The FPS (DOOM, etc) Thread

I didn’t play all weekend. I’m on that mission now. Gonna try and get some time after work today.

I think the runes I use are Saving Throw, Fast Gory Kills, and the one that gives you more Armor with the Flame Belch, which I’m using a lot more now and didn’t realize how useful it really was, even in crazy situations.

Also, I’m going to remap the “Switch Equipment” from the D-Pad to L3. It’s too hard to take your thumb off the left stick when you need to make the swap… I was focussing so much on upgrading one or the other because of it, but why not use both?

I do think the Frag Grenade is more powerful though. The Ice Bomb is a nice “breather” tool, but the Grenade does a lot of damage when it’s fully upgraded.

Yeah… If I ever do a UN run, I’m skipping Slayer Gates

Edit Lmao, the one on Mars Core is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen.

All it does is slightly slow down your reticle when it passes over a target. It won’t snap onto a target or pull your aim all over.

I have no idea how you’re playing controller with it off.

The only problem I’ve had over the years with aim assist is in multiplayer games online where you’ll be trying to drag onto one target and the guy behind him darts out and pulls your aim away.

The aim assist in doom isn’t that strong. I think it can only enhance your experience if you’ve been playing without it.

Thanks Mike! That sounds quite handy and let’s me have a bit higher sensitivity to allow for quick looks and turns, without necessarily sacrificing precision.

I’ll try that.

Also i hope that marauder dude isn’t a regularly occurring enemy. I have no idea how you’d manage him plus more big demons

He just wasn’t fun and I don’t really want to fight another one. I’m dreading the next time one shows up in fact. I hope the BFG works on him. I will not hesitate to pop 2 cells to get him off the map.

Also, I’ve now had a second instance of an arena not marking complete.

This one was weird. As soon as I beat the last big body, it said Demonic Corruption was 10/10 (last arena of the nap) and I got a Weapon Point.

Then I noticed some zombie left in the arena and he was acting funny (as if he didn’t see me). I killed him and noticed shortly afterwards (while still in the arena) that it was still red on the map. My demonic correction went down to 9/10, but I still had the weapon point. I tried to Load Checkpoint but it brought me back to after the arena (because I got a checkpoint when I got beat it and got the point). I tried to Fast Travel earlier as well, hoping maybe there’d be some zombie lurking around, but there wasn’t.

So, I have to replay the map in Mission Select, just to 100% the map, even though I got the Weapon Point for it.

Apparently it doesn’t work on him, but if you shoot it over his head, he turns around to shield it and you can Super Shotgun/Ballista him in his back.

The worst part about him is his dog, IMO. I absolutely hate that thing.

Thats super gay. I’m gonna hate these dudes forever lol.

Yea the dog is hella annoying. The bite marks on my screen do not help.

Took me my second time through the second level to realize the green ghost dog is one of those Sentinel Dogs just uncorrupted. Kind a cool detail that makes the annoying as fuck orange ones a little cooler lore wise anyway.

I’m not sure about the main campaign yet, but you guys are going to hate the next Slayer Gate…

Haha yeah, I recently fought the Marauder too. I see what everyone is talking about, I feel like when he shows up with other demons that I’ll have to pepper him here & there while keeping my health and armor up by fighting the other demons.

He feels like an enemy you’d fight in a raw action game or Souls even honestly.

Got a ways into the final level and the game crashed straight to desktop right in the middle of an intense firefight!!!
  :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

This is the second time that this has happened within a few days.

I hit the button to an elevator and I got stuck in the wall while the elevator went up without me.

That’s the worst thing that’s happened so far, I reloaded my checkpoint and I lost like > 30 seconds of progress if that.

Been watching a full playthrough and I see what you guys are saying about Marauders. The counter seems really inconsistent. There will be times he gets the shot dead center and no stagger. And the range difference between his shotgun and slash wave seems like it has overlap at mid range even though the game says to stay at that range. And it doesn’t seem like you can dodge the slash wave in reaction that closely. And if you hit his shield too close to him the reflect shots hit you, like wtf lol.

Just seems like an annoying enemy type. All the problems of western melee games with shitty tells and shitty animations. His fucking sidestep thing looks so fucking bad it’s ridiculous. It almost feels like it’s not even the same people that animated the rest of the game.

Ran thru that lvl just last night and man it was like the movie The Raid running up those lvls. Now stuck on the Axe dude and i want to chuck him off a star port ><

Lol, I’m normally good with giving a quick check on the map for items before leaving an area, but I was so hype jumping between buildings and shit that I missed so many clearly labelled items

He’s hard, but I do feel you get better as you go. I did better against him in the following Slayer Gate.

I threw a lot of fully upgraded Frag Grenades which sometimes made him stumble or turn his back, plus it would wreck his dog. I used the Plasma Rifle with the heat blast to get health from the fodder… Funny enough, it was actually a heat blast that killed him when he was nearby and I was panicking.

I heard a good strategy is to use the regular shotgun with Sticky Bombs (as opposed to Frag Grenades) and put them at his feet or behind him, and use the Ballista to hit him. Haven’t tried it yet though, but I do think the Ballista does more damage… eats ammo though.

Curious what you guys are mainly using weapon wise?

Any mods you heavily rely on?

I’m using Combat Shotgun w/ Sticky Bombs and Plasma Rifle w/ Heat Blast for 90% of my fights, with a healthy dose of upgraded Frags and the Flame Belch.

I use a Ballista (sometimes raw, sometimes with the Arbalest mod) if I want to kill a big guy quickly (hi Pain Elementals), and a Heavy Cannon to snipe a weak point before hopping in an arena.

Other than that, I only use the Heavy Cannon, Chaingun, and Rocket Launcher in a pinch. A targeted Rocket launcher is good against the Doom Hunter once he’s off his base (as long as he’s in the open).

I end up using everything depending on the enemy but i default to super shotgun for big demons and rifle for trash if there’s no clear weakness

Gonna try that sticky bomb strat tho

Ok so with the marauder in the slayer gate i BFGed the room so we could duel. Mixed in sticky bombs with rocket splash damage and it took a while but was way easier than trying to dbl barrel him playing footsies

That room is ridiculous btw. I’ll leave it at that.
