The Final Fantasy XIII series thread. Black people sold separately

ff13 is my least favorite of the series.

i’d recommend playing
FF6
FF7
FF9
FF8
FF10
FF12
FF4

in that order, before 13. but if its too late, well, just remember that 13 is nothing like the others, and don’t let it taint your view of the series overall.

this is easily my most anticipated game. loved 13 and love serah.

if you don’t think of ffXIII as a final fantasy game and you view it as a standalone rpg that has nothing to do with the ff series and its typical way of things then ffXIII is a great game with a few flaws here and there.

but if you are familiar with ff games of the past and you associate XIII with the rest of them and hold XIII to the “ff standard” then you will be disappointed.

i think geese pants will enjoy XIII more than the rest of us that have been (basically) asking for another VI, VII, IX or X (or even IV or V).

I can see how that would help, but I just start out the fight in tortoise (Sen/Sen/Sen), Steelguard the Ultima, and then just switch to Rapid Growth (Syn/Syn/Syn) and buff really quickly before taking out the legs. It usually takes me about 7 minutes to kill Long Gui without summoning, and about 4 minutes with a summoning. Cerberus (Com/Com/Com) with Fang, Snow, and Lightning fully buffed just destroys him while staggered.

With that said, there are people killing Long Gui with Snow on point in less than 3 minutes without summoning; I don’t know how in the hell they’re doing that.

Edit: On second thought, I think Tetradic Tiara might be a good accessory to have while grinding turtles.

thats a pretty good way of putting it. the game wasn’t BAD per se, it just was so far from being what i wanted it to be

To be honest, I enjoyed the game even though it put you on a linear path through the first 75% of it. We did get some freedom later on in the game, but hopefully we do get abit more this time around. Also has there been any talk of Snow being playable?

I like this list but I’d throw FFIV at the front. It pretty much lays the groundwork for the rest of the games to come along.

Some people like different entries in the series.

Personally, I’m a big fan of XII (especially IZJS), X-2, Tactics. To a lesser extent, FFVIII, FFX and FFV. I hated FFIII and FFIV and found the others okay (FFVI) to boring/okay (the other entries)

With him never playing anything, I think it’s better if he tries whicheverones and see what he likes/wants to experience and work on recommendations from there.

I mean, you may think VI, VII, IX or X (or whichever entry) is the pinnacle but if you don’t tell him why they are or what to expect out of it’s just a blind recommendation. And similarly, on the recommender’s side, we don’t know what he likes/expects since he hasn’t played any either, so I feel best to describe whichever games he is (or should be) interested in.

Thanks for the input. Are there any easy ways to get Dark matter besides fighting them Shaolong’s? I heard the drop rate was a bit low so i figure farming them is the simple strat…

How do you beat those shaolong’s anyway if Death doesn’t work? That’s how i kill adamantoise’s, i just use Vanille’s summon and spam death.

Shaolong is pretty easy once you get his rhythm… Worst case scenario it takes you 2-3minutes. Which is still 10x faster than farming platinum ignots and then buying it. Plus I went a little crazy and got like 12 knuckles/8 crest/4 ribbon/ etc… LOL. If you just want one of those item then I guess you can buy dark matter, but I still wouldn’t recommend it.

I wouldn’t recommend using death trick even for tortoise/toise. For Long Gui it’s nice since you can do 999,999 per hit with the death trick (switch to com/com/com before it hits to get the bonus).

Anyways here how I dealt with Shaolong. (I’m pretty sure there are better methods, but these were the one I figured out on my own.)

There are quite a few methods, but I mainly stick to two. One is just going balls to the wall, and other uses haze.
Pretty similar to one another but here they are.

(Lighting/Fang/Anyone)
Syn/Sab/Med
Rav/Rav/Rav
Com/Com/Com or Com/Com/Rav (If you have hope/van as 3rd go this one)
Med/Med/Med (You don’t need this if you’re maxed out, just a precaution)
Sen/Sen/Sen

#1 Manually cast Haste/Enfire on your #3. The second you see enfire stick go sen/sen/sen.
#2 Take the opening quake.
#3 Back to syn/sab/med. Cast bravery/haste/enfire on Lighting.
#4 Back to sen/sen/sen for the stomp. If he doesn’t stomp then skip this step.
#5 Back to syn/sab/med and cast bravery/haste/enfire on Fang. (Try to make sure de protect is cast on him).
#6 Rav/Rav/Rav. Hit him with 1 full ATB bar.
#7 Sen/Sen/Sen for the stomp. He doesn’t stomp then skip this step.
#8 Rav/Rav/Rav. Hit him with 2nd full ATB bar. He should be staggered.
#9 Com/Com/Com or Com/Com/Rav. Hit him with 1 full ATB bar.
#10 Sen/Sen/Sen for the stomp, but he usually does quake. If he doesn’t skip this step.
#11 Com/Com/Com or Com/Com/Rav and finish him off.

