ALL you have to say is QQ moar
Yea I am not going to say much but since the system is "forced’ yea. I can see some very overpowered stuff going in the future.
The system better be fine tuned at least.
Online play seems like it is going to be true hell with all gems allowed. Forced Gems, this game for me became a wait and see rather than a must buy tho. Stack DMG gems FTW lol.
The vast majority of consoles used at tournaments are provided by the players.
How do you expect to enforce that?
I feel you. I was going to be the first in line to buy this game. Not say I still won’t becuz I like to create dream teams but more then likely i wont be preordering it on take this game seriously. Which is sad becuz b4 the gems this was about to be my game.
When it comes to gems like Auto Guard. Have been wondering if you could. Use its activation condition against the user. Allowing you to drain there meter, and limit there options. Or at the very least postponing a powerful combo. That they had hoped to use against you. Simply put forcing it to activate on your terms. But it is probably to soon. To talk about counter gem tactics. With so little known about the system at this point. Still it would be troublesome if such gems. Became popular to use as a safety net.
Gem selection it’s self. Could easily become a very tedious process. The only logical solution is a well organized selection menu. Based on more then simply Power, Speed, and so on. Allowing you to quickly find what you need. Rather then simply here are the power gems. So you have to scroll threw a large list. To find that one specific type of power gem you use. A bad selection system. Could easily make this process. As time consuming as people fear it could be or worse.
In the end what we really need is hands on information. From actually using the gem system but. Since SFxT dues not come out until March. They may not be in a hurry. To bring out a build that would allow this. But for peace of mind. Many would probably hope. That Capcom would do this before the end of November. Or at the very least by mid December. Since for now all we can do is speculate.
Yeah, I think it was one of the first things that were said about that gem and it seems it will be mentioned many more times again in this thread as if it was still day 1.
Yeah fuck Mahvel 2, and CvS2.
I totally get why the gem system would make it hard to manage tournaments; potentially ruining the game’s tournament ability.
But on a purely personal level I’m not that concerned with the gems or the fact that I can’t have them all. I never go for the best choice characters anyways and I enjoy the upstream battle. My favorite match-ups in AE is Chun vs. Yun or Yang, because I love beating fools who rely on their characters overpowered-ness to win.
Now I have to spend a round, or a match, before I know how a person plays. The gems will at least give me a hint of what kind of player I’m facing. Is he going for rush-down? Is he a turtle? Is he an exploitative ass-hole picking only the best gems? etc.
So I’m not crying wolf just yet. I’m going to wait until I can gauge the game myself. Sure I’d prefer them to give us an option to exclude gems but I’ll deal with it if I have to.
Edit:
Oh, I just realized that the only think Capcom has to do to resolve this issue is to include a Null gem, i.e. a blank gem that does nothing. Technically this would work with the systems in place while giving the player the ability to opt-out.
Make a list of the default gems. Anyone using something else is in violation of tournament rules.
Problem is that considering the ammount of gems there will be it could be a bit hard to remember what gems can be used and which ones are banned. And checking that in every match all day long.
it would be a problem, but there are usually people watching most matches anyway. A few volunteers could help and besides, most of us pick these games apart.
Within a month people will know exactly what gems are the default ones and which aren’t.
I don’t want to. I like how SFxT currently plays without the Gem System. I like the fact that Cammy is back to her Super SF4 days and given steroids to boot. I like the way that the Tekken roster plays.
Without the Gem System, SFxT could become an incredibly hype game at the highest level. With it, it’s a bit harder to make that distinction.
200 Gems available? I have a feeling that you’re going to be seeing like…80 ATK Gems, 80 Speed Gems and 40 other gems…its not like every Gem is going to be unique or anything…
I have a brilliant solution!
Ban the game!
You dont need to thank me
Yeah. Brilliant…
Everyone saying that “the tournament scene is just a small fraction of the community” and “casuals are the ones they are catering to”, are ignoring the fact that all of that can be maintained while still appeasing the tourny scene by simply giving an option to turn gems off.
I understand that we can just choose to not use them, but it would be nice to have a simple online filter as well, for those who don’t live near tourny hot-spots.
It’s simply idiotic. I mean, why not give us the option? The fact that they’re forcing this down our gullets makes me feel that this is more of a cash scandal than a genuine game mechanic.
I’ll be real. I full intend to buy this game. I’m sure I will have a ton of fun playing it. But unless they come up with some miraculous way of making gem selection fast and pain free, I’d fully support this game just being completely shunned by the tournament scene for titles like Skull Girls (seriously, this game is everything a tourny game should be), KoFXIII, TTT2, UMVC and 2012.
Capcom needs a kick in the ass. We can continue to support them, but they need to realize that they can’t ignore their competitive community. I’m sure if SFxT never saw light at any of the major tournies like Season’s Beatings or EVO, Capcom would surely notice.
Why do you need that option? Just don’t pick Gems…
ok heres a crazy idea if theres no gems
this game would still be boring as hell, seriously who wants to see more ABC launcher? I know it looks flashy, but for the non autists out there you’re eventually gonna get bored of it just like marvel 3. And if you are one of the autistic kids crapcom is targeting, go back to watching the same ultra animations over and over again while yelling hype
If it sells gems well online I dont see why they would bother to focus on the much smaller competetive market compared to the casual one.
And youre right about what you feel and there is no reason to think any higher about the gem system then a way to make a quick buck…or a very consistent buck, that is if the game does well. As for the conflict with tourney set ups…I dont see it, SCIV tournaments ban custom items, so do smash brothers I believe?
I think there is enough depth and other mechanics in the game to make it interesting without custom characters.
Mooglesniperz ; 4chan is that way…
