I remember they pit CS:GO pro console* players with pads against PC players with KB&M, and it was basically 1:1 everytime.
I hate that there’s this notion that you’re playing with a disadvantage if you’re on pad VS KB&M, and I say this as someone who plays FPS on both platforms. It’s literally the same thing with pad VS Stick in fighters. Literally some of the top players right now are dudes like SanicFox and SMUG, and they literally use PS4 pad(though maybe modded to have the D-pad suck less ass compared to the DS3) and they mop up shop. SMUG was doing insane combos with Dudley back in SFIV when that shit was actually difficult too.
I’m not saying it can’t be done, but using a mouse to aim/look/turn has always been a lot more comfortable and intuitive for me. I realize not everyone’s the same though, and I will get better with practice.
You are at a slight disadvantage in this game though, because of the quickswitch technique and the inability to do that with any gun, whenever you want, on pad.
It’s not a major hinderance though. You can weapon-wheel swap on the fly pretty quickly if you work on it (this video proves it), and on my nightmare run, I realized that you only really need that quickswap technique against the Marauder, which you can do on pad once you queues SSG + Ballista. I think i’m having more success against heavies/super heavies with locked on rockets or the mobile turret from a far, than the SSG/Ballista combo closer up.
I do mostly run around with SSG/Ballista queued up though, and only weapon wheel to a new one when needed.
I know, I’ve been dropping at least 3 hours a day on this game since March 20th. I also can’t play bass guitar, which is my fallback hobby… I kinda don’t know what to do with myself haha
Just beat Khan Maykr. Holy shit the whole of Urdack level is insanely good. For the Khan Mayker fight I torched her shield with lock-on rockets and then meathooked her for the Blood Punch. I though some of the battles within the level were more difficult than the boss fight, but it was defiantly the most fun boss fight.
I think I have one more level left, yeah? I found every collectible so far, but I have a bunch of secret encounters to go back and do on the last few levels.
Yeah, there’s one fight in particular, I think it’s right before activating the third teleported, that to me, is one of the hardest fights in the game.
And yes, you’re now on the last and best level, imo.
The official Dualshock 4 back button attachment was sold out everywhere and marked up ludicrously on Amazon so I got the strike pack FPS dominator. Gonna take me a bit to get used to but I’ll let you know how it feels and whether it’s worth it for pad players.
I’ve never felt the urge to get back buttons until now either, but man is Eternal making it feel like I really need it to play optimally. Right now with the back button attachment my control scheme is setup so that I only ever take my right thumb off the stick to chainsaw, melee or bring out the crucible, which I can live with. Everything else I can do with both thumbs on both sticks.
The only exception is swapping mods but I never do that anyway.
That’s nice. I realized with a back button mod, not onlywould jump and dash be more convenient, but I can also use L1 and L3 for other functions (like flame belch and change grenades).
Had a few hours with it, still awkward for me as I’ve never really used my middle fingers this way on a controller ever before.
I’m noticing the way I’m playing is changing, I’m not kiting as much and choosing to be more proactive in picking targets on the fly.
Since my weapon switch button was a face button before I’d wait for a good opportunity to stop and focus a target for a couple seconds then move on, but now I’m able to switch while moving and aiming so I’m attacking while on the move.
Still gonna take me much longer to fully get the hang of but I’m already seeing benefits in terms of how much more openly I’m able to play. There’ve been a couple of encounters where I could have sworn I had a lot more trouble with before end up being a lot more manageable just because I’m not having to pick my spots as much.
I don’t think I even lost 1 life fightinh him, but I definitely did in some of the firefights leading up to him.
The boss fight is a culmination of everything the game taught you up to that point. Keep moving. Glory kill when you’re on low health. Flame Belch for armor, Chainsaw lesser demons for ammo. Stick and move.
The infinite rocket secondary fire from the Chaingun(forget the name, Railgun?) wrecks him and the 2nd last boss.
There’s quite a few BFG and crucible drops. Use them, but try to enter the boss fight with 2 BFG shots, you don’t need any crucible blades though (the last arena is littered with them and they respawn).
