Yeah, considering VIII is my favorite, I don’t see the hate for it. To each his own, but yeah, keep flamebaiting with that kind of talk.
The only part I agree with is the dynamic leveling in VIII, where the only area that’s irrelevant at is Islands Closest to Heaven and Hell. But this did allow customization to shine greatly in this game with the Junction system and weaponry, where these were treated as primary to your character, and not just secondary like other games, where you could just boost levels until you got to where you could dominate anyone.
If they had done away with traditional leveling in this game, and just did stat upgrades a la FFX or so, it would’ve been better. But this was the beginning of stat specific leveling in games after IX, which isn’t a bad thing, just different.
World Map vs. Linear. It’s an RPG. That’s been the basis of FF since its inception. If you’re going to make it linear, might as well make it like Dirge of Cerberus or any other platformer. I still think the story so far is good in XIII, but XIII-2 needs to have it be less linear. Side quest opportunities get killed with this setup, and is why I liked VII & VIII hardcore, and also didn’t like games like Legend of Dragoon as much just because it was far more linear than most RPGs of its time.

Great trailer… I’m finding myself discovering that whole “hope” thing again for FF 13-2. And that trailer is filled with spoilerage. But everything in there actually makes sense and was personally very helpful in understanding where the story is going. Thank you for posting it.
put your final fantasy games wherever you want, but leave seven out of it, ff4, 5, 6 don’t deserve to be aligned with 7. I refuse to call 7 final fantasy now because people seem to lack the ability to taste what 7 actually is.
-_-’ FFVII is the first main series final fantasy to be on a Disk console. in term, It gave the development team alot of creative freedom from what they was restricted to on cartridge. Everything from Music scores to graphics and gameplay the game was vastly expanded and improved. looking at FFVII in a technical standpoint you cannot compare it to FFVI…your right. but in terms of fan base thats debatable…
FFVII isn’t my favorite FF game…but it’s series is entertaining and i like it alot. My Favorite Final Fantasy Currently is XIII but i have many reasons behind that.

I love to discuss all stuff final fantasy but i hate to go into debates on someones opinion about whats the best FF.
So, I listened to you guys and kept at FF13. After a long and painful road I find myself confronted by 3 missions I have no idea how I am going to complete save grinding and farming for 40 hours.

I am not even going to start on the cactus but, I am sure with some lvl.3 weapons I could do the others, so…how does one make gil in FF13 exactly? All I have done is sell what I get lucky finding on the way but as for actually trying to find some gil its like a barren wasteland out there. I have lvl.10 cystarium unlocked. I don’t want to quit with only a handful of missions left.
On another note, I am at the point where I will buy ff13 x-2 now, (even though I am still kind of unclear wtf exactly happened in 13 lol) but after reading the this thread I was thinking back on other FF’s, and I have to agree with some people that FF13 really just does not have that same umph that other FF’s had. Even when the sad opening theme starts up, its like its lamenting that there have been better days…I almost sing along with the tune to those words. Anyway, help is appreciated.
actually on the catuar mission itsnt all that hard…you dont need lv 3 weapons as their ablitiy(or lack there of) will not help you…
for that mission have Lightning on point with LionHeart and Gastalt gear to get random instant chain, keep trying for this tactic as this is the fastest way to kill him without over leveling…its kinda sad if you can kill the final mark and not these ones as they are much easier…
i dont get how your “unclear” on the events in XIII…did you sleep through the cutscenes? shrugs thats what the Datalog is for…
iirc most of the story is in the menu (after you complete events) which was the problem for a lot of ppl. who the hell is reading all of that in the menu.
i can’t help out with the cactuar thing, three tonberries or mission 62 because i don’t remember exactly what i did and i sold the game soon after beating all of that.
i kinda want it again just for the last boss fight.

you single out the Tonberries…or rather…do the easy and smart thing and run paradigms that always have a Sent present… but he hasnt maxed out his crystarium either…let alone have tier three weapons…if you know what to farm and how to brake down the right gear, you can make multiple tier 3 weapons…
i’ll get you a hint…it requires you to max out a tier 3 weapon and by breaking it down at max you get 3 rare turtle drops~
Alright, so I think i cheated and looked up some ways to make gil, and now I am not sure if I feel satisfied because well…I don’t like cheating
I am doing the death trick on the turtles and after 5 tires my first drop was a trap, and then I went 4 for 4 and got 3 plat ingots. Not bad for an hour or so. So now my kain lance is level 84, and I am looking forward to some progress again. I could have made serious money too by killing the sacrafices with 6 catalog’s, but not like this.
Oh well, i cheated. I would have never tried/figured out the death trick, let alone figure out the traps drop from those turtles, and I was not about to grind through 6 million gil on sacrafices lol. Hats off to whoever figured all this. I am stuck in this grindfest that square deviously set up and can’t quit now because the last 9 yards take the longest. Meh, here’s to FF13-2 and no cheating
You didn’t cheat, you just abused the system for not letting you get money in the first place. Fuck grinding hours for gil when you put a level cap on my characters.
Alas battle system was pretty fun. Kept me on the edge of my seat for each battle. However I just really wanted to make my characters OP, just let me do that before the final boss, not after.
I decided to to go back to FF13 and beat the game. But the game freezes at the Square Enix logo and I can’t play it anymore plus there is no scratches on the disc. I am pissed.
