oh shit. I figured 5 gem slots so 200 a piece that’s 200 to the 5th and then I multiplied that result by 50, the # of assumed characters. I’ve never been good at math but it made sense to me.
But if the # is even higher then that just makes things even worse in way lol.

I am actually excited for the gem system. I think it’s a pretty cool idea. My only hope is that Capcom doesn’t start charging people money for gems, a core mechanic. Or that the “exclusive” gems are either a) not really exclusive or b) they are aesthetic only and give no skills
Finally… awesome. I love how this site has turned into 4 chan / reddit the last couple weeks. Everybody has a sick picture to post.
why do people care about auto blocking? if anything, itll be like Tekken’s auto block where you cant be using a punch or kick in order for it to work, as well as the proper position. that means you could still get unblockables out, depending on how you have them facing, as well as just combo the fuck out of them to force them into a bad situation where blocking is useless. i just dont see it being that huge an advantage unless your trying to play a more projectile game.
Couldn’t auto block also get you out of unblockable setups with the EX cross tag things? I know Seth was talking about those working before, but with an auto block gem, it could block the direction you don’t.
Another thing is how auto block handles multiple hits. If chun busts out the legs will auto block only block the first hit or every hit until I’m out of block stun?
it only blocks 1 attack…they stated that already~ so if its a string they have to hold in the direction of the block to continue blocking. so if its a tag cancel mix up, i’ll use Yoshimitsu and Raven as a example against Ryu(Ryu only has 1 stock)
Yoshi does slap you silly, then tag cancels to raven. at this point Ryu had blocked this normally, when raven comes in and does his low hitting slide. Ryu blocks this and is still at 1 stock. Raven Tag Cancels to Yoshi and he does his overhead flipkick, Ryu does not stand up to block this but Auto Guard kicks in and blocks the overhead for him. this cost 1 stock but he survived a tag cancel assault. in certain situations it can be bad, in others, it can be useful
I think you’re either misunderstanding how the gem works, or you’re the one with the understanding problem. In your scenario, if P2 is deliberately blocking, the gem doesn’t activate. You don’t lose a meter every time you block something.
What would you pick between eating a combo and losing one meter?
Does it matter? If it blocks the first hit, it shouldn’t be too hard to just hold back or down-back to block the rest of them. Hitpause means you’ll get the chance unless the move hits really really really fast.
Again, does this matter? Whether it’s intended for a novice or veteran, what matters is how strong the effect is. That’s all.
An interesting built-in feature for various fighting game characters that originates from the Street Fighter series. Moves with autoguard have a specific set of animation frames, during which any move that comes in contact with the character is automatically blocked: this is different from regular move invincibility in thatautoguard usually nullifies any move that comes in contact with it during its duration by blocking it and thus renders it harmless, while moves with invincibility might run out of invincibility while the attack is still able to connect with the character, causing the character to get hit regardless.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of the Gems, but at the end of the day, I would rather play SFxT than Ultimate Marvel 3.
Real talk Ono, instead of hustling us like some Yu-Gi-Oh/Magic players, try sticking with Alternate Costume DLC or why not, “DLC Characters.” You know, to avoid the inevitable “Super SFxT” shenanigans.
The only way I would accept DLC Gems is if there was an USB port thingy that’s synced with your controller to put in to read you-- gah, fuck it! GEM DLC is stupid as shit! C’mon Ono, goddammit! Troll us on Twitter and Cons! NOT in our games! Disappointing me, son! This isn’t Marvel 3! You don’t have to throw random shit in it, in order to make barely decent!
Sigh… we should’ve seen it coming… the nigga was talking about how he always wanted to have “customizable” Street Fighter characters and shit… :shake:
Dude, the games he posted have an easy mode where the game blocks automatically for you. We’re not talking about auto vs free guard. We’re talking about modes where the game literally blocks for you automatically.
it seems you didn’t understand it after all. frame traps and baits don’t consume any meter since the auto block gem will not work in these cases. mixup to a degree (if it means high/low/crossup game).
please go ahead but it would be pointless. other then sf4 there is no other game that shares any similarities to sfxt in terms of fighting design / gameplay. and there, I the gem would be absolutley broken.
also, auto guard != auto guard gem. big difference.
No matter what happens when the game comes out (gems get banned or not get banned at tournaments) I’m pretty confident that in one of the first big updates of the game they’re gonna add a gem-free mode.
Right now they just want us to see the gem system as a core mechanic to ensure as many of us as possible buy the CE and other DLC gems.
