I don’t get this either. I thought the first Mexican goal should have counted for sure, but the announcer said something about being ahead of the keeper.
Can somebody please explain this to me, cause I don’t see how that goal was offside?!?

Even the announcers agree: They were robbed. A terrible call.
As it stands Mexico appears to be dominating the match, South Africa needs to step it up.
I only heard on the radio about 1 disallowed goal, british commentators agreed with the ref it was offside
How about that for the opening goal, SONIC BOOM top right corner!
lol @ not understanding the offside rule
Granted i was confused at first but it made sense after seeing the replay, im not explaining though lol wanna focus on the match.
south africa goal was cracking though, what a shot.
More like an EX
After seeing the replay I’m more inclined to go with the ref’s offside ruling, still very costly for Mexico.
For anyone that wants to watch it on their computer

pretty HQ stream.
damnit…equalizer
Damn, tight game to start off this World Cup. RSA was really taking it to mexico there in the second half; lots of opportunities for both teams throughout the game.
Beautiful goal by Tshabalala, damnit Mexico >:|.
yeh the counter attack leading up to it was brilliant too
Guess I posted in the wrong thread. XD
I think Spain is overrated, specially seeing who came from the injury list lately and makes up the heart of the team. They are top 3 though …
In any case 1:1 opening game was cool with me. Good referee work for the most part, too.
France might suck tonight …, but I am still unsure if Ribery and Co get the corner right. I do not think they are a united with Henry from the bench and palyers complaining, had a bad rythem, lots of internal troubles concerning the coach and well they just lack quality.
Hope Deutschland makes it to the quarter final and then we’ll see …, I doubt our young team can manage big wins though. Even if Schweini stepped up and most of the team is solid with him as playmaker. But Klose is old and not in form. Poldi is a mixed bag, variable midfielders like Ballack and Frings will be lacking specially on the defencive end and for those standards … At least our goalkeeper is an amazing talent and Mesut Özil can breakthrough.
AHHHHHHH putisima madre!!! que nos pasa FUUUUUUU!!! TANTO PINCHE TALENTO Y NI SIQUIERA GANAMOS!!!MIERDAAAAA11
those horns can get really annoying…
fuck yeah, i put marquez on my fantasy soccer team
and the reason why there was offside on that goal is because fifa rules dictate that there needs to be TWO players between the goal and the player for there not to be offside
"Offside position
It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
A player is in an offside position if:
? he is nearer to his opponents? goal line than both the ball and the
second-last opponent
A player is not in an offside position if:
? he is in his own half of the field of play or
? he is level with the second-last opponent or
? he is level with the last two opponents"

LOL @ LOL
So I mistook that as long as there was a defender ahead it wasn’t offside. Give me a kit-kat.
South Africa definetly deserved better.
Mexico has a pretty piss-poor offense if they’re gonna have SO many shots on goal and fuck up like 95% of them. This is further enforced by the fact that it was a DEFENDER who scored the equalizing goal.
Damn, World Cups always get me amped up. Word!
I actually give credit 2 both teams. They gave a nice opener for the World Cup.
I think both teams had EXTREME tournament Jitters and were not playing up to par… Especially Mexico. They completely dominated the first half and missed way too many opportunities. Considering the odds against the Mexican team, they still held up pretty well! Tshabalaba had a spectacular gol, and more so, a spectacular assist. That pass was on point and he excecuted correctly to give them the lead. I just don’t see France and SA making it out of this Group. Definitely Mexico and Uruguay going to the next round! (hopefully)
For people who don’t understand the offside rule:

The blue attacker was in an offside position because he was beyond the last red defender at that moment when the ball was being passed. That’s why you often see strikers look up the last defender, sync their position and hope for that one ball that’ll give them a head start.
The confusion with the call mentioned is because the rule is actually that it’s the second to last defensive player including the
keeper that matters.
In the Mex - RSA game the goalie was coming up in his box, and the center back was on the goal line.
People were thinking that because the defender was standing on his line that he was the last defender that mattered towards offsides, but it was actually the keeper being behind the attacker that drew the offside.

Offside call you all talking about.
