I bought Eternal on PC, but if it runs on Switch even remotely decently; Iām day juaning it.
ARC Complex is an awesome level. Honestly, may just be my favourite FPS level ever.
You canāt play the classic stages with modern Doomslayer/enemies, etc, but you can play Doom 1 and 2 in Eternal by going to the old computer in the Fortress of Doom.
For Doom 1, you need all 14 Cheat Code Floppy Disks (found in secret locations around the levels) and for Doom 2, you apparently, type in āFLYNNTAGGARTā into the computer.
The idea of Doomslayer playing Doom 1 and 2 is funny to me.
So heās actually at a console playing them? Fucking bad ass
Thatās cool they included those Easter eggs. I fucking loved discovering those retro secrets in 2016.
God damn, I canāt wait for my copy to get here so I can join in the fun.
HYPE.
I think Iām going to notch the difficulty down to HMP for the rest of this first run. Itās taking me like 2.5-4 hours to beat a map on UV for PS4 lol.
Iām having a great time, but I donāt plan on quitting after I beat the game once. Iām going to beat this campaign dozens of times, refining upgrade and strategies along the way, while increasing the difficulty to get ready for an eventual Nightmare run.
Right now, the licking Iām taking is honestly just postponing that run, and making it seem like itād be impossible. I just need to rip and tear and build confidence and get better strategies from the ground up.
Also, my eyes are completely bloodshot from intensely staring at my TV for so long, lol. I need to lower to HMP just for my damn health.
I beat 2016 on UV on my first run, and it was pretty challenging but really fun.
How does Eternal compare as far as difficulty goes? Iām thinking I want to go with UV, but if itās that much more difficult I may go with HMP, too.
Iām finding Eternal to be easier.
Your toolkit in Eternal is pretty overpowered compared to 2016.
Playing on Nightmare.
To be honest, I wasnāt going into a lot of arena fights prepared, and it wasnāt until the 4th map where I started feeling comfortable with how to handle a hard arena. I actually do think the base game is a bit easier than 2016 once you get the hang of it,
That said, the Slayer Gates, something like the Rune Challenges of 2016 (but harder IMO) are where Iām really getting killed. Theyāre taking the most time for me to beat.
I should also note that Iām playing on PS4 and I have always struggled with a pad in shooting games, though it seems a bit better in this one.
Actually the main thing imo that helps is the number of weak enemies. The zombies and soldiers and imps.
It feels that there are quite a few more than in 2016.
So as I said, it allows you to chain glory kills often for health replenishment compared to 2016.
As well as better mobilty.
Yeah, thatās something I only started to realize lol. I used to treat them as an annoyance, now I realize theyāre a resource
Not sure I will get hate for this but whatevs.
I kinda prefer ammo pick ups more compared to chainsaw use to replenish it.
Yea it looks cool but Doom does not feel like the type of game where you need to conserve ammo.
Donāt mistake this for me wanting to spray endless with all my guns but the chainsaw kinda feels a bit gimmicky.
I honestly kind of agree. The lower ammo capacity is kind of annoying and has me leaving enemies on the map just so I can reload my guns. Turrning my back on really dangerous targets so i can run around the arena looking for an Imp to reload off of. Itās a little silly. Kinda like bigger ammo pick up and large ammo capacity better.
I respect them for trying something new tho, and itās not bad itās just different and rubs against my preferences it seems.
Iām still plugging along on UV. What helped is i had to turn the horizontal sensitivity down. Default is kind of ridiculous for the lack of really strong aim assist.
I get this from playing competitive controller fps games trying to snipe. It may sound simple but analyze why youre missing shots. If youre consistently in front of the target as you strafe it means the sensitivity is too high for you. If youre behind and it seems like you cant catch up to targets then thats when you need to go higher.
Also use the rune that lets you slow time when you use alt fire in the air. That really helps hitting weak points
Shits still hard but now the difficulty is coming from those damn buff totems turning enemies into crack heads.
Yea that slowmo Rune is a god send. Anarachnatron turrets arenāt even an issue anymore.
Especially if you take all the upgrades.
That shitā¦and that punk bitch of a demon, Archaville gives me hell!!
Iām playing on HMP and just about done in Khan Maykr section
Thanks Mike, I edited this comment a bit, but you made me really re-examine all of my settings.
I realized the Look Smoothing setting seems to slow down the initial movement of the right stick. Either that or it makes the deadzone larger.
After turning this completely to 0, I noticed that I was previously hammering on the stick because I kinda had to. Now itās easier to use subtle movements for precision aiming, medium jerks for twitches, and larger sweeps for turning. It actually made me up my sensitivity a bit. Right now, Iām at 50, but will see if I need to fine-tune it further.
Also, I guess youāe using an aim assist? I turned it off because Iām stubborn lol.
How does it work? Does it sort of pull your aiming in a direction, or do your shots just go a little off-center if youāre off?
I purposely donāt use that slowdown rune because it seems like it would make things too easy. I donāt know, turning into Max Payne in the air with bullet time doesnāt seem like itād feel right.
Imma play some more today, I didnāt touch it yesterday. Iām at the level after the part where you nuke the āBIGGEST GORENEST IN DA WURLD.ā
