The Football (Soccer) Thread - Season 2017/2018

Where are the local kids who become world class players?
It’s easy to buy top talents from every country in the world and call them your own.
In my opinion Leeds and West Ham’s academy have brought forth more stars than united or Chelsea in the last 15 years.

Tell me who have homegrown stars in their squads?
You speak ill of Liverpool’s youth academy yet Gerrard and Carragher are local lads who’ve made it.

As for the smaller clubs like Ajax… don’t make me start listing the legends, yes local lads, they brought forth.

lol the universe giving me the gift of trolling.

you dont understand my hate for my town. brasilians will now be parading in downtown. i love brazilians any other time…but worldcup time.

THEY HAVE A FUCKING PARADE AFTER A WIN! A PARADE! when i say they parade downtown i mean they literally do it. a caravan of cars, honking and yelling.

That’s cause you’re in MA.

They don’t parade in Brazil after a win in group stage.

even liverpools own new youth coach says their academy is rubbish - steven gerrard came out of the academy in 1998 and its only now they’ve tried to move forward and that is unacceptable for a club of their stature

the players are their own… they’ve signed them at an early age and are trying to make sure sure they develop into world class players - world class potential does not equate world class players. disregarding the clubs contribution to the development of these children just because they are foreign is like saying people who adopt haven’t really raised their kids - most of chelsea and uniteds youth players are english anyways

im not sure what point you are trying to make about leeds and west ham - its a given they’ve produced more great players than chelseas, chelsea didn’t even start focusing on youth development until about 5 years ago, before that the only notable academy graduate was john terry

as for united: beckham, wes brown, giggs, scholes, the neville brothers etc. etc. etc.

^ neville brothers? they are both crap…

brasil today was just as expected, both teams where satisfied with a draw so thats all they played for.

I liked Holland yesterday, with Roben playing they re a great team.

Let’s hope Spain blows by Chile because if otherwise they might have to play Brazil in the first round.

Maicon is the shit, he reminds me of Cafu sometimes.

Or we could just hope that Chile beats Spain and the Swiss beat honduras nicely, so Spain is eliminated

no no i need spain as my brasil killers. shut your mouth.

Chances are, if Brazil and Spain play…Brazil will win anyway. IMO.

Viva Spain imo. Brazil might as well be the Lakers of footie, in the same manner that Man U are the Lakers of the Premiership (fuck 'em)

LMAO at that goal. Dumbass goalie.

Well, round 2 is already all set:

Saturday

  • USA vs. Ghana
  • Uruguay vs. South Korea

Sunday

  • Argentina vs. Mexico
  • England vs. Germany

Monday

  • Netherlands vs. Slovakia
  • Brazil vs. Chile

Tuesday

  • Spain vs. Portugal
  • Paraguay vs. Japan

USA vs Ghana rematch. oooohhhh.

The players are not at an age to make such decisions for themselves, let them become 18 at least.
As long as they pay the parents a reasonable sum of money they’ll agree even if it’s bad to take youngsters from their environment and everything they’re familiar with.
Chelsea’s been violating the rules recently by approaching young players in a non official way that ended up with a transfer ban.

You said that smaller clubs will suffer more when the Fifa will apply the new rules because they lack a world class youth setup right?

When has Chelsea or United brought forth another Beckham or Terry?
The Dutch have brought forth many top players over the recent year which is impressive, especially since our population only counts 16 million people.
Every generation counts at least a handful of gems, good example of Ajax’ last generation is Sneijder who’s Mourinho’s architect at current triple winner Internazionale.
I don’t even need to mention the talents from other clubs besides Ajax.

If you’re implying that both Brazil and United are akin to the Lakers because all these teams have a number of championships, then yes, you are correct.

I think it’s more to do with the fact that people who know nothing about their respective sports still claim to ‘support’ them.

England vs Germany … thats what the World Cup is made for! I hope for a legendary game like 96 at the European Championship … I’m so hyped… O_O
