I think South America in general deserves some mad props at this year’s WC… Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and (likely) Chile all are going to make the knockout rounds… Combine that with the US and Mexico and that’s 7 of the 16 spots going to Western Hemisphere teams… that’s pretty darn good!

They’re probably still the 4th or 5th best team in the tourney from South America. Argentina and Brazil are obviously better, but I think after that Paraguay is the team to beat as far as SA teams go. And I would put them about on level with Chile. Probably a little above Chile right now because they’ve had good form.
Group A was an easy group with South Africa and the France implosion. And Mexico had a big question mark coming in with all they’ve gone through in the past year or so.
