I think it’s because people prefer complaining rather than constructive thinking.
I for one, agree with you. I enjoyed putting in all the time and effort to unlock all the characters and stages in Melee, but I really would not want to have to go through all of that again unless I had another back-up file saved.
And I can’t believe that I’m saying this, but I trust Capcom on this one. I’m pretty sure that the Pre-order gems will be available to us in some fashion, even if it means a lot of grinding. You had to “grind” to get all of the characters in Tekken; maybe the Pre-order gems will be unlocked normally to represent that aspect (since I’m guessing that, Street Fighter style, all of the characters will be available from the start and won’t require unlocking). If the grinding’s anything like Melee though, I’m sure we’ll get some complaints from Tourney Organizers, but at least the “pay to win” factor won’t really exist. Maybe “pay to have early advantage,” but still.
Why the hell people would STILL have faith in Capcom? Or even hope that such thing would be possible, given their recent records of activites?
Besides, “locked characters” is something pretty different than Gems - since said characters aren’t broke nor outclass completely others - which is the case of said pre-order Gems.
Chances are that the default gems are the ones being unlocked in the first place.
Not anymore. (and such decision is better for tournament organizers as well).
If Capcom did had any answers regarding that, we would know anything by this point (since the hype is dying, and with reason) - being silent is only making things worse.
“Sigh” Kuma you are one of the smarter people here on SRK…why are talking nonsense now?
why the in the hell would i have the INCENTIVE TO PRE-ORDER THE GAME IF I CAN UNLOCK THIS CONTENT IN THE GAME FREE OF CHARGE. not to come off as a jack ass but be real for a minute.
not once have I pre-ordered a game and its pre-order incentive was some shit i could have unlocked in the game already without having to purchase it online via XBL or PSN. I can completely agree with having Unlockables that is something that games like these desperately need and keep that shit SECRET until after the game is released. what i can not agree with is the idea of having pre-order incentives as unlockable content. I can see why you want it to be that way…it would solve the problem for sure but the reality of the situation is… that it isn’t going to be that easy nor would it make any sense.
even though these pre-order incentives are complete BS i still would not accept that these being natural game unlocks because I would feel cheated…why? because If it was as easy as unlocking these Gems in game from the start then what was the point in even pre-ordering the game? i could have waited…i could have even got the game used…there WAS NO INCENTIVE TO GET THE GAME IS MY POINT.
sure i would have liked better pre-order incentives like those DLC costumes or something on the lines of that but unfortuently there isnt anything like that, im not trying to be a dick but seriously…
@therook
I totally get where you’re coming from. At the same time, WHY is there a pre-order incentive in the first place? If it doesn’t cost you extra to get the pre-order incentives, I just see it as “get it before everyone else” kind of thing unless we’re talking about something like the Pokemon Collisieum bonus where you got a free Jirachi.
I have a hard time believing that the DLC gems are unlockable within the game because a far number of them obsolete the ones in game. If they were striving for a balance within game why would they bother putting a few gems in that put the rest on blast? I’m also annoyed by the extent the 30% ones play out against the in game ones. Hit with 2 combos vs DIE IN 7 SECONDS. Hm. Hm hm hm.
I think another thing that gets to me is, didn’t they say there were 100 gems at the start? Now there’s 75 of which 75% are stat gems and 50% of those are identical? For something the game was ‘built’ around - doesn’t seem very dynamic. I have a feeling they wanted to do something big with this and all the complaining made them back off. So now we’re all stuck with the toothless obvious cash grab. Who knew bitching could be a bad thing?
Oh. Zelda. I’ve heard a lot of good things about that. Can’t wait til I get back to the states and can play that thing. 6 more days!
I think that brings up a good point tho - bickering about gems does detract a bit from, what people are calling, a pretty solid game. I just wish Capcom hadn’t looked at it and said, Namco vs Capcom finally hits? How can we make this amazing once in a lifetime union as sweet as possible?! and then smash bros’d the whole thing when players were probably looking at and saying Tekken Chars? SF Chars? finally together? COOL. I bet they’ll PUNCH each other! No need to mess with whats works IMO. This gem thing woulda gone over way easier if it was like in Power Stone 3 EX: Fighters Edition.
i love how you assume that i don’t~ and im sorry the last few games that i bought didnt do this to me lets see…
Batman Arkham City-Pre-order incentive…a challange map.
