and than shelving this game and than go back to COD, Skyrim, WoW, TOR or whatever the fuck they play. And a loss of a meter means nothing to them since they’ve never even thought of the concept of meter management (which is going to be important in this game).
From what I’ve seen of the tutorial mode it runs people through all these basic concepts and if they can’t pull them off it recommends the gem or option to be able to do that. So if some COD tosser can’t hit LMHH than Dan tells that wanker to use the auto combo button for that combo or whatever.
This shit has no bearing on high level play, and you know what honestly? I’ll rather he hit me with that stupid cross rush (which leaves massive amounts of grey life) instead of going for a I’m half a screen away from you… but EX SHORYUKEN!!!
Exactly right, I’d rather have people doing crappy combos wasting their meter that they have to pull out properly or get CH’d rather than saving up all 3 bars and getting a lucky Super/Cross Art because I pushed a button at exactly the wrong moment.
Take this situation:
Balrog, throwing out Cr. RH all the time is beneficial against bad players, extremely so, grabbing someone with a simple frame trap into a hard knockdown over and over again is piss easy and works well against morons, given the habits of bad players, they’ll do one of 3 options in the heat of the moment:
Use autocombo gem as their meter drainage: Requires an actual hit, if I frame trap them as they pull it out, I beat them out in the situation.
Guard Cancel: If they can see my blockstring patterns easy enough, they can Guard Cancel and get out easily.
Save up and Super: If they pull it out as I try for a frame trap, they’ll almost always hit, Cross Art takes off about 50% from one character.
I’d much rather have them wasting their meter on a crappy LMHH than keeping me too scared to frame trap.
hey you fucking idiots, i know autocombo has no effect on high level play. do you honestly not understand that the attitude of “give new players a way to automatically be shitty instead of super shitty” instead of something like “a decent tutorial” is indicative of a “healthy” design philosophy?
i really am an idiot for writing even a few lines on a forum that literally exists to be an echo chamber for capcom shills
I think ideally we’d have both- easier combo inputs so the casual gamer isn’t so initially put off by the idea of trying a fighting game with their friends, and a decent tutorial mode a la Skullgirls so they can be taught how to improve their game afterwards. The point is more (I suspect) that in the absence of the latter- because we’re certainly not getting it from a Capcom fighter any time soon- the former’s not a bad thing, because at least some steps are taken to lower a very high barrier of entry (comparatively speaking- that is, it takes a hell of a lot more work to even begin having fun with SF or MVC than a typical RPG or driving game).
It’s not a healthy design philosophy in terms of creating a well-crafted high-level fighting game that breeds intelligent players.
It is a healthy design philosophy in terms of making Capcom lots of money.
I agree with you, I’m just saying. Most casual players (i.e. by far the largest portion of people who will buy the game) don’t want to sit through a complex tutorial, they just want to get in the game and hit buttons as Jin or Ken. Shit like auto-block and auto-combo gems lets them do that and feel like a badass while mashing away.
its good design for getting people hooked. Think poker: scrub going all in on AK hand before the flop. How often does he win? Not that much. But whats the psychological effect? Keeps him hooked.
Is anyone clear regarding the gem pre-orders in the UK? I’m not sure where each gem pack is being offered.
I see Zavvi are offering the Speed gems.
what annoys me is that you have Assist gems for Easy and Super Easy inputs… but the regular inputs still have the retarded shortcuts of SF4
if scrubs want to mash df+P in blockstrings, at least give them the penalty of using a gem slot for Easy inputs… otherwise what’s the point of Easy inputs overall?
Hi gang, I got a question, which pre-order gems packs are good?
Please give me some feed back of which of these shops are you going to order. Thanks
- Amazon “Iron curtain” or

- Gamestop “World warrior” or

- Best buy “Lighten Legs”

ones that aren’t banned at tournaments… oh, wait.
If you don’t know the answer, you don’t have to be a jack ass about it. Thanks
its all preference…if you get the Collectors edition…you get them allo_O so if your interested in gems…just do that
so the collector’s edition does come with all the pre-order gems?
I didn’t know that, I was merely going to get it for the Udon comic and arcade cabinet bank, lol!
I pretty much already have the gems I want to use written down, guess it’ll be cool to have a few more options lay’n’ around.
Really?
It’s a pity that the UK edition is so poor. I can’t see anything about pre-order gems with most retailers either.
