What I want to know, is why are people saying that Mr. Wiz banned gems from EVO.
I like this gem system, and think it will be a lot of fun to mess around with, i probably wont buy dlc gems tough so ihope theres plenty to unlock. and if you and your group dont want to play with the gems then its just to choose not do to so.
HOVEVER there should absolutely be a mode to play without gems too online. i really dont see the point in acting like its the end of the world regarding this gem system. if the system is unpractilcal and ends up not adding anything it wont be used. also everyone seems to be hung up on auto guard and auto tech. but that shit dont come free. it costs a bar. and with so much else to spend meter on is that really what you want to do?
Maybe i’d like it more if Gems provided you with more options ala Grooves/Arcanas, but from what i’ve seen they just seem undo fundamental mistakes.
Capcom have said on numerous occasions how difficult it is to monetise fighting games. DLC costumes were the first attempt, gems is the next step.
a gem that makes pandora last 20 in game seconds…
The first attempt always was to release a retail update, worked to them since SF2 Championship Edition.
So a game is either barebones and good or shitty and loaded with extras?
I think gems could be really fun, as a non competitive mode, trying to think of the best combinations!
Of course, as a competitive mode, it is awful, and just taking another step towards the league of legends model. Street fighter was always been about this : You buy the game, you have what it takes to compete with anyone in the world. Now you need more than the game, you need some strange thing outside the game in order to compete
Maybe they are assuming because it is DLC that isn’t going to be available equally to all players?
Holy Crap people who are hating and not using their heads are definitely from the MvC3 forums. Nothing is known about the Gem system accept for the different types of gem. Autoblock Gem probably blocks for you ONE time on wake up and than it breaks. The crybabies need to :crybaby: less and :blah: less and wait for solid INFO. I’m going to church because they are still using the TGS build .
You know there are preorder gems and special edition gems.
Either they are forever exclusive, pay for it, or unlockable.
45 gems is a lot to be any one of the above.
It comes down to this. Developers need to stop making games easier with whatever extra mechanics they try to add and work harder at making better tutorials to make the players better.
At least Skullgirls is doing this. Hopefully other developers will follow suit.
but but… that makes sense, and this is SRK, and and… we just got small details on a unreleased fighting games new system ugh wahhhhhhh wahhhhhhh if I cant overreact in the most irrational manner and make references like why is the game not Alpha 2, CvS2 blah blah blah and insinuate that I am not buying it eventhough I know I will, what meaning is there to life!!!
Ono has already explained in depth the principles behind the gem system. And he’s very clear that the gem system is designed to be a scrub mechaism.
My vision of a better gem system:
Only Basic, simple gems
Like: 10% extra damage, 10% faster super, 10% More Health, etc (Values need balacing, obvious. This is just example)
Gems would stackable, you could equip the same gem 3 times.
Some gems available only in %, other in absulute value, or some gems available in both.
Example: A gem that gives you 10% more health, and another gem that gives you 100 points extra health.
While Zangief would benefit more with the 10% extra health, Cammy would benefit more with the extra 100 health.
We could stack 3 10% Extra Health Gem, so Zangief could have 33% extra health total.
Gems would stack over the already stacked value. 1200 +10% = 1320; 1320+10% = 1452 +10% = 1597
Let’s suppose cammy has 900 health.
So, two extra 100 health gem; 1100 Health, and a 10% extra health gem, resulting in 1210 health.
Gems would activate by taunting, and after activated, the bonus would be permanent. (I don’t think there is taunting in this game, there is?)
They would be activated in an equip order. You can’t choose which to activate.
To activate all 3 gems, you would need to taunt 3 times.
Of course, all gems in the game would be acquired during single play, like, finishing the game.
Maybe some acquired during multiplayer, but not special requirement, just something like: “Win 10 online matches” "Lose 10 online matches"
Something that everyone could do.
Reversal windows don’t make offense harder. They make offense more deliberate. If you have a brain in your head, huge reversal windows can make offense EASIER, when you bait/safe jump/avoid those reversals like you’re supposed to and get your free punish. Your logic is 2009 logic. It’s 2011. We’re better at this game now.
Wow. I didn’t know people still had problems dealing with this. Maybe it’s not 2011, like I thought…
BTW, for people complaining about auto block. If they just called it “super armor”, people wouldn’t have complained as much. Because, that’s basically what it is. Super armor that costs you meter, doesn’t hit your opponent, and takes up space in your gem collection that could be used by other gens. Oh no! Broken!
Yeah, they described everything except all the gems and how they work. We’re completely informed now!
Just because something can be used by all players, doesn’t make it a scrub mechanic.
And, just because something is designed to have casual appeal doesn’t make it a scrub mechanic.
It’s as if people in the FG community only wants stuff added to the game that can exclusively be used by Mago-level players. That will make the game better, right? Game mechanics that only the top 1% of the planet can use? If beginners gain ANY benefit from it, then it must be bad.

This stuff sounds like it would make for an extremely fun online game as long as the online is good
Why should my opponent get a 10% damage increase because I hit him with two special moves…

Why should my opponent get a 10% damage increase because I hit him with two special moves…
Because they made the tactical decision to set-up that gem among a choice of others, at the opportunity cost of not having some other gem in that slot. The gem, by its very nature, might never activate if you’re doing well, which already somewhat devalues it for competitive players, especially since it’d potentially never overlap with others if you’re doing well, making it a wasted slot that might go to some other gem that synchronizes better. And that’s not to forget that they are eating damage by virtue of how that gem works, so they may already be down a lot of life due to your combos.
Instead a competitive player might go with gems that reward you for actually landing normals or specials, or whatever other reward mechanic they put on other gems.
