The First Lady of Fighting - General Chun-li Discussion

I’m working on a Chun-li team to show that she’s worth playing. I think I’m gravitating toward Chun-li/Frank West (Shopping Cart)/Rocket Raccoon (Log Trap) after some exploration with her. I figure Log Trap is good for clearing the room of projectiles and gets her easy combos, and it’s also nice for Frank once I level him up. My biggest problem right now is doing Chunners’ combos - damn those are hard. My record was 430K without meter, but I can only pull it off 25% of the time. If anyone has an “easy” bnb with her that builds solid meter (i.e. not just c.MHS into the triple jump loop), I dig it. I can hit the d.M after spiking opponent’s from the launcher, but it’s really inconsistent. Sometimes I bounce far above my opponent, sometimes right next to him. It seems like it’s a tight link to get it right.

Any tips on doing the TAC glitch with her? It’s one of the reasons I picked Frank West, that and Chunnners can get him to level 4 without burning any meter, which seems like a pretty sweet deal to me. I’m happy to DHC glitch him in too, but I’m not sure how to do that with Chun-li.

i just wanna no what are chun’s best options for dealing with Zoners like taskmaster, morrgan, hawkeye, ect.

Make the most of your tri jump and air dash. It’s also recommended that she have zoning assists of her own. Doom Plasma Beam and Sentinel Force Charge are good examples.

Jump.
Force them to come to you.
It’s fun and also effective. Not to mention frustrating for your opponent =)

You can tell that Chun has limited options when that’s her best strategy. If the other person is perfectly content to chip you out, time you out, etc. then its annoying. Because even if you evade really well, you’ll still eat some chip. Even more so if they are backed by Doom, Dante, or Strider assist…

Kikoshou will beat Strider. If you chicken block him, u can punish his assist too.
Dante’s assist can’t hit you far away.
I suppose the only assist that can give you a harder time is Hidden Missiles, even though you can avoid all missiles.

But if you are jumping to avoid getting hit then you can’t punish Strider. That only works when grounded.
And no, but I figured I’d include it because its a good anti-air assist.

I dunno… whenever someone says the way to beat someone is to not get hit… then I think that matchup becomes heavily in the other person’s favor because any good player knows how to open someone up who is running away. It’s like when people would try to run away from Phoenix… sure it may work for a bit, and work against people who don’t know what they are doing but any decent Phoenix will hit you eventually.

Was wondering what your guy’s opinions on this team is? The team I’m using is Chun (Hyakuretsukyaku), Strider (Vajra), Vergil (Rapid Slash). The idea behind the team is that strider would help with lock down and keep flyers grounded, also since my friend started picking up MODOK, probably the only way I could think of to get past his barrier. Also wondering if there was another way to approach your opponent besides kara air dashing, it’s useful yea, but it leaves you pretty open unless you have a beam assist, and for me, most of the characters that have that assist don’t really interest me.

Probably been asked before, but what assists does Chun need? The other thread was only for vanilla’s standards before her Yosokyaku was OTG capable, so far I’ve test run this team against my friend, and it’s working out ok so far. Are beam assists really a required for Chun to be effective, cause the selection is fairly limited in regards to particularly beam assists, and I’d rather have a unique team rather than “choose Doom.” Having too much fun playing as Chun and don’t want to replace her if I’m forced to use a beam assist just to be any good.

I said chicken block him; that means jump back, block his assist and punish after you block him.
And I didn’t say “don’t get hit”. I said jump. Taskmaster isn’t really hard to open up, I just said that if you have problem with his zoning, just jump and force him to stop it.

Okay, so I’m finally giving Chun-Li some serious consideration after repeatedly subjecting myself to videos by Brian and Lud. I have the following corner combo down…

Air :m: > :m: > :h: > Kikoanken > Crouching :h: > Tenshokyaku :l: > Air S :s: > :m: > :h: > :s: > Air :h: > Air :s:> Yosokyaku > Hyakuretsukyaku :m: > Air :h: > EX Spinning Bird Kick > Kikosho

…I’m just lost when it comes to mid-screen combos. Any tips?

This very combo works mid-screen

I’m guessing I have to air dash after the Tenshokyaku :l: for the air :s: to connect?

Nope. It’ll just work out fine.

Really? I’m having problems linking it outside of the corner. I guess I just have to keep trying until I land it. Thanks for the help, guys. I really appreciate it.

It may be easier if you use a stand :H: rather than a crouching one.

Alternatively, I have this combo that is similar and still pretty easy:

Yeah, I was just doing that in training mode. As it turns out, it scales the combo less too. 668,100 with Kikosho, 869,200 with Shichisei Ranka. Not bad, but I know she can do a lot better once I start working in assists.

Having a bit of trouble with the last part of the combo, particularly landing Yosokyaku after air S, how long should I delay before I try to land it. Also I saw Brian pull off a jump loop similar to Jill’s or doing a Yosokyaku after a throw, mostly wondering what the specific timing is to start a combo after a throw.

K guys umm I’m trying to jump cancel off a cr.H and do headstomp into dash into air.H. The air.H misses/doesn’t come out properly… Is there anything I can do to help it?

Also I was thinking of getting a Hori stick rather than a TE cuz I don’t have resources for a TE…I just play casually would it be ok?

Chun combos hurt my fingers on the pad lololol

How much does the Hori cost? You’d be better off getting a QanBa Q4RAF or an Eightarc Fusion for platform versatility.

I actually wanted those but its literally twice as much…and I’m not a tourney player so I don’t really think it would be bad to go with a Hori…but yeah if I could I woud totally get a Qanba or Eightarc.

Chun Related : How much damage is good with Chun with no meter no assists? Just Chun herself.
