The FPS (DOOM, etc) Thread

Thanks Mike! And yeah, that hooded figure is definitely Hayden. I’m convinced of it.

I used to think enemies were too spongy at higher difficulties, but that was before I learned to not be conservative with grenades. You’re supposed to spam them shits along with flame belch on every cooldown, the stagger from frag grenades are exceptional.

Oh yeah, and quick switching… that shit is mandatory.

I’m completely stuck in Mars Core. I’m in this underground area where a pain elemental is supposed to appear, once you kill it the doors open. After I re-spawned, there is no pain elemental so the door is stuck LOL.Tried exiting and reloading the campaign, it doesn’t solve the issue.

Damn bro, that sucks. I don’t remember the area, but do you remember if it came through the door and then the door closed behind it? If so, maybe it’s stuck behind the door too and blasting it with a rocket launcher a bunch of times will get it? Just random thoughts.

Also, I’m also getting a huge appreciate for locked-on rockets against heavies and up. It eats through ammo, but fucks them up quickly, and I only use it on them so who cares.

I’m back on DOOM now, I’m pretty much done with MHW stuff.
Grabbing collectables and unlocking the 3 Slayer gates that I had missed.

I’m also going back to try and finish those last levels without the Sentinel armor buff.

Then try some of the harder difficulties…except ultra-nightmare because…F@%$ no!!

I really want to try UN at one point, but I’m only going to bother if I can run through Nightmare with dying less than 5 times or so…

Doubt I’ll get there, lol, but I do notice I get slightly better every time I play another campaign.

If I ever do try, I’m skipping Slayer gates and some of the Secret Encounters though. Fuck that shit.

Nah I think it’s the last enemy to spawn, for me it spawned outdoors and then I fell off and when I came back up, it wasn’t there. When rewatching other playthroughs, it would spawn indoors. I’ll just attempt to restart the mission from the very beginning and see how it goes.

Icon of Sin defeated. That stage was pretty fun. One of the best ones in fact. Games a lot of fun but has some flaws I think hold it back a bit but still an absolutly amazing game, so very fast and fun.

I wish there was a convenient way to replay slayer gates you’ve beaten, like if there was an option in the ripatorium.

I was thinking that too.

I was also thinking of adding leaderboards to them with fastest times across the various difficulties (BFG/UnMaykr and Crucible wouldn’t be allowed). I’d definitely throw a good chunk of time there.

Yeah, that stage may be favourite, which is great because it makes me want to play numerous campaigns again.

2016 really fell off in the last two or so levels to me. I still played many campaigns but I think Eternal will get a few more.

Speaking of 2016, I’ve heard that there’s a surge of people playing Deathmatch in it again (I guess everyone’s back to playing Doom but want to play Deathmatch as opposed to Battle Mode).

Honestly, I may install 2016 again, lol. I’ve been craving a deathmatch too, and was going to download COD Warzone, but I’d much rather play Doom.

I haven’t tried Battle Mode yet, but I’d rather play Slayer vs Slayer. Also, I still suck and don’t want to stink up the game since there’s only 3 of us. 10 idiots running around a room with rocket launchers is definitely something I can just hop right into though.

Does anyone mind answering some questions about quick switching?

I posted these on Reddit as well, but would like more opinions if possible. It’s a pretty long questionnaire, lol, but it feels pretty foreign to me on a DS4 pad so it’ll help me to know when/how I should be using it.

  1. It’s mainly just switching between the primarily fire of the SSG, Ballista, and maybe Rocket Launcher right?

  2. Do you only really use the Rocket Launcher with this if you haven’t gotten the Ballista yet, or if you’re low on ammo on one of the other guns? From what I understand the Rocket Launcher does less DPS than the other two and is also more dangerous to you.

  3. Before acquiring the SSG and the Rocket Launcher, are there any weapons worth doing this with, or do you pretty much have to tough it out until you get both of them?

  4. Do you only use this against Heavies/Super Heavies (Hell Knights, Arachnotrons, Mancubi, Tyrants, Marauder, etc)?

  5. Are there times that other weapons would be better (ie, Mobile Turret or locked-on Rockets) against the Heavies/Super Heavies?

I’m still just getting the hang of quick switching myself but I’ll answer with my perspective

  1. Primary SSG and Ballista only.
  2. Rocket launcher isn’t worth using for quick switching, travel time + splash damage on the rockets means you need to do it far away and if you’re doing it far it means you’re not getting good damage out of the SSG.
  3. No other weapons really, SSG and Ballista is it.
  4. Yes essentially.
  5. Rocket launcher auto lock-on for far off big threats and minigun mobile turret for clean up.

Awesome! That makes a lot of sense! Thanks Mowr!

Yeah, it’s certainly djent inspired. Itks like a mixture of djent, metal, and some sort of electronic genre. To be honest, this isn’t usually something i’d be into, but I’ve really been digging this OST.

I’ve been listening to it as I work and when I go out for walks. The 2016 OST didn’t do much for me, but I’m going to give it another shot.

I listen to a few tracks on my commute to work. Rip and tear and then deal with Covid-19 bs all day.

Playing back thru OG Doom. I don’t remember most of this shit but it’s amazing how far ahead of the time they were in some aspects. Like the key card puzzle structure still exists nearly 30 years later lol

But then some things are archaic. Like the general layout of the rooms you go into is super wack.

They’re still fun as hell though. I played through Doom 2 right before Eternal came out and had a blast.

All of the older Doom games (1, 2, 3, and 2016) are on sale now on PSN.

Definitely going to grab 1 and maybe 3. I played 3 a bit but never dug too deep into it (I played for like 4 hours one night assuming the game saved checkpoints, and I was so butthurt when I finally died and realized it didn’t that I never bothered to play again)
