Spoiler

When Tetsuya Nomura said there wouldn’t be any Final Fantasy Versus XIII at Tokyo Game Show, he meant it. The long awaited companion project to Final Fantasy XIII (or maybe Final Fantasy XIII-2?) was nowhere to be found at the show, not even in sneak trailer form.

It seems that Nomura was saving an update on the game for Famitsu. The magazine has an interview with Nomura this week, revealing a few intriguing details.

Here’s some of what’s surfaced from the magazine so far:
Nomura says that he recently did a walkthrough of the full world map. He also did a check on the game’s dungeons and the side paths in the game’s towns. He was impressed with how expansive everything is.

When Square Enix announced the development of its “Luminous” next generation engine, some very cruel people joked that maybe Versus would be updated to use it. Actually, the game does use the lightning technology from Luminous, Nomura reveals. However, the game also uses a game specific engine that’s specialized for action.

With Versus, Nomura promises a Final Fantasy like you’ve never seen before.
Nomura also commented on Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, saying the game is 60 to 70 percent complete and due out in Spring 2012.

We’ll hopefully get more details from Nomura’s interview once the usual suspects get their copies of Famitsu in a few hours. Check back later in the day!

Wheee mid 2012

The URL says there’s an error, and having to wait for the game to release mid 2012 doesn’t sound bad at all.

Or does that mean that new solid concrete info will arise around that time? Don’t want to get my hopes up just yet.

I feel like I’m the only person in the world who has completed most of the FF series (I haven’t played I, II, or V, and I just started VI) that finds FFXIII to be the best one. The story may be hard to understand for some, but hey, that’s why there’s a datalog. The battle system easily makes up for any shortcomings it had (unless the battle system was a shortcoming to you), and Fang is my favorite FF character now lol. Yet even though I love FFXIII, I’m not very hyped for the sequel. I feel that the story was fine as is.

The only reason to play FF13-2 now is to make a team of all Behemoths, and to see Mullet Snow.

You ARE the only person who feels that way. And really… once you play 6 (and 5 for that matter) FF13 shouldn’t be your favorite. 13 is an abberation, it’s a decent game, but like 12 in many ways, its a final fantasy in name only and shares very little mechanically with the rest of the series. Some people like it, but I’m personally a fan of convention and when the formula works not breaking it. And for me the paradigm shift system, for the same reason I didn’t like the gambit system didn’t give me enough personal control but I also understand that with the pacing of the fights in FF13 that controlling each character individually would be difficult but then some better AI on Synergists and Sabs would have been very welcome. Oh and the fact that the game is one giant corridor for the first 10 chapters then drops you into the middle of a huge outdoor dungeon for chapter 11 with very little help on how to get wherever and then putting you back into the corridors for the final two chapters was… less than thrilling.

But hey, I have hopes for Chrono Fantasy 13-2…

I love RPGS and rank XIII in my top Final Fantasy games and I own them all except V, Dirge and X-2. I don’t really get the hate. I love classic turn based RPG’s more then anybody and got over it very quickly once I got to the end of Act I. I thought the gameplay was fun, the story was good, if not a fantastic nerd blockbuster, gorgeous settings, great soundtrack, and very likable characters.

All XIII-2 needs is more open environments (a world map and towns!) and a few tweaks to battle gameplay to give yourself more control and it should be amazing.

help me please someone

I just started the third disc for FF13, and without spoilers, does this get better?? Somebody give me a reason not to return this game tomorrow. It does’nt even feel like a final fantasy game. I have just been running forward and pressing A for the last 20 hours or so and its getting old. There is no exploring or sense of discovery or adventure like in every past FF game, I just keep running straightforward through these 1 to 2 path "dungeons " and follow the little yellow arrorow. Its like the whole game is on auto-pilot and I am just here to press A all day. This is especially worse for me because there is no strategy or skill to the battle system. Everything just happens automatically while I watch, and I don’t even have to worry about tactics or anything because there is no mana.

I want to knock out another FF game on my list, and I don;t want to be a quitter but I don’t know. I want to return this and get red dead redemption asap. So, does anything change or does this game get any better?

it goes from dope to eh until you get to like chapter 11 or 12. thats when you’re like SON…then it stays between SON… and eh ok til the end in which the graphics for the ending will rise to above SON… levels.

stick with the game since you’re towards the end. it’ll pick up with full exploration. and chapter 11 or 12 is bad ass period. i say this as someone that says that this still doesn’t feel anything near like a “real” ff game.

edit
oh but red dead redemption…woooo. but even that has its boring moments…but that game was and is one of the best games ever, IMO. it needed a sequel yesterday. just finish ffXIII and move on to red dead redemption when you finish. its a win win for you.

Hey don’t feel bad, the EXACT SAME THING happened to me. I finally got to chapter 11, said hey, its not a big corridor anymore, and then realized the game gives you ZERO HELP as to how to progress through it… like none. Oh and as a side note, before someone says, “Hey just do the stone quests in sequential order and that’ll help” it sure would have been nice if the game had some way in the menu to remind you of which ones you had done, what rank you had gotten on it, and could put numbers on the map for each one you had discovered… boy would THAT have been nice…

But eventually I had grinded enough and once the 13-2 announcement came I finally had a reason to push through to the end. I admittedly rushed through chapters 12 and 13 just to get the game finished and really once you complete chapter 11 you’re strong enough to beat the game anyway even without the level 10 crystarium so… Oh and I will say the intro sequence for chapter 12 is pretty sweet… do want to give props where they’re due.

My advice, seriously by the time you’ve gotten to disc 3 you’ve probably put in at least 25-35 hours… you’re really not THAT far from finishing and personally I hate to leave things undone (although I took a 5 month break before I finished 13 so I’m not sure I’m one to talk). Besides, who knows, maybe assuming 13-2 isn’t terrible, maybe they’ll even give you a little bonus for having a finished game save on 13. (Hopefully something better than SF4 costume colors which should be banned for causing epileptic seizures).

If you access the map through the menu screen, you can press the square button to bring up the mission list, which details all of the missions that you’ve encountered, which ones you’ve completed (denoted with a check mark), what rank you got, and if you’re in the area, it will show you where the statue is on the map when you highlight the mission. In addition, the glowing symbols on the map indicate missions that you haven’t completed yet.

REALLY??? Wow… see, that sure would have been helpful to know… I mean I literally complained for months to myself that I could never find a way in game to get that information and all I had to do was press a button on the map… It sure would have been nice if the game told you that…

Well I’m willing to admit when I’m wrong and I am TOTALLY put on blast on that one… But I still understand that guy’s complaint. (Thank you by the way for letting me know)

No problem. I agree, it could have been easier to find if it had its own section in the menu (such as the Clan Primer in FF XII), instead of being a part of the map menu.

A simple icon on the map screen that tells you where list is would have worked to. Its such a simple little thing it’s stupid they forgot it.

There is one. It says, “□ Mission List” on the bottom of the map (that’s how I knew about it).

Oh well it’s been a while for me…WTF was i playing that didn’t have one of those on the map then…I know I’ve bitched about it before. Oh well. My bad.