If everything goes according to plan that should take a little over a minute. If you’re lucky enough where you can skip part #4, #7, and #10 it should be around 50 seconds, but don’t bet on that.

Of course there is a twist and that would be bay. He sometimes does bay during step #10. If he bays go into Sen/Sen/Sen and wait it out. If you come out with decent HP then continue with the plan. If you come out with low HP, then go Med/Med/Med heal up then back to the plan.

You can also always use TP or summon to get rid of bay’s status, but not necessary.

Haze method is a little slower, but pretty much same concept. Slight difference is that you must have Sazh, or Snow.

(Lighting, Fang, Snow/Sazh).

Syn/Med/Sab
Rav/Rav/Rav/
Com/Com/Sab
Med/Med/Med (once again this isn’t necessary, but you never know. I once got hit with 4 bays……)
Sen/Sen/Sen

Steps are exactly the same except for one part. During Com/Com/Sab cancel early so that Lighting/Fang attack before Snow/Sazh. Sazh already attacks slow so this should be easier for him. The entire concept is for Lighting, and Fang to attack while Sazh stands there, and the second they finish off their last hit he cast Daze.
This way the turtle gets hit, dazed, hit, dazed, hit, and then dazed again. Giving him no time to stomp, quake or bay. Obviously this way is a slower since you only have two attackers instead of three, but it’s extremely safe.

Genji Gloves will be one item that makes this fight fast. If you do not have three pairs of Genji Gloves you’re probably better off doing the safe method. Or you can do the 1st method, but you might have to stagger him twice (Just repeat). Gaian Rings are obviously a must as well.

^ what was your HP during that? Because i’m at post game, i’ve completed the titans and currently working on the 60’s missions. I can’t even beat the Adamantoises with out the death trick, so i doubt i’m strong enough to kill Long Gui’s.

HP is overrated. I was able to kill Adamantoise, and torise before I even beat the game. As you know you don’t even unlock level 5 for your roles until you beat the game. So it’s possible at level 4 roles, and all tier 2 weapons.

If you’re having trouble make sure you have equipped Gaian Rings on all 3 characters. You can have up to 4 rings total (one from earth charm if you dismantle or w/e the fucked it’s called again). If you noticed that you don’t have 3 rings + earth charm, then I guess you can always google their location. Go get them and the turtles become easier. I can post how to kill Toise w/o death, but I’m petty sure plenty of people have posted their methods on youtube. Someone is bound to have a much better version then mine anyways…Unless you really want my method…

You don’t even need to beat Long Gui to be honest since Toise/Torise can also give you trap. As for Shaolong he’s actually easier than Long Gui if you follow my method.

The key to all these god damn turtles is manually buffing.

For toise/tortoise/long gui you want basically haste/protect/bravery(or faith).

(Fang on point, because you want High Wind to knock out the legs).

For Shaolong you want haste/enfire/bravery (or faith).

(Lighting on point, because Fang doesn’t have enfire). Actually anyone with enfire on point works with my method.

New screens got put up, looks like the game will have A LOT of places to visit-

Just to clarify about something: The general understanding is that QTEs in this game give you bonuses, so if you don’t do them, it shouldn’t give you anything negative, so feel free to skip them if you want.

:o

Those screens look nuts!! Glad I stopped back in, Imma give bleach a break now it’s time to plat ff13, lets go!!! Im back in FF mode now, Clearing out my gaming schedule lol.

Eh I’ll try to platinum FF13 on my eventually 3rd playthrough =_=

Well for the price it’s currently at, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I didn’t despise it as much as others, but maybe it’s because I got it for $20 too. Traded it back in already though.

Woah, looks like S-E acknowledged the complaints about FF13 being linear, be forwarned that this gameplay element may contain story spoilers-

this thread is a damn joke. niggas really recommended FFVIII over FFxIII? do ya’ll niggas know how terrible FFVIII is? don’t tell me ya’ll actually enjoyed a plot with more dems than a saturday morning cartoon. and don’t even get me started on how terrible the junction system is ( you can break the game 30 minutes in ) and how leveling up actually don’t mean shit in FFVIII thanks to enemies leveling up with you. and let’s not even get started on some of the worst written plot twists since star ocean 3 ( orphanage scene ). also, 80% of the cast is irrelevant in FFVIII. but ya’ll really recommend that over FFXIII just because it’s linear with no world map? get those nostalgia glasses off.

this is subjective.

No shit?
