The FPS (DOOM, etc) Thread

Nah man for real.

I think the weapon and toolkit you have in Eternal is kinda op compared to 2016.

Normal shotgun bomb is stupid good.

I’m not that deep in the game yet cause i’ve been playing Conan Exiles with a friend but it really feels easier then 2016 until now.

Question for those who beat Cultist Base...

Was there a section near the beginning (where the guillotine trap is), where even after the big fight (three Macubi (?)), the double swords on the map were still red and you didn’t get full killing rewards?

I’m sure I killed everything but I noticed later (after I left) that those swords were still red. I was expecting to maybe get teleported back there for another fight, but that never happened.

I’ll go back once I get back to the Fortress of Doom, but just curious (also, I really hope I don’t have to replay the whole level to kill all the guys. I hope it remembers who I already killed).

Edit to add: the game did remember who I killed so I didn’t have to redo the whole map. I must have left a possessed behind or something.

I’m curious, in 2016 did you swap weapons a lot or were you pretty much a one weapon dude?

I really struggled at the beginning because of all of the weapon swaps and things to keep an eye on (different things charging, etc).

Now I’m getting the hang of it though, and actually, yeah, I think may be a bit easier. I feel like I’m doing better on UV on my first run than I did in 2016.

You’re still a madman for playing on NM in your first run though.

Glad that I’d gotten off of the game minutes ago, thunderstorms are rolling through my part of Texas and the power flickered off for a second.

That’s excellent! Mine comes Tuesday :facepunch:

Question for those who have it:

Does DOOM Eternal have those secret retro rooms that take you back to portions of the original games with old school graphics like DOOM 2016 does?

I haven’t found any.

Not that I know of, but you can unlock OSTs from past ID games, they are keep/displayed on your ship with metal looking album covers. There also the mini figures to collect again.

There are hidden challenge rooms, they don’t have old school graphics. But they are inspired by past Doom and Quake Maps.

The Multiplayer supposed to be closer to what Quake had.

Question about the Fortress of Doom (slight spoiler)

In the Fortress of Doom, it seems like you can get a few different suits in the battery cells (as well as Sentinel Crystals, Weapon Mods, etc).

Has anyone bought any of these suits yet, and was there any benefit to using them (other than aesthetics)?

Yeah, I kind of agree for the most part. Nothing will beat the mastered Double Barrel from 2016 though, that thing nuked every single enemy type in the game. 2 shots without having to reload=goodbye Irene. That is gone in the new one I’m pretty sure, though I haven’t mastered it just yet.

I think what makes it easier though, is that even though you feel squishier is that you have literal lives to fall back on+you can force armor pickups and when that one melee move is charged up that’s a bit of free health too without needing a glory kill.

I haven’t seen any either, but if you explore the DOOMcave a bit you can find a room where you can seemingly play the entirety of the original DOOM. It seems that way anyway.

There is no traditional MP. It’s some weird 2v1 shit, I don’t even know what it is exactly but modes like Deathmatch are gone completely.

This is the first game since DOOM 64 that doesn’t have any kind of online multiplayer. I thought the MP in 2016 was terrible but…I’d have liked to see what they could have done to improve it. I imagine with the mobility+skills we have that it’d be super fun to play in a Deathmatch without weapon loadouts. Oh well, maybe I’ll actual try Quake Champions one of these days.

Sry for the late reply.

In 2016 I pretty much used the super shotgun on a lot of enemies while saving the rocket launcher, gauss cannon for heavy armoured demons.

I actually started to use the rocket launcher a bit late in the game when I unlocked a few perks because of it’s splash damage.

Yea I know nightmare on 1st run a bit crazy but i’m a Juri player. It comes with the package.

Anyone know if there is a way to travel to the Fortress of Doom without beating a stage? Like a mission quit or something?

I didn’t realize how strong a fully upgraded Frag Grenade was. I spent a lot of points upgrading the Ice Bomb (refills faster and allows for more damage upgrades).

Which have you guys been upgrading/using more of?

Im on this part right now. Strongly considering dropping to hurt me plenty lol.

Im good until the 3 spider demons show up

Edit- just got past it. After this mission i think im going back to the first 2 missions to make sure i got all the upgrades lol

I have been spending points on faster weapon switching, hazard protection and having the explosive barrels drop ammo. I do plan to get scatter bombs next.

I did exploration completely first. Makes sure you don’t skip upgrades

I fully upgraded the Frag Grenade. If you kill an enemy with it, it queefs out like 5+ additional grenades which do damage AND stagger enemies. It’s great.

I went with extra speed after a Glory Kill(which feels great) faster weapon switching, and better movement while in the air. Speedy Gonzales. :sunglasses:

I found out why I couldn’t find it, it completely didn’t exist because I had Cheat Codes active in the Mission Select section. I figured because I had returned to the campaign (which doesn’t use them) that it would nullify it, but it doesn’t seem it did.

So guys, make sure you disable cheat codes from the Mission Select before you start playing the Campaign again.
