Dang, my copy won’t get here until Tuesday
Guess I’m gonna have to beat Sekiro this weekend.
My copy is locked in. Immediately jacked up the quality to Ultra-Nightmare settings … and exited out. I’ll play some in the morning.
That isn’t a bad side effect
I double dipped on STEAM and PS4 because I was hype for this game. I just got through the first level, and so far I have to say:
GAME STATUS = FUCKING DELIVERING
The amount of love and polish that went into this game has really impressed me so far.
I kinda feel the opposite. They made their fast and simple gameplay loop convoluted and complicated, and theres so many weapons and cool down bars and upgrade menus and jesus its like 10x everything and some of these fights they just keep fucking spawning endlessly. Also I keep getting hung on the environment something that never happened in DOOM 2016.
I’m still having a blast tho.
FInished the first level and now I’m turning in for the night…
Ma’an…id Software fucking delivered the hype!!
Only had 30 mins to play this morning before work and am still on the first level (took some time to settle on PS4 controls and other settings).
I’m loving it so far. The first level has so much more detail in it than anything from 2016, and the gameplay is fun.
I have to get used to the ammo/use of chainsaw. In the classic DOOM games and in 2016, I could pretty much just use one of the shotguns and blast my way through the whole game, while using specific weapons for specific enemies. Here, because the ammo is so sparse, or rather, the capacity per gun is so low, I really have to use my chainsaw often, as well as switch weapons more than I normally would. I think I’ll come to like it eventually (like how the breakable weapons in Zelda BOTW threw me off at first, but then I came to like it), but it’s an adjustment/change that I wasn’t expecting.
I also haven’t gotten the dash or flamethrower yet, or the blood punch (which apparently is a powerful melee attack to use against weaker enemies), so that will likely change my view about the gameplay as well, for better or worse.
I don’t like the big green question mark for the doll collectables though. It’s way too noticeable. With that said, I missed a secret shortly after killing the first Priest, and I can’t seem to get back up there, so there’s that.
Also, three different times so far, I’ve walked into a new area and have stumbled on enemy infighting (particularly between soldiers and imps), but they don’t seem to be doing any damage to each other. I’m hoping these are just kind of scenarios to make you aware there are guys there, and they’re programmed to not hurt each other, because if they turned off damage from infighting, like during an actual fight, that would annoy me. I used to love running around in circles to get these guys to start killing each other.
There is no real in fighting. It’s scripted and yes they take no damage.
That sucks.
Seeing their life size Nightmare from Soul Cal in person at Evo 2018 was awesome
This game is super dope, but I feel like I’m playing the 3rd game in a trilogy and somehow missed the second one. I have so many questions. The fuck happened between DOOM 2016 and Eternal? How did I get off Mars? How did I get a fucking SPACE FORTRESS!?! Why is the game starting like I’m already in the middle of the game?
I’m so confused…maybe if I rip and tear some more one of these Demons will fill me in.
Lol, this is a very good point. To be honest, while none of us are playing Doom for the story, Eternal hasn’t pulled me in, story-wise, as quickly as 2016 did.
Gameplay wise though (weapons, levels, enemies, etc), everything is a noticeable upgrade, and I’m having a great time.
I’m replaying Doom 64 before I jump into this.
Never beat the original as a kid, I used cheat codes to get to the final level and beat it.
but I do remember the hefty price tag $79.99 for the cartridge version back in the day.
Carts are hella expensive compared to CDs/DVD
