I just don’t see how this game could function in a tournament. I don’t even think it could function in an arcade with the gems. Clearly this game was made specifically to be played online.
If that’s the case can this be the best game Capcom has released with a online that is Far Superior then it’s predecessors.
EDIT:
Hold dat.
But don’t hold your breath.
At first I was pissed off at the gems because Ono straight called it a mechaism to help scrubs and n00bs, but now that I think about it how does the gems help them anyway? They are the ones who wouldn’t have a clue as to which gems to use and those gems are actually an additional barrier that complicates the game and makes it harder for anyone, pro or scrub, to enjoy it. Meanwhile people seem to have forgot how the gems are insignificant in comparision to those Cross Arts/Cross Assault/Pandora/etc that has a lot of issues facing them. Does anyone like me have a feeling that Ono and co have lost the plot and don’t seem to have a clue as to what to do with this game?
He’s saying that because he knows the gem system is a selling point to them, especially in whatever story mode he makes to unlock that shit, casual players love that shit. I’m not exactly happy with the gem system but anyone who thinks some scrub can equip gems and start going even with a top player is stupid as fuck. Why can’t the top player equip these exact same “magic” gems and once again widen the gap? As if these scrubs will know the best gems to choose, it will be the top players who min/max the correct gems for the top tier characters and scrubs like me will follow suit after we see it in tournament and use it without even knowing why they selected those gems.
No matter how many powerful or DLC gems you have. As it was said above it will not help you crush skilled players. Who you had no chance against before. This system is not a great equalizer. That places everyone on the same level. If anything it is insulting to believe that a dedicated and skilled player. Could so easily be crushed in a match. Just by what gems you selected. There probably will be some very effective combinations. But part of fighting games is to figure out. Why something is effective then learn how to counter it.
People seem to imagine that there will be gems. That truly warp the games rules. To allow some one to mash and win vs a top level player. Such a thing would truly be game breaking. Making it pointless to play the game off or online. Regardless if you are a casual player or more dedicated. Capcom dues make foolish choices at times. But they are not so foolish as to go that far. But it would be nice if stat boosting gems went no higher then 15% or where limited to 10%. With a wide selection of activation conditions. But I cannot see there being ways to get a 100% boost as many fear. If there are much more powerful gems. Then it would make scenes that there. Period of activation is much shorter. Then the 10% gems making it more difficult. To have multiple ones active at once. But then again I could just be giving them far to much credit. With the thought they put into that aspect of the system. But it is impossible to tell at the moment.
oh man I heard it all now…congrats
where did u come up with that conclusion ??
Edit-- news flash my man, this game called SFxTK is crafted & created to be nothing like SF4 series…and lol if I was to apply that logic towards most fighters of today moving backwards 10 yrs…do u know how many fighting games could be considered non functional if ur saying the gems cause such a dysfunction in terms of balance & tournament issues that are speculative theories at best… I will stop their bc I dont want to go any farther then that…
Anyways, i get my marching orders about this game from Set Killian a Capcom staff member as u know, who said it best…if you have not seen it here it is:

Another audio only account of Seth Killian doing QnA, he is surprised at the reaction, for players saying the gems are unbalance just does not make sense to him…check it out b4 u jump the gun he said

what if they release a set of gems or the game has a set of gems that make the attacks unblockable, incredibly powerful, with armor and other stuff X)
As Keits has stated. This is simply an extension of what we’ve previously seen with ISMs/Grooves in games like A3 and CvS2.
Heck, most TOs aren’t even worried about the balance (It’s a Capcom game, top tiers will be found and abused and scrubs will cry no matter what they do). It’s the length of time to set them up plus the DLC factor that worries them.
This is far, far more than Grooves. It’s comparable to Custom Grooves maybe, but regular selectable Grooves? Just because it has some things in common doesn’t mean it’s even close to being the same thing. There really isn’t anything like this in any 2D fighting game.
Did you understand what the person you quoted wrote? You’re posting everywhere but nothing you say makes sense.
Yea somewhat similar to the Custom Groove System in CvS2 EO
no doubt.

hahaa
I came up with a great Idea on how Capcom can make Gem picking really fast. So stay with me people because when i explain stuff even I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
Each type of combination should have number depending on how many slots are allowed. Let a computer randomly generate all the possibilities and than make that number permanent for that certain combination. Now all the player have to do is memorize that # and call it a day.
This still doesn’t excuse them for doing DLC gems JERKSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
do u honestly think Capcom has not already thought about this?? And to be Fuc*ing honest if Im in a tournament, or lets say I spent alot to travel across America to attend a SFxTK tourney plus AE & UMvC3 & hotel & food exp. paying between 500 to 1000$ tops depending if its a major or not…money out of my pocket to support these events
If i need a little time to pick my gems, gtfo with ur impatience is how I would feel, I’m sure it will be quick but Im in no rush for anyone and tournament organizers shouldn’t say a damn thing when we pay lots of $$ to attend these events (the majors that is) period
Unfortunately you have 666 in your name so your opionion doesn’t matter to me.:arazz: lol jokes aside every person is gonna have a specific gems they use for that character every battle. So they should memorize the #. If they get their ass handed to them and says F it I wanna try something new be my guess take all the time in the world to counter pick with gems.
sorry i came off strong, like Im a badass or something which i am
lol Im no devil worshiper lol Megiddo means in hebrew Armageddon and 666 means well demon…and akuma is all i use in SF4…what can I say i put some thought into it
i think this gem system will add more options and depth like seth said and then what im saying—> that ur selection can either be a difference maker n a match or a grind but I cant even really agree in saying grind it out in SFxTK, this game looks intense & fast pace
every possible combination? Didn’t they say that was in the millions?
AHH I see i was just making a joke, not trying to offend you. Good thing you understood that lol but you get what I’m saying though right?
 COMPUTER GENERATED… now how long can the possibly take?
(Sorry for double post not sure if I can Edit and add a quote)
Dude I liked ur comment bc ur taking what u understand about the gems (selection process) and removing it far from reality
Lets wait in see i think it will be a smooth selection process, im telling u this game is going to be bonkers…
can u imagine facing a Zangief that activated a timed based gem (takes meter) & activates under specific conditions to boost his speed?..scary thought or an heavy defense gem’ed low tier character that can take hits or vice versa or a player who likes speed / attack power, then counter it with a more defensive based gems or other’s that help or mind f**k him and pick high attack priority gems as well
of course what im saying is very basic conceptual understanding in regards to the gems mechanic’s etc. etc., but i think this will be interesting to see how the gems play out esp. for this type of fighting game
edit—its not just about the gems but the cross gauge gets me excited and the type of team combos in action is eye candy