Saints Row the Third-Pre oder incentive…professor Genki BS~
even hand held titles like Dissidia 012 had Cloud’s Kingdom Hearts Costume as a Pre-order Incentive…All Which CAN NOT BE UNLOCKED IN THE GAME…EVER you have to download them for a cost or in Square Enix’s example…never.
looks like pre-order incentives are actually…DLC and not early unlock codes…
Edit: @Kuma~ you said that the Pre-order Gems are free anyways right? well in theroy that can be right but in reality it isnt as the reservation is more or less a note to Gamestop or whoever you buying the game from that Im going to buy this game from you…and your paying for the incentive when you put down $5 on a game.
you can look at it another way but for the most part, your paying for it in advance. sure you can be like me and Get Over on the Corporate Assholes and get all the pre-order incentives for free but you will be doing alot of loop holes and alot of returning merchandise to do so…the point is that your paying for your incentive when you reserve your game at your retail outlet.
Actually, Capcom wants it to be more SFIV-2 than we do.
In the start there was no gems and we had an open ended combo system that was looking to show a heavily footsie based game that was focusing on punishing mistakes.
Now, weve got no special moves if you chain (so were back to links…like SFIV) and going to supers for bigger damage (DP FADC Ultra, anybody?)
Plus this gem bullcrap which just looks like some wanna-be DBZ Fighter shit.
Seriously, give me the Comic-Con build of the game. I played it, and it was amazing. this is not the SF x T I was getting hyped for back then.
Can someone explain the difference between these two? Like what did the special moves/chain system from earlier builds entail? And what differentiates that from links?
Youve probably heard of Cross Rush. It LMHH(Launcher)
As it is now, the max combo you can do out of cross rush is just that- 2 cross rushes. For something like 15% damage (maybe) and some meter.
Before though, at any time you could cancel cross rushes into special moves/supers/tag cancels, allowing an more open ended combo system with more freedom, possibilities, set-ups, and fun.
Now we can only add good old SFIV links and get like, 20% damage maybe off of a meaty punish. Off of a random footsie though? maybe a little extra damage if you cancel to a special move but thats it.
The beauty of early SFxT was that, say with Ryu, connected cr.mk=20-45% depending how much meter you wanted to use. He could go cr.mk, st.hk, Launcher, then lets say Ken comes in and does his st.mp, st.hp. Right here, the chain ends in the current build of SFxT. but in the old on, he could cancel st.hp to Tatsu. Thats more damage right there. But wait! Ken could tag cancel his tatsu, which lasts for a while allowing a follow up for ryu with St.Mp, St.Hp to Shoryu, or maybe cancel into super. Or he could even go to HIS tatsu, and tag cancel THAT and then have Ken come in and finish a (heavily scaled) combo, or go for a reset!
Doesn’t that sound more fun that cr.mk xx fireball and LMH(H)LMH(H)?
oh and im sure you know what links are. They’re timing based. Stuff like Ryu cr.mp, cr.mp, sweep. Or Dan st.Hk, st.mp, dan kicks.
well universally Yes the chain combos for everyone is gone, sad but it was their decision. there are still some chain combos(more or less acting like Target Combos now) that still work.
their initial Excuse in changing the system was that it would make the game too simple if you only had to do was A,B,C combos and you could do that universally with everyone…
but if you think about it…wasnt this almost the case for MVC3? humm why the fuck does it matter if they have simple combos, you can expand on it and make your own Bnbs and extented combos…the gave us literally no time to explore that and they changed it to what alot of us are calling it SFIV.5 + Tekken.
im sad to see it go away and i have “faith” that there is still that cool comboablity that I seen in the E3, SDCC 11’ trailers.
