is attacus the last fight in the fault warrens? if so he gave me headaches as well. and the way the guide described it, even if random: instant stagger occurs you still can’t put attacus into stagger because you have to push a mob above the stagger limit to stagger them and since 999 is the cap he can’t go over that amount.
instead your going to need your strategy to revolve around 5/6 paradigms including a sen. here is what i rolled with:
com sen rav
rav sen rav
sab sen sab
med sen med
syn sen syn
rav com rav
only take very brief trips into the paradigms that don’t have an attacker, because you never want the chain gauge to reset to 0 (you do less damage if it does). and just keep wailing away on him until he drops. for me his chain gauge was around 500 when he died.
anyways on the subject of trap farming, got my first trap drop last night off a tortoise that i didn’t even notice dropped anything (was looking away). only noticed i got a trap when i checked my inventory… so i went ahead and upgraded the dragoon lance from fang and maxed it then dissasembled it for 3 traps… well now i have fang with a capped ultimate and light on like level 94, but i now have a new problem. i spent all 3.5 mil gil i had between those 3 upgrades… so i’m broke with 200k and now farming tortoise to get platinum for gil, and of course i get another trap drop. so i have 2 traps and no gil to use them lol. starting to think it was a bad idea to dissasemble for 3 traps -_-; but i’m sure i’ll change my mind next time i got on a few hundred turtle spree with no traps.
damn never had a problem with attacus, beat him on my first try, but when i fought him i already maxed out their main roles and only use three paradigms, took me 14 mins but did it, i use the same method on him that i use on wladislaus, hmm maybe i should reintroduce myself since my guys are alot stronger then they were before
everyone has access to all jobs now - do I grind everyone on every job to get max base stats or do I stick to the three I already have (mostly) maxed? also, is there a good spot for grinding coming up? I feel like I’m falling way behind after being maxed out for so long.
I’d stay within your 3 main roles for now. If you check the nodes right away when you get them they start around 4k cp a piece iirc. Not something to really invest in until later on in the game.
no but seriously… its a bitch getting good drops. just got to chapter 12 and i’m trying to upgrade the hell out of the collectors catalogue and fight the soldier douches on the skyway for incentive chips but its taking awhile.
makes killing Attacus so easy.
Then I tried a similar set up to try and 5-star it this time and wow… I went from beating it at around 20 minutes, to beating it in sub 6 minutes immediately after. Lol.
I suggest you beat Attacus yourself before trying out this guy’s method. You’ll understand why when you try this guy’s method out.
my set-up for those wondering.
Spoiler
Fang/Sazh/Lightning w/all three main roles maxed.
Equips: Fang
Max Kain’s Lance
Growth Egg
Aurora Scarf
Power Glove lv1
Power Glove lv5
Sazh
Max Fomalhaut Deluxes (For extra chain building to make up for Fang not being a RAV.)
General’s Belt
Black Belt
Royal Armlet
Diamond Bangle
Lightning
Max Ultima (Strongest weapon I had for her)
Max Warrior’s Wristband
Brawler’s Wristband
Aurora Scarf
Sorceror’s Mark (For extra damage while I build chain)
Paradig-EMs SAB / RAV / RAV
SYN / SEN / COM
COM / SEN / COM
COM / SEN / MED
COM / COM / COM
Strategy for 5-star’ing him is pretty much the same as the link in the video except when Attacus was down to his last 1/4 of his life I buffed everyone with haste and bravera then switched to COM / COM / COM and just wailed until he died. I also just stayed in SAB / RAV / RAV to build up the chain and keep his debuffs fresh. From there, I went to COM / SEN / COM and occasionally switch to COM / SEN / MED so Lightning can heal Sazh since he doesn’t have Mediguard sadly.
I’m fairly certain that it doesn’t work at all. Why would breaking down other things effect the “drops” of another breaking down? Especially since the Guide lists all the “drops” without mentioning that they can change.
^Yeah I agree Light as a Sent is pretty good, same goes with Fang as Ravager.
Anyway I GOT MY FIRST TRAP, BITCHES! Just took me under an hour to get after killing maybe 3-4 Big turtles >=3
So now I just upgrade any of Fang’s weapons then dismantle it and get the goodies right?
I’ve got 1 mil. to waste so no worries.
If I want to get the trophy for having all weapons and acc. I need to upgrade all weapons right? If so I’ll leave that for another new game, I’ll just upgrade 2 weapons per character then go on with the rest of the game <3
Each character has 8 starting weapons. You have to transform one weapon 2 times. The other seven weapons, you only need to transform once. You do this for all the characters. That’ll get you the weapon trophy.
