The Final Fantasy XIII series thread. Black people sold separately

i picked this up on the weekend. So far, my only gripes are:

a) the soundtrack is fucking HORRIBLE…jazzy tunes remind me of MvC2 at times

b) Lightning and Hope. why is it japanese games tend to always include a character who is just a complete dick, that you hate so much, and one whiny doooooooosh bag that you wish would choke to death on a peanut?

couldn’t agree more man. the way i explained it to my friends is this:

when you reach gran pulse it’s almost like you can feel all the potential that the area’s have, and all the things the developers WANTED to do with the game… but they wasted too much time on the early boring “midgard” section and forgot about the rest of the game or had to scrap lots of side quests etc. i mean all the forshadowing in the story of how “evil” the place is in the eyes of the inhabitants of cocoon seemed like they were building towards it being not really that bad and having people living there with multiple towns and locations etc. and then they reached that point in development and saw the bills piling up and said “well fuck it let’s scrap 66% of this shit”. i mean it just feels like such a god damned cop out to have NO human life on cocoon what-so-ever. because if there were people there they would have to have more zones, more missions and more side quests, but if they only have 1 singular little robot alive development for the entire thing would be easy.

edit: and i’m going to back you up on the add gil/item/gear drops back to monsters. their reasoning for moving away from that format was “it’s not realistic for a monster to be carrying money or weapons”… yeah well i’m playing a game where people CAST MAGIC SPELLS. I DON’T GIVE 2 FLYING FUCKS ABOUT WHAT IS REALISTIC AT THAT POINT BECAUSE I HAVE ALLREADY SUSPENDED DISBELIEVE, JUST MAKE THE FUCKING FINISHED PRODUCT FUN AT ALL POINTS IN THE GAME. i’m really struggling to keep my drive up to finish the last of the achievements because basically all that is left is a endless grind for gil and a couple more 5-stars… so sad that such a fun game-play engine gets reduced to such shit-tier at it’s post-game. i honestly can’t name 1 other RPG from square that offered less for players in post game than this title -_-;

^^ I feel you guys, ff13 being multi-platform is what holds this game back.

With Versus being exclusive i think we will get a game as big as MGS4.

Versus 13 gotta be like 38-42gigs big. for reals.

versus is exclusive to the ps3 huh? damn… what’s the release date? gotta start the countdown for when i will have to buy a ps3…

Yep, Im starting the HYpe right now!!!

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/fabula/versus13/

what’s the release date?

Square wanted that money which is a shame cause i still feel if FFXIII was still exclusive, it probably would’ve sold more Ps3’s and still maintained the amount of copies sold.

I’m pretty sure Square took dat Microsoft money to finance the shit out of Versus. Square is funny like that.

Square will eventually be taking more of that Microsoft money I believe. As for versus guess I won’t be playing it since it will only be on PS3 but after FF 13 I honestly don’t mind too much lol.

I’m just hoping that S-E gives us some of the scrapped locales as DLC at some point. I’m sure there were some areas in Pulse that were left out, it’d add to the replay value.

Cosign on the NG+.

That would be dope, I would love some DLC. I would praise the gods if they could somehow give us a patch that made enemies drop gil. I’ve said it before, but I wouldn’t mind farming traps/dark matters if enemies dropped money. Even with their abysmal drop rates, if enemies dropped money then upgrading weapons/accessories wouldn’t be such a chore, and if I was unlucky and not getting drops I could always just buy them with said money from enemies.

Trade CP for GIL.

Of course the rate would be something like 10,000 CP for 1000 GIL or something to that effect. Just so people wouldn’t get all the GIL they needed from a maxed 999k CP stock.

that wouldn’t be too bad either

I think the idea behind looting is less of a realism issue and more of a balancing issue. Same thing popped up in FFXII.

The idea is, “Do I keep these components for item upgrading or do I sell them off for money moeny?” The problem is, it’s poorly balanced, since there’s a lot of items that don’t make for good item EXP and not good for selling either.

Instead of scrapping this system, I feel they should tweak it more, so that you don’t get so many different types of items, but instead get a smaller set of items that are more useful overall.

I agree with mostly all of this. Replay would jump super for me if we had a new game plus. Doing some of the boss battles with the stats I have now wold be funny. I love owning things easily so that could just be personal taste talking.

Doing some of this shit from scratch again, though? Fuck that. The first Barthandelus (sp?) fight? Fuck no. Fuck all those summon fights. And DEFINITELY don’t want to do orphan again.

So yeah, new game plus is the way to go like Rodimus said… And more fucking gil.

Grinding for Gil isn’t too tiresome if you take the not so long way of fighting in Edenhall with the right accessories.
I rather enjoyed grinding while doing missions myself, but upgrading the 2ndary roles is ridiculous; 30k CP just to get an extra attack boost of 5-6 points?

am I like the only person who isn’t enjoying this game?

I’m still determined to beat it, but by far this is one of the weaker storylines (I’m about to finish the second disc), and the game is FAR too linear, and I truly miss some of the classic enemies. Sure, I’ve seen lame Behemoth’s (way to ruin a badass FFIV enemy, Square), and Bombs (wtf??? Now its a dodecahedron???), but I ain’t really digging the mecha-monster stuff anymore.

I think I will need to clean up with a nice game of FFVI after this.

edit: I should add that although I originally didn’t like the constant party switching, it was a nice way to ensure all characters get used a lot (in previous games, there were people who would join my party, then never see the light of day ever again).

That being said, now that i unlocked the ability to choose my party, unless forced to, I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever even utter the name Hope ever again. Fuck I hate him. Why couldn’t Sephiroth magically reappear and skewer him Aeris style?

Behemoths in later segments of the game are much more powerful and fearsome. Also bombs not looking like the way they looked in 90% of previous FF games isn’t a big deal.

Yeah, wait til you calculate the 10th level of the secondary crystariums. Here’s a hint… three million and some expensive change for three.

What I did was rack up 600k CP, use them all up, then rack another 600k and repeat the process.

In a future replay, I’ll prob. do my grinding in Edenhall just to rack up enough cash for upgrading weapons :smokin:

BTW the reason I had the title as series is because of vs. 13 and Agito 13, you’re all OK with discussing it in this thread?
