Isn’t the numbers and stat building a big part of RPGs? I can’t increase my luck stat for rare drops in Zelda >.>
I know Zelda has been considered an RPG by some magazines and websites (RPGFan, RPGamer) but Nintendo has always just called them “Action/Adventure” games even if they do have some RPG elements. Really, I think it just comes down to the developer’s intention. Castlevania is for all intents and purposes an RPG - it has stat gains, customizable equipment, mana, numbers for player and enemy health - but Konami has never called it anything other than an Action Platformer, whereas a game like E.V.O.: Search for Eden on SNES is the exact same thing but Enix called it a “Side-Scrolling Action RPG”.
If you liked Terranigma, it was actually the third game in a loose association of ARPGs for the SNES along with Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. They were all made by Quintet and don’t really follow a single story but have similar themes and gameplay. I think Terranigma was the best, but the other two are pretty good too, if not a bit more simplistic.
Terranigma was awesome…right up to the ending. What the fuck.
Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia were baller as well.
So I finally learned how to use Zidane’s Lucky Seven in FF9; just use the blasted ability 7 times and on the 7th use it’ll do massive damage. Unfortunately however, you have to do this in only one battle; it’s not accumulative
Wow, i kinda feel stupid for never figuring that out. So much for multiple 90 hour play thrus.
Nah don’t be, the Japanese name of the attack is ‘Richu Sebun’; Reach Seven. Damn you evil translators of FF9 >=3
Also it seems that it is accumulative-

just saw the GS exclusive Dissidia bundle up for pre-order. Man, i’m glad i waited to upgrade my psp. Anyone know how much Fat PSPs are going in for trade?
FF9 could really go with a LONG manga series detailing its events along with what happens to the other characters.
I’m in Disc 2 ATM, and damn…Marcus within 30-60 minutes manages to GTFO of Alexandria, climb down all the way to lower ground, fight his way through a petrified forest, revives his brother, runs all the way back outside the forest, climbs the high mountains, makes it through the city and into the dungeon to help out Zidane and co.
Blank and Marcus can use teh SPEED FORCE!!!
ESRB shows that FF VII has been rated (as a PS One classic for PSN).
Also, FFIV: The After Years is being released on WiiWare today.
Damn… I’m feeling nostalgic.
…
Dusts off PS and boots it up!
Dude I read that Manga series with the quickness. It would deffenitly have to go into what other people where doing though. Really expand the story. That would be sweet. Who would you want to write it?
Ooof that’s a tough one, thing is most Mangas based on games seem like…fanfics; the author would write the story in a way he likes while trying to stay close to a game’s elements.
I won’t lie though, I wish I could write it meself =/
Also take note that Just about 99% of the Alexandrian army is females, and that the higher ranked ones where leg guards (watch the ATEs in Disc 2 when Lindblum gets conquered) O_o
I’m surprised there aren’t much orgy h-doujins about it thought :V
Anyway, anyone getting the PSN FF7 release? I think if it sells well S-E will have FF8 for PSN (which will lead to FF9 on PSN?).
IX is more entertaining when Zidane is named Crippin. Right when I first popped the game in and saw him jump down the ladder, all I could think was “Crippin”.
I’ll be getting VII. Hope it has the W-Item glitch still.
I think I’m getting Advent tomorrow too. I’m in CONSTANT debate about it with myself.
Yea I dunno who I’d want to write it either. Arakawa pops into mind as she’s a really good witer and does a great job juggling large casts. I also like her pacing.
Not FF based, but I liked what I read on the Suikoden 3 manga.
Artwork was great.
FF 9 is my favorite FF game ever, I just liked everything about it outside of the Tea Kettle Frog Thing.
I am glad they got rid of that horrid mini WoW system for the next FF game.
Tea Kettle Frog?
Quina?
IX was probably my favorite too, but I’m currently playing it. Best Chocobo system for sure.
That would be it, I didn’t like the minigames either to be honest. Hated Chocobo hot and cold and the card game even though I always won.
Yeah Quina was… wierd.
S/He entertained me, but I would never put him/her in my party. Fugly ass tribe.
As for mini’s… hated card game but loved Choco Hot/Cold. I like to train/collect/steal in RPG’s though, so a mini game resulting in dope gear was right up my alley.
Aloha de Chocobo…
