The Final Fantasy XIII series thread. Black people sold separately

Why does he have to look like a 70’s Righteous Black Power Nigga though…its uncomfortable and extremely ‘hey dad’ like

I think this Game is on some type Arcade FF shit…They shouldnt let u retry shit after u take a L to a Boss

Just hit chapter 12. I enjoyed it quite a bit but now it feels like they’re just padding the game. I’m avoiding most fights if I can. I guess we will see how the rest of it goes.

Why are we complaining about what is probably one of the most positive, non-sterotypical black male representations in a video game?

Just asking…

(Also, his semi-militaristic jacket is from his job as a pilot, not some kind of political statement)

So I just hit Chapter 11. Did the first 3 missions without too much trouble… I didn’t really grind anything out, so my chars are pretty lacking and I need to bolster them up. I know the Behemoth/Wolf spot, but I don’t think im big enough to tackle that yet… I took on a wolf(i think) against a few of those stupid smaller lion-looking-things and they kicked my ass a few times. What should I grind on to get them up? I’ve only upgraded the Axis Blade for Lightning to its max level (don’t have adamantite to upgrade it to the next type) soooo not sure what I should do.

My normal party is Lightning/Hope/Fang, but sometimes I go with Lightning/Vanille/Jigga. I always need a Sabo/Syner, but with the latter setup I don’t have a Sentinel, which hurts sometimes.

I tried to take on a big ass turtle for fun and it 1shot my entire team X_x.

Anyhows, prior to grinding the Behemoth/Wolf, where should I build up at the beginning of 11? Just try to do the missions and kill anything I come across?

I thought Choco-bro was the preferred nick-name?

Go to that Behemoth/Wolf area and go past it into the mining cave. It will be hard, maybe even real hard, but it will be do-able. Grind there for an hour or two then try the behemoth. If you can kill it before it transforms, then the wolf is no problem. Also, just power through that behemoth thing, Com Fang, Rav Light, Rav Hope

Thanks, I’ll try it out and see how I do.

Ok so I just finished the game. My thoughts:

I liked the battle system overall. Once you get used to paradigm system, it’s pretty fun. Although, some fights with the right paradigm can be ridiculously easy (a la final 3 bosses…omg so easy with com/sab/sab) and pain-stakingly hard with the wrong ones.

Voice acting was good all round. Yeah vanille sounds kinda weird sometimes but that didn’t stop me from permanently keeping her in my battle team

The graphics as always were imo superb; cut-scenes are always a joy to watch and the animation on the characters was fantastic at emmersing me into the world. Or at least the characters.

Mixed feelings about the level cap on crystarium. I understand why they did it but at the same time it doesn’t matter much: I grinded in every chapter and filling out a node or two doesn’t make much of a difference anyhow. A full stage however does show big differences.

Weapons and accessories —> Meh, don’t particularly like the upgrading system. I got through entire game without levelling any weapon or accessory.

One thing that annoyed me tho was I didn’t give a shit about cocoon or grand pulse. I cared about the characters a lot, but their mission to save their world I honestly couldn’t connect to. I think this is because of the lack of world map; you can’t go and explore other areas or re-visit old places - at least for sight-seeing purposes. Instead, it’s just a lot of padding via battles. One thing I loved about FFX was that I got emmersed completely into the world and all the sub cultures etc. That didn’t happen this time which is a shame because the main storyline is to save this world…that I don’t particularly care about.

Still, the ending was fitting imo and there’s still plenty of missions and crystarrium to do.

So, about what you said in reference to caring about the world they are saving. I kind of get where you’re coming from, but isn’t that a side effect of the characters not even knowing if they’re supposed to or going to save anything? They were manipulated from the start, that makes it hard to place faith in any place or thing, so they placed faith in each other, right? Now, in regards to Fang and Vanille’s fate, it was appropriate, but I have to admit it was kind of a bummer. I thought the revelation that Fang really was Ragnarok and she really was supposed to destroy Cocoon was interesting.

After completing it, I WANT there to be a FFXIII-2. These characters deserve re-visiting.[/details]

Damn, after a post like that I feel like I should be having International Coffees with my other girlfriends. I’m such a bitch for good stories.

Because the Fro was gay… its not his clothes im speakin on. But why niggas gotta have baby chocobo’s in they hair… that shit aint hawt

i upgraded his antares hi-powers up to level 2 (a level 2 weapon with more str than most level 3’s baby yeah!)

Okay.

Beat Mission 64 Vercingetorix on my 3rd try. Just 2 stars tough as I missed the target mark by 2 minutes.

Like I said, he ain’t that tough and not as hard as Neochu, Raktavija x 2 or the Blue turtles. Just long and a little bit random.

But you gotta have some specialization for the battle tough.

You know my party already, Sazh leader, with the lesbians as backup.

First things first. Use the Sol items to be fully pumped entering the battle.

Recommended setups:

 1. Sazh Commando, Gabrielle Saboteur, Xena Commando.

 2. Sazh Synergist, Gabrielle Saboteur, Xena Saboteur.

 3. All 3 Sentinels. This is a must.

 4. All 3 Medics.

And that’s it. Ravagers ain’t gonna be a big deal IMO because outside of a Early Break, you won’t be staggering this guy because of his guard mode.

Starting the battle, since you have all the buffs sans the Ens, I recommend going straight to Com/Sab/Com. Gabrielle has Poison and Deprotect which IMO are the most important things in this battle. Blitz this fool with Sazh all the time and Xena stomps as well while Gabrielle trolls the guy with status while doing damage and upping chain a little bit.

