Play 3, it’s different but good.
Doom 3 starts a bit slow but it’s expansion Resurrection of Evil puts you in the action faster if that’s what you’re looking for.
I recommend both.

If you get Doom 3, get Doom 3 BFG edition, it has the Resurrection of Evil DLC, some tweaks, bug fixes and quality if life fixes, and Doom 1 and Doom 2.
It would be cool if you could chainsaw any staggered demon for 1 chainsaw fuel. Doesn’t make sense for it to cost the full 3 at that point if you really need the ammo. Just an option to keep the flow going rather than basically HAVING to try to find the smaller guys in the middle of a big fight.
Yeah, I was thinking this too. Their body is usually chopped to shit anyway by then, so less stuff to cut, lol
I hated Doom 3 when it released. I’ll never touch it again.
I don’t hate DOOM 3 but it certainly wasn’t what I wanted from a DOOM game.
I actually enjoyed it, but that’s likely because I love horror movies and started playing it at like 10pm one night into the early hours of the morning. Had I not died and had to go back to the start, I would’ve kept chugging along.
I’ll definitely pick it up, but it’ll be more of a “play past midnights on Saturday night” than a “play early Sunday morning” thing.
Doom 3 was legit pretty scary to me for the first bit of the game when it came out. Having some weak weapons and having to switch to a flashlight for “light management” was kind of cool.
Anyone here dabble in the Photo mode yet?
This was taken from it. May make it my PS4 wallpaper to be honest.
I made it though the Cultist Base last night. I ended up dialing it down to Hurt Me Plenty, as I was dying way too fucking much. And the difference is definitely noticeable. I was able to get through the Slayer Gate on my first try, though I did spend a few lives on the little challenge room after the jumping pillars, even on HMP.
I feel like a pussy Especially after getting through 2016 on UV.
But I’m having way less frustration and more fun. And my videogame playtime is going to be significantly reduced when my daughter is born, so I might have to rethink my philosophy on difficulty vs time to complete games moving forward.
The upside is if playing on a lesser difficulty let’s you beat it twice as fast, and you have time, then you can beat it twice!
When I’m done this run, I think I’m going to do a run with focussing on the Heavy Cannon/Precision Bolt and Ballista. I really need to work on my aiming.
I’ll definitely have to make some concessions, and likely play on the easiest setting, but it should be a good exercise for me.
I really didn’t have much trouble with 2016 on UV either, but the amount of keys you have to push on UV in this one coupled with the severe lack of ammo + every other enemy being a bullet sponge has really left me running low on bullets the entire game. I am hoping the upgrades make it a little better on a future play through.
Finally beat this game.I was on the last 3-4 levels today and thought I would knock it out in 3-4 hours before noon, ended up repeating levels and ended up playing the whole day. Great Game! I did have to adjust the difficulty down here and there when I hardly had any extra lives, and I think it got a little too crazy towards the end. Had some trouble with the boss in chapter 12. Nevertheless, definitely a game changing game for this era!
There’s a photo mode???
Yeah, there’s an option in the settings to enable it. It can only be used during Mission Select though.
Also, I think it says it’s in beta, but I haven’t seen anyone have any issues with it.
I’ve been going through the mission select to unlock all the secrets I missed. I’ll keep that in mind.
Just finished the Taras Nabad slayer gate on nightmare difficulty on my 2nd try… WHAT A FUCKING RUSH I AM A GOD.
Lol, just I beat the Mars Core Slayer Gate on UV on my first try. I spent about an hour on it on HMP in my first run through.
I love how you can actually get better at this game.
That Quick-Swap technique is so strong. This game is ridiculous.
Now start getting the hang of throwing frags out DURING quick switch and watch bitches evaporate.
I used to think enemies were spongy. NOPE. Not if you’re using all the tools available to you, quick switch, frags, flame belch, blood punch. Comboing them all together just explodes demons and showers you in health and armor.
