The Football (Soccer) Thread - Season 2017/2018

Damnit Japanese goalie saved it but couldn’t follow up

Holland just scored, that Robben shot was siiiiiick shame it hit the post :amazed:

Fucking agger going over like a sack of spuds

What a shit penalty, got lucky with the follow up to

Japan deserve the win, they’ve been miles better than denmark

I’m with you here. I think I’m the only one in my fantasy group to pick them through the group stage. I love Nakamura (Celtic fan), but he’s been coming on as a sub. Think he came in around 65 mins the last game and he played well.

He hasn’t gotten the chances to show off the free kicks though, I would love to see it.

Thats 3 well deserved goals to Japan! Wonderful play!

great goal by japan, well crafted

World, meet Keisuke Honda.

I was disappointed that he went to CSKA instead of Ajax.

what a fucking joke - i can’t believe japan is winning this shit, its 100 % on denmark for losing this game

sorensen fucked up for the first goal and it seems like they havent prepared for set-pieces at all

jon dahl tomasson - why is he still on the national team? its a player that is more interested in his own personal stats rather than helping the national team progress, a better player in his position would’ve scored atleast once from the chances he was offered

That last goal for Japan was lovely teamwork. Fun game to watch.

Denmark just isn’t good enough, Japan outclassed them the first half which was enough.
After that they just had to lean back and counter anything Denmark had to offer, which wasn’t much.
Denmark was out simply outclassed in terms of skill, positioning, spirit and will power.

That’s not ‘into’ the game, that’s into the players. This is probably why I see C.Ronaldo so much even though I don’t think he’s an amazing player but he’s apparently a great poster boy. I’d love to see him & Portugal be shut down by Brasil tomorrow. No offense to Portugal but I’ve always favoured Brasil.

Across the board though it seems like more people are into the sport this Cup which explains why people who haven’t been around have really been exaggerating some team’s talents.

Onto this JPN game right now - amazing game, and I’m glad to see them get that 3rd goal after the Denmark player got away with such an obvious dive.

Why would anybody want to go to the dutch league now?

Lets face it after spain england russia probably pays the best wages, there’s no way the dutch league can compete in attracting players, and even when you do you’re just a stepping stone for the bigger teams in europe, which is a shame.

the name ajax dosn’t mean shit these days, it should because they were one of the giants of europe, but sport moves on

well yeah, on the day, the japanese team was better - but im gonna stress on the day

I’m talking about when he still played for VVV, Ajax didn’t make their move eventhough they could’ve.
If you already have 4/5 players who can play on his particular position there’s no need to bring him in, especially when you have your own home grown players amongst them, plus the biggest talents of Denmark and Uruguay (Eriksen/Lodeiro). Ofcourse we can’t compete with clubs spending millions while they’re in serious debt, but we always bring forth world class players from our youth academy and that’s our power. I’d like to know what becomes of the current european top when the Fifa decides to ban clubs who spend more than they earn, not to mention the 6+5 rule.

the new rules hurt smaller clubs more than big ones, as long as the big clubs youth setup is world class they’ll be able to beat the small clubs to the best talent and maintain the status quo, the only way anyone will see small clubs being able to move up would be several seasons of perfect transfers, and that is pretty unlikely…

the 6+5 rule got scrapped

Bullshit.
Which of the big clubs (apart from Barca and perhaps Madrid) has a world class youth academy?
I’m not talking Arsenal steez buying youth from all across the world here.

what are you getting at? it doesn’t count if the players are not english?

arsenal does have a great academy, so does chelsea - they’ve invested millions the last few years to get their youth development up to the standards that such a big european club should have, and man u are also atm developing great prospects

liverpool is the only big club in the premier league that has a rubbish academy on account of rubbish handling of the youth setup by rick parry

Maicon is the shiznit

Both Man Utd and especially West Ham have excellent youth academies too.

Agreed.

80 minutes without a goal from Brazil? What is this?
