The Football (Soccer) Thread - Season 2017/2018

USA versus Chech friendly on right now. USA scores and half the team jumps into the stanky leg…

…and it’s all even now.

US team roster is out.

The World Cup kicks off tomorrow with South Africa taking on Mexico. This will kick off at 10:00 EST for you Americans.

USA will almost certainly get out of their group and I personally feel they’ll top it with a win over England.

Get hype for the greatest sporting event in the world!

Can’t wait.

I’m going to be in this thread every day of the World Cup.

For tomorrow I’m expecting both South Africa and Uruguay to do well and maybe come away with a point each. Mexico and France are both pathetic right now. I think France is likely to have an awful tourney just like the did in the Euro 08 and get a new manager and overhaul after it’s all over. One of the things I’ll enjoy watching the most over the next couple weeks if that happens.

Also, since you’re from Dublin and my Grandpa is Irish, I’m going to vent one last time and say it’s complete bullshit that Ireland isn’t in it. I can’t wait until Henry comes to MLS, he’ll be lucky if he gets away without something being thrown at him his first game in Columbus, since there’s a good amount of Irish fans in the supporters section here.

I don’t hate Henry at all. Robbie Keane handled three times in the French box and was caught each time. Henry just happened to not be caught when he handled. What’s really bad is that neither offside player was flagged by the linesman!

Mexico should beat SA tomorrow. SA are shite, really shite!

Everyone gets a hand on it sometimes, but it’s another thing entirely when it leads to the goal that knocks you out of the World Cup.

I don’t have anything against Henry, but I’ll still give him hell about it, since he’ll only be 20 feet away from me when he plays here.

Mexico and SA is tough. You know SA will get up for it because it’s their opening match in their home country. They’ve won something like 12 in a row, they played well against Denmark.

They are shit, and they won’t get out of the group (and I don’t think they’ll win a game), but Mexico has just been so all over the place for the past couple of years it could be a good chance for them to be caught off guard.

I have been looking for this thread for quite some time now and I could not find it!!!

Kick off Concert today at 1:00pm. Since i’m at work, I’ll probably have to catch the live stream at espn3 or maybe someone on Justin or Ustream will have it on!

LuckyDay,
Mexico COULD get caught off guard, but that is highly unlikely. MX beat Italy in a friendly last week and SA lost to Spain 6-0… I know Spain is a power house and are very heavy favorites for winning this yrs WC, I just dont see SA being a threat to anyone!

I’m ready for this shit. England fixin’ to get their fridge raided.

I am very confident that Holland will reach very far. we’re one of the top contenders along with Brazil, Argentina, England, Germany, Italy, portugal and Spain. I think we have a great mix of youthful players and veterans which is very good for balancing purposes. Robben, Van Bommel and Sneijder all had a fantastic season winning the double in their respective leagues and reaching the Champions League final.
They have experienced pressure all season and know what it takes to win a prize so they won’t be as nervous as they were at Euro08. Our offensive triangle is looking very good

All I want to know is what the hell are the British Tabloids going to look like when the US beat England in the group opener??? What is the look going to be like on the English player’s faces when they realize that they’ll have handed the US its most important international soccer win since 1950? IT’S GONNA BE CRAZY!!!

And why is everyone sleeping on Mexico? They’re up and down sure, but they’re coming in hot and beat Italy soundly in their last friendly… South Africa is terrible and would have had zero chance of qualifying if this wasn’t in SA.

Beating Italy is nothing.
Holland beat Mexico earlier on. Friendlies tell jack shit though.

England fan here. I would be really disappointed if England lost, I highly doubt it will happen though, I expected England win but a draw won’t surprise me at all.

Even that happens I don’t think it would be too crazy, not like that we are playing Argentine.

BTW I always think team US is underrated.

not in a million years, the english team will simply clamp down on the us counter-attack, fabio capello will be totally content with a 1 - 0, 2 - 0 win.

Gotta keep this brief:

 • I expect US England to be close and possibly draw. I’m not assuming a result either way.

 • Mexico is in good form coming in. So is South Africa. Friendlies mean jack shit. And I wouldn’t be shocked if neither team got out of the group stage.

 • Beating England wouldn’t be the U.S. biggest win since 1950, despite what the media keeps telling you. It won’t determine whether they advance in the knockout stage, so it’s big, but it’s not that big.

Hell, in 2002 we had two wins that are arguably as important or more than this would be if we beat England. Beating Figo and Portugal in the opener, and beating Mexico in the knockout were huge.

That was a really good game itself btw.

Could beat German too, damn ref.

My buddy Herc is on the USA men’s soccer team.

high school edit: I’ve got pix of us during sophomore year when he was skinny as fuck and I had a not so G mustache, lol. But it aint’ coming up til the US is eliminated.

This is going to be a great world cup!!! I will be watching the Finals in Las Vegas as I will be attending EVO there as well!

The USA official “",stirring stuff…

LOL @ being offside when there’s a defender on the damn goal line.