Okay, I give up on trying to beat Neochu normally. (As in no Death spam or Early Break property)
This dude is the cheapest enemy I have seen in any FF game. There is no way to beat this monster without a lucky break.
This dude has the launchers which take a bunch of life which requires a Sentinel to get his attention and not get launched or crippled. Therefore you need a Sentinel at all times.
The dude is fast. Not much time to think between launchers.
The dude is inmune to everything but Imperil and Death.
His Screech attack takes tons of life and debuffs you.
Then there is the Pollen move which is basically a Bad Breath for all members. Requiring a Dispelga tech for 2 points.
He will almost always do Pollen after Screech and most probably you’ll be healing yourself after that move.
He has very high defense and a very high stagger percentage. This means there is little chance to reach that percentage before you are afflicted by 2 Pollen moves.
After 2 Pollen moves, you are practically defenseless as Esuna takes too long to take away all those afflictions which will catch up with you eventually and takes time away of working the Stagger bar.
At 50% life, he summons the little fuckers as if him alone wasn’t bad enough.
The little fuckers Plea can result in instant Death.
There is just no fair way to beat this asshole without luck. Both Death and Early Break are just that, luck. What the hell was Square thinking while designing this monster?
Can someone show me anywhere a video where someone defeated Neochu without Death/Early Break? I’m anxious to see how he did it.
I find the Shao Long Guis considerably harder than the larger Long Guis even though they have 33% less health because you can’t chop down their legs to knock it down. For me, one highwind attack from a buffed Fang on a debuffed and 800%+ staggered leg equals instant death for that leg.
If any of you have reached the point when you can take on these oretoises, just keep in mind that the tortoise paradigm (SEN/SEN/SEN) is absolutely crucial to deal with the Ultima that they like to cast. Also their bay/roar attacks applies daze, so equipping some ribbons or anything else that can resist daze will help alot.
I also just beat gigantaur (mission 54). This guy is one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever faced and I only managed to beat him after 20 or so tries using random: instant stagger, although some further research would have told me that he is susceptible to daze.

"In an unpleasant surprise, Square Enix has taken a series known for its sense of discovery and exoticism and squashed it into the sausage casing of an offline PvP simulator. As detailed and sharp as the art is, its impact is almost entirely lost because it doesn’t exist to be used in any loose way."
this is why the graphics in this game don’t mean ANYTHING. you see pretty images through loooong corridors with no way of interacting with them. no wonder they look so good. they’re just set pieces with no real dimension to them. there are very few NPCs as well. this game has zero character. it’s world is so shallow and empty. the story doesn’t justify it’s world of being so void of human life. it’s like a trip through the haunted house in one of those carts they have set on tracks. they give you a zapper so you pretend like you’re actually doing something, but you’re not really.
if you’re new to final fantasy, you may like how watered-down the gameplay/story is, but if you’re a true ff fan(play at least 5 games. #4 and #6 all the way through), you should be ashame of yourselves! how in the world are you going to behave like sheep and let SE get away with creating shovelware like this? you’re just giving them more reason to keep making pupper-strung games like ff13.
if it takes 20+ plus hours for the game to start feeling worth your time, then something is seriously wrong. that’s pathetic and anyone giving out that idea to “stay with it”. is pathetic. I can see games like suikoden 5 where you’re given the oppotunity to understand the characters at the start by just doing “normal” things instead of jumping into some story without any purpose or motivation to play. ff13 doesn’t do that. it’s just battle-cutscene-battle-cutscene-repeat. this game was design and advertised for noobish gamers(leona lewis?) because they think it’ll allow them to make the most money possible(ala the wii).
alot of the ff mechanics/traditions are thrown in just to fool people they’re playing a real ff game. Chocobos? why do you need a chocobo when the map is almost a straight line? the eidolons(summons) are completely useless and their abilities mean nothing in most battles and take way too long to activate.
people would be better spending their time on a REAL rpg like resonance of fate. this trash is a disgrace to the real rpg players. dumbing down the games are only going to rob new gamers of the experinces us long-time fans remember that made the games so special. gaurantee you they won’t be able to pull this ff13 polarising stunt again with the next game if they want most fans to purchase it.
what has this world come to. this instant-gratification is getting way out of hand and real gaming is taking too many steps backwards.