When he enters Guard Mode, he is invincible so heal and buff, whichever needs more priority in your book. I recommend for buffs, just Haste, Protect, Bravery and maybe Vigilance then the Ens, whichever to your liking. Thing is, buff till he opens the guard mode. Since you will be in Syn/Sab/Sab, the lesbians can give you a little bit more time because they will Dispel this dude inmediately before they start to troll so you can buff an additional set if you are quick enough.

After you are done with the buffing/healing and he opens his guard mode, back to Com/Sab/Com.

When he loses like 40% of life, he will start attacking more quickly and adds his Wind Spinning move which is his big damage dealer as in he can one shot you if you have like 80% of life and he does this attack at random. As soon as you see the message for this attack, change to 3 Sentinels inmediately to nerf the damage considerably. After the attack and while still being launched, change to 3 medics or back to Com/Sab/Com.

And that’s pretty much it.

While he is in guard mode, heal and buff.

While he is attacking, you’ll take damage but the most important thing is for Deprotect and Poison to stick.

When he does his big move, 3 sentinels inmediately and heal or attack depending of your lifeafter.

And another thing, take good care of your main medic whoever it may be Gabrielle or Hope. They are the key member in all of this with Curaja healing big for speed. As soon as you see your main medic in the red for some reason, heal them inmediately.

2 or 3 more members in the red, use Renew. Do not summon since is a waste IMO of 3 TP that could be used better for 2 Renews if need be.

And that’s pretty much it. Gotta fill the whole Crystarium now killing those blue turtles and then continue with my replay.

Hope that helps. Sazh and the lesbians FTMFW!!!:rock::rock::rock::rock:

Three more circle jerk cie’th missions and Vercing and I’ll be done with the marks.

From there I just need to get all treasures and I’ll have my platinum :O!!!

Chocobo

It’s suppose to be a gift for his son. Be his son got taken away before he could give it to him, so it lives in his hair. [/details]

I’m using Antares as well in my first file but IMO that was my mistake.

Sazh is good all around but he excels in 2 roles, Best Commando, Tied at best Synergist with Hope.

Since Sazh shouldn’t be at Ravager at all since the only good use for Ravager for him is Cold Blood, IMO the best way to max him out is to go either with Rigels or Procyons.

Rigels has awesome stats and second best in power. Only bad thing is the Stagger lock but that’s no biggie with the other 2 party members of your choice to stagger the enemy. When enemy is staggered and at high %, Rigels + Blitz becomes R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D, LOL!

Procyons is great as well with the maintenance with means more chances to abuse Blitz. Stagger the enemy, Cold Blood it and then since the % goes down like 20-30% slower, (not sure of accuracy, something like that) means more Blitz fun, just with less power than the Rigels.

Can’t go wrong with any of those 2 IMO. Sazh is about power, abuse it.

BTW, I need an avatar. Something like the Shaft icon with Vanille and Fang looking up all slutty and Sazh with a cigar prefferably and guns unloaded. :smokin:

end of game/long post sorry

Spoiler

Hmm maybe the connecting with the world is because of what you said, or at least it played a role in it. But I would still like to go back and visit some of the earlier places - I’d love to explore them again and maybe find things I didnt the first time. Hell just the fact that I could go back would be fantastic.

I agree with you on Fang and Vanille - it was a nice touch with Ragnarok too. When I watched the end scene the first time it didn’t affect me that much. But then I played some post-game and it sunk in completely - those 2 characters who I have followed throughout my 70 plus hour journey are gone. It did feel like a bummer then but I think that’s telling of how good their characterisation was. If those characters were shit, it wouldn’t have made an impact at all.

And I do hope there is a part 2 for the same reason you stated. I’ve gone on a journey with these characters, highs and lows. Give them the treatment they truthfully deserve please Square Enix. But don’t give me cop out answers - no fucking dreams of l’cie or some crap like that!

Something that I should have included originally (although I did mention in a post some time ago):
The summons were pretty lame. They looked bad-ass and you had to work your butt off getting them, but that’s where the fun ends. As far as damage goes, I’d rather just have 3 coms or 3 ravs. And I can count the number of times I actually used a summon (i.e. not the forced fights a la snow protecting hope or at the beginning of chapter 12) on one hand. Maybe they are better for some of the class A missions, I don’t know. Just didn’t find them useful at all in this game.

Sentinel class is a bit crap too. It’s only useful if the guy/gal using that class isn’t the one needin’ a healin’. Otherwise, you might as well just use 3 medics.

I still prefer FF10 to this one (despite their dreams of the faith crap), but out of the 3d FF games I have played, this for me ranks a respectable joint 2nd place with FF7.

I’m on chapter 9 boss. how do i kill this dude? ;(

WHAT? I didn’t think you could kill Behemoths before they transformed, I always let them transform and try to kill them again

Gonna go try out that fight again.

ahh, thanks for the input. I’ve been running with Fang, Hope and Sahz for a while now (just barely got into chapter 13 last night because I’ve been doing quests farming, and cuz I stopped to beat GoW3 lol). My problem now is that my Fang has been using her stagger lock weapon. Which means I gotta beat missions 64 to unlock the shop where I can get her best strength weapon. Are you using Vanille over Hope? if so, how come? just curious
Did you get to the second part, or stuck on the first form?

First form, just use Lightning as Com or Rav, Hope as Med and Sazh as Rav attack the heads one by one. Each one has it’s own elemental weakness, so the Rav will either exploit it or increase stagger gauge.

Second form, keep a similar formation, but try to buff up with Com Lightning, and Syn for both Hope and Sazh. Switch Hope to Med when you need to.

-When the boss uses his Destructo, switch to Com Light, and Hope Rav and Sazh Rav and keep nailing him.

-If you stagger him, he stops charging and restarts but the damage on the Destructo attack is much weaker. Then, just rinse and repeat.
