Ehh I’d rather fight the Archvile than a Marauder. You can nuke the Archvile when you see him(literally) but with the Marauder it forces you to play a certain way because of the shield.
I was thinking about how strong you feel in Doom while the game still manages to offer a good challenge. You feel like a legit badass for clearing some of those areas.
I can’t think of another game that offers a similar power fantasy without making you feel purely OP
And it’s so fucking cheap how it just pops out instantly too. That shield fucks up the whole flow.
Man, I’m at the Cultist Base (third level) and one of the arenas gave me a hard as fuck time. I’m playing on UV, and I don’t remember 2016 being this tough on that setting. I’m considering dialing it down a notch, but I don’t really want to.
Ninja Gaiden.
In DOOM you need to abuse your tools to stay alive, sometimes abusing invincibility frames(Chainsaw, Glory Kills.)
In NG it’s really similar. You need to abuse your tools to stay alive, again abusing i-frames(Obliteration Technique, Ultimate Technique, Demon Flip Throw.) You feel powerful but the enemies you fight are insane too and they can blow you up quickly.
One thing I didn’t notice until much later on is that your grenades are on different cooldowns. So, you can toss a frag grenade(or both) then swap to the frost grenade and toss that as well. That might help a bit.
Oh word? Thanks for the tip
Ninja Gaiden is a good call.
Platforming in Urdak broke me. I’m done for the day. More stupid floating walls and now they want me to line up a shot while in mid air to drop a laser grid?
Fuck off Id.
Yeah, and the frost grenade upgrades can give you health. Flame Belch+Frost Grenada=health and armor for free. I liked the frag grenade upgrades the most though, because they can basically wipe out entire arenas on their own almost, or at least give you a bit of breathing room.
Haha it became natural for me at that point.
You’re at the end just about. The last level firefights are so, so good(to a point where I wish more of the game was like that.)
Finally finished DOOM Eternal, and the first thing I did after that was uninstall DOOM 2016. I don’t see myself ever going back. I’m going to give battlemode a chance next week but I am going to start DOOM 64.
Yea the fights have been a great time as long as a Murauder isn’t there.
They keep fucking it up with all this “down time.” Fuck your down. Less jumping over bottomless pits and more ripping and tearing.
I agree. The game would have been better with more firefights and less platforming/water sections/block puzzles.
I was thinking that Capcom’s recent titles(REmake 2, DMCV) arguably have better character models but the environments in DOOM look much better. You’d occasionally run across a flat, boring texture in those titles(which I feel has something to do with the RE engine, it’s something I’ve noticed with each game using it.)
The environments look amazing but the new art style for the demons makes it hard for me to appreciate the models. Some of them look more goofy then threatening. With that said the Cyber Demon looks AMAZING.
Hey did the Cacodemons make that goofy as fuck BLOOP noise when you rip their eyeball out in 2016? I don’t remember that silly sound effect and I hate it lmao.
I’m still working out how to word it but something I appreciate about this game is how it reminds me of the differences between DOOM1 and II. Like DOOM II is a more hectic intense and silly game then 1 was and would just lock you in a room with the fucking silliest enemy combinations and shit. Also reminds of DOOM II where the beginning of the game is great but slowly starts to get worse as you get deeper into it. Like they are running out of ideas or something and just went “Fuck it make a big room and put everything in it!!!” Lol.
You guys keep talking about old doom.
I guess i gotta go ahead and buy 1, 2, and 64 now
Tried out Bright Memory, and well its…okayish!!
The graphics and level design look amazing, but the gameplay so far isn’t clicking with me.
Yeah, it’s the worst level for platforming IMO. Use the Air Control Rune if you’re not already. At least for those bits.
That’s a good idea I didn’t think of that. I’ll give it a shot the next time I boot up the game.
Is this anything other than tapping R1 to switch to the last weapon, or holding it to bring up the wheel?
I’ve seen people swapping weapons really quickly, like instantly, and I don’t know how they’re doing it.
You are probably watching people play on PC where all the guns are set to Number Keys. No need to pull up a weapon wheel when you can just hit 4 or 5.
